Great Lyrics Quiz

I received a link to this terrific lyrics quiz today.

Who knew that guessing a song would be so hard if you were given all the lyrics? They give you all the lyrics in alphabetical order, with no repeated words. Some are easier than others, depending on how unique the song's words are.

I got 23 out of 50; how did you do?

wendybeth 03-24-2008 11:35 AM

I started this, but realized I didn't have quite enough caffeine in my system when I missed the U2 song. I'll be back in a few cups.:coffee:

Ghoulish Delight 03-24-2008 11:41 AM

Made even harder if you're like me and are generally terrible with lyrics to begin with.

I can get some of the ones with stand-out words ("hedgerow" "colitas"), but generally suck.

innerSpaceman 03-24-2008 11:52 AM

I quit after 8 or so, when I was running 50/50.

Too frustrating for me. But it illuminated another facet of my brain. While I can reliably remember lyrics I've sung perhaps 3 times, as long as it's any time within the last 30 years .... I cannot reliably put them all together if they are re-arranged alphabetically.

Too bad it's not that that weird phenomena where, as long as there are correct consonents, you don't need the proper vowels to read words.

flippyshark 03-24-2008 12:10 PM

wendybeth 03-24-2008 12:12 PM

Well, I suck- only got 20. At least I knew all of the songs once identified.

I got 14, but definitely could not identify most of the songs. Sorry :-\ (I mean, I knew of the artists and stuff as in I'd heard the name before, but not familiar with the song)

LSPoorEeyorick 03-24-2008 12:22 PM

The Pop Candy blogger (who's extremely music-knowledgeable) said it was the hardest lyrics quiz she'd ever taken, and that she hardly got any right. I think 20 right is pretty great, wb...

Snowflake 03-24-2008 12:25 PM

I got the first one! :snap:

SzczerbiakManiac 03-24-2008 12:51 PM

Goose Egg

Now if ya wanna give me a similarly configured quiz with showtune lyrics, I may stand a chance.

Ghoulish Delight 03-24-2008 01:14 PM

I didn't bother counting, but I probably get about 15 or so.

Now I've got several songs stuck in my head that I really wish weren't.

What... are you gay or something?

SzczerbiakManiac 03-24-2008 01:40 PM

Does no one read my warnings!?! Why do I bother...?
<throws hands up in exasperation>

;)

Oooh! I know what it is!

(I won't spoil it for anyone else, but it's certainly one of the best showtunes ever!)

Did anyone get my (inane but easy) entry earlier in this thread?

Maybe if you'd peppered with some Disney characters...

Not Afraid 03-24-2008 03:02 PM

I'm cruising along with the quiz, doing pretty good, but switching back and forth between LoT and the quiz. Now, I would like to ask, HOW IN THE HELL AM I GOING TO FINISH THE QUIZ WITH THE SONG FLIPPYSHARK POSTED STUCK IN MY HEAD????

flippyshark 03-24-2008 03:04 PM

 Sorry about that, NA.

Not Afraid 03-24-2008 03:09 PM

It's ok. I think I'll try and to back to singing that song about moving in a particular direction.

Not Afraid 03-24-2008 03:16 PM

LOL! #9 is hard! ;)

innerSpaceman 03-24-2008 03:19 PM

But at least LSPE's is easy!

Not Afraid 03-24-2008 03:30 PM

Yes, but it wouldn't have been easy about 6 or 8 months ago.

I'm at #16. i've missed one so far, but this is doing two things to me.

1. It's making me very sleepy
2. It is causing me to sing Loving, Touching and Squeezing by Journey. WTF?

I was going to alphabetize the lyrics to the Dead Kennedys' "I Like Short Songs" until I realized that the lyrics are already in alphabetical order, and are included in their entirety within the title of the song.

I was going to post the lyrics to "Tequila"

Kevy Baby 03-24-2008 06:53 PM

Okay, I finally had the chance to at least get started. 5 out of 10 so far.

€uroMeinke 03-24-2008 06:56 PM

I knew I would suck at this (most of the time making up my own lyrics to popular songs) but I checked it out anyway and got the first one....

And that about sums it up

Prudence 03-24-2008 07:53 PM

I got 39. Although, in fairness, I guessed on two. Educated guesses, to be sure, but I was only really certain about 37.

Yes, yet another completely useless talent to add to my list.

(Frankly, I'm far more embarrassed about some of the ones I did get than those I didn't get.)

Not Afraid 03-24-2008 10:37 PM

Yam! Bam! mon chat Splash
Git sur mon lit a bouffe
sa langue en buvant tout mon whisky
quant a moi peu dormi, vide, brime
J'ai du dormir dans la gouttiere
Ou j'ai eu un flash *
Oooo-ooo-ooo-ooo!
En quatre couleurs *"

Allez hop! un matin
Une louloute est venue chez-moi
Poupee de cellophane, cheveux chinois
un sparadrap, une gueule de bois
a bu ma biere dans un grand verre en caoutchouc
Oooo-ooo-ooo-ooo!
Comme un indien dans son igloo

Ca plane pour moi ca plane pour moi
Ca plane pour moi moi moi moi moi
Ca plane pour moi
Oooo-ooo-ooo-ooo!
Ca plane pour moi

Allez hop! la nana quel panard!
Quelle vibration!
de s'envoyer sur le paillasson
Limee, ruinee, videe, comblee
You are the King of the divan!
Qu'elle me dit en passant
Oooo-ooo-ooo-ooo!
I am the King of the divan

Ca plane pour moi ca plane pour moi
Ca plane pour moi moi moi moi moi
Ca plane pour moi
Oooo-ooo-ooo-ooo!
Ca plane pour moi

Allez hop! t'occupe t'inquiete

It's not today
Quel le ciel me tombera sur la tete
et que la colle me manquera ****
Oooo-ooo-ooo-ooo!

Oooo-ooo-ooo-ooo!
Ca plane pour moi
Ca plane pour moi ca plane pour moi
Ca plane pour moi moi moi moi moi

flippyshark 03-24-2008 11:05 PM

Oh my. Payback time from the lashbear and NA. Ca plane pour moi is just about as brain-wormy and catchy as the tune I referenced earlier. (Has anyone heard anything else from Plastic Bertrand apart from this tune?)

Not Afraid 03-25-2008 09:58 AM

I OWN the Plastic Bertrand album that contains said tune. However, it is on vinyl and I haven't heard it in ages and no other song comes to mind. Maybe it's because I can't stop singing Ca Plane Pour Moi. :(

And had the hugest crush on Steve Perry, back in the day.

Uh, we also have it on CD, and ripped as MP3s - I like me some Franco-punk
