Can anyone solve the equation on the check?

Ghoulish Delight 02-10-2008 11:42 AM

I believe the answer is 1.002 (e^i pi = -1, and the solution to the series is 2).

Lest anyone think otherwise, it is not true.

Hate to out geek you but I think the answer is 0.002 not 1.002.

e^iπ does equal -1 but the answer to the series is 1 not 2. It would be 2 if the lower limit was 0 (series starts with 1/2^0 = 1) but the lower limit is 1 (series starts with 1/2^1 = 1/2).

So it is a check that, if the bank took the effort to calculate would be rejected for being a fractional cent.

Ghoulish Delight 02-13-2008 11:35 AM

Series were always my weak point.
