You have got to be kidding: A treadmill for your DOG???

A saw a headline pop up on my news feed desktop gadget that read, "Fido and Fluffy can be techie, too." Naturally it caught my attention.

But the first item that comes up is a freakin' treadmill for dogs!

Are people really that lazy?!?

But there are some interesting toys discussed:
  • The Mouse in the House cat toy ($63) is one of those pieces of entertainment that could potentially yield hours of activity. By learning to press a button, the cat can release an automated mouse that runs on a small track through a dollhouse-sized living room and kitchen.
    PetGadgets.com
The motorized Mouse in the House cat toy ($63) lets cats play and exercise when they're alone in an apartment or house.
  • Dogs can play with the canvas Talking Bone ($21) — owners record their voices into the device — as well as a retractable ball-thrower like the Ball Blaster ($20), or lit-up Frisbees.

My cats would prefer the box the Mouse in the House toy came in. But only if someone shows great interest in it.

Show people use treadmills for dog walking if they live in places with difficult weather. But, why is it lazy for a dog and not for a person?

I've seen people walk dogs riding in cars, on bikes, and on skate boards. If you ask me they nneded the walk as well. Yes, people are lazy.

Me, I don't even walk my dog. I'll toss a toy to the other side of the yard so he runs.

Speaking as the official LoT-Treadmill representative I can only say: Bad form! Bad form indeed!

After your dog finishes his workout on the treadmill, he can play a game of fetch

Using a dog treadmill isn't lazy for the dog it is lazy for the person not willing to actually walk with a dog. A person using a treadmill themself is different.

But walking is the big reason why I will probably never own a dog. Since we no longer live in a placetime where it is ok to just open the front door and let the dog run on its own for a while (and I'm unlikely to live in one of the places where that is ok) and I really don't want to have to deal with walking them.

What a ruff life.

Hey, we walk our dog a lot. But he could use more exercise than that. The treadmill is not just for lazy pet owners. If it's a supplement, it's for responsible pet owners.

And yeah, how come it's ok for humans to get their exercise in such a techno-convenient way, but not animals? Stupid double standard there.

At least dogs don't have computers on their's ;)

Gemini Cricket 03-20-2008 10:24 AM

The Dog Whisperer used a treadmill on a dog that needed exercise.

RStar 03-20-2008 10:32 AM

I walk about 5-6 miles a day at my job. The last thing I want to do is walk when I get home.

But using a treadmill is much better than no excersise at all. How about a video screen so the dog can see a cat, another dog, or a toy to chase? I want a VR dog treadmill! :D

innerSpaceman 03-20-2008 10:37 AM

A loop of the mailman arriving would work for my dog.

Besides, my dog-on-a-treadmill philosophy is 'If it's good enough for Astro, it's good enough for Pluto.'
