Napa Rose - not so bad

1 Attachment(s)
I am only posting this because the last few things I've read and/or discussed about Napa Rose have been less than stellar if not down right disappointing.

Susan and I took a spontaneous trip there for dinner last night. No regular seating was available, but we were able to snag one of the FCFS overflow tables in the bar (if it had a tablecloth on it, you could order full dinner: no tablecloth meant appetizers and desert only).

We enjoyed a Beach Rock appetizer for two (a very fun appetizer), Susan had Salmon and I had a steak, Susan had donuts and hot chocolate (which really must have been a melted chocolate bar - freakin' awesome!!!) and I had flowerless cake, double chocolate chunk ice cream with chocolate sauce (and a cup of coffee). And we shared a bottle of Aia Cabernet.

All were phenomenal! And the service was good especially considering we were in the bar. (And the waitress was really cute!)

So, Napa Rose was worth it.

Good to hear! Although I am still on the fence about making a return engagement, I should be fair and give them another shot, that chocolate looks amazing.

innerSpaceman 02-17-2008 01:29 PM

that i never made it there during the spongecake dessert era means i'll likely never bother to have the pleasure.

blueerica 02-17-2008 01:41 PM

Sounds like they were taking a little Spanish influence with the 'donuts and hot chocolate.' In Spain, they serve churros, but not like the kind you get at state fairs and in the park, but basically simple donuts with sugar over it. The 'hot chocolate' is literally that, hot chocolate, not much added to it. Thick, it is perfect for dipping and sipping, and was one of my favorite memories from España...

According to our waitress, it should be making a return engagement. Though she could not give a time frame, it IS one of the menu favorites and they are changing out the menu every 6-9 months.

There is still hope!

Snowflake - I always seem to have good luck at Napa Rose - you should come with us next time. ;)

wendybeth 02-17-2008 03:12 PM

We've never eaten there- maybe when we come down in April we can have a Napa swanking? We'll make Kevy pay if it sucks.:D

innerSpaceman 02-17-2008 04:39 PM

Let's make Kevy pay anyway. :D

Oh, BTW, I will be flying down for the weekend when you're in town WB. Be warned, I'm stalking you & Tori! ;)

wendybeth 02-17-2008 05:46 PM

I know, Snow- that's why I suggested this! A Stalking, then a Swanking.:D

Works for me, and dinner on Kevy!

BDBopper 02-17-2008 07:53 PM

I've heard nothing but good things about Napa Rose and many have told me that it is a must do. My question is what are the prices like? Is it really expensive?

I'd love to Pru! When are you going to be at DL next?

It definitely is not the least expensive place to eat at the park. Here is a sample menu (though not the current one).

Last night's check including tip (dinner described above) was:

Spoiler:
$220

That's not likely to happen, as I'll be there a few weeks after WB. It'll be the week that everyone else is suddenly incredibly busy washing their ferrets.

Thanks KB. That's definitely not in my budget...unless I suddenly win the lottery or I come up with more money than I think I will by September.

Which reminds me, I haven't seen my ferret since the last time scaeagles visited. Coincidence? I think not.

Then I'm afraid you will have to come up with an alternate excuse. Perhaps your ham needs basting?

Kevy Baby 02-18-2008 04:14 PM

With Special Sauce®?

I Heart Disneyland 03-04-2008 09:43 PM

I've heard rave reviews about Napa Rose, so, I need to try it soon. I will be there in a few weeks. (WHEEEEEEEEE! )

The place that TOTALLY disappointed us in December was Hook's Pointe. I will never go there again. The food was horrible. Maybe we caught it on a bad night, I don't know.

Mousey Girl 03-04-2008 11:22 PM

I enjoyed Hook's Point, but I was more impressed with Steak House 55. We did both during the same trip. For the overall value I would recommend SH55 over HP.

I am also thinking part of the enjoyment of SH55 was the company.

I may have to try Steak House 55 as I've heard good reviews of it as well. Thanks for the comments. I think we may have hit Hook's on a bad night or something. :(

GusGus and I enjoy Hook's Pointe. It is our go-to spot when everything else has a 3 hour wait.

I have yet to hit SH55. Must do it sometime soon.

Well until they got rid of my favorite dish:(

Morrigoon 03-05-2008 01:31 PM

I've liked Hook's Pointe. Funny that that place still seems "new" to me, when it's been there 10 years.

BD: Napa ran me about $80/pp and that's with nobody ordering alcohol. But for your trip, you can spend a lot less getting pommes frites at Cafe Orleans and be just as pleased. (pommes frites just means french fries, but CO serves them up as seasoned garlic fries with dipping sauce - amazing!)

I beg to differ. I promise you that no fancy French fry will come close the steak I had at NR. Also, dining is not just about the food - the experience weighs in just as much for me.

And if it is value one is looking for, nowhere on the property is a good value (in strictly economic terms). You want cheap food, ya gotta leave the property.

Thank you for the tip. :) I will definitely keep that in mind...they sound scrumptious...better than regular french fries!

westy 03-08-2008 03:56 PM

have never tried the restaurant.. WIll have to do that the next time we are at DL

CoasterMatt 03-08-2008 04:06 PM

You can get far better pomme frites at Crepe Cafe for $2.95

CoasterMatt 03-08-2008 04:07 PM

The pomme frites from Cafe Orleans do vomit well, though- they stayed intact enough not to splash out of the flume at Small World.

Not Afraid 03-08-2008 08:34 PM

The truffle fries at Uva Bar are my favorite.

wolfy999 03-08-2008 10:33 PM

Truffle fries? Do elaborate please.

Not Afraid 03-08-2008 10:35 PM

Yummy fries with truffle oil and cheese on them. Nothing better.

Sounds heavenly. At Uva Bar....that's in DTD, correct? May have to try those!

wolfy999 03-09-2008 09:56 PM

Gotta have some of those...

Kevy Baby 03-10-2008 10:40 AM

I'm partial to the Dulce de Leche shake at the Haagan Daz store.
