JUST felt an earthquake
About 30 seconds ago. Probably far away, felt 2 distinct movements, the classic jolt, followed by a slight roll a few seconds later. Barely anything here (and we're on the second story), but definitely noticeable.
|
Stop that nonsense right now. No earthquakes until after our visit.
|
Nothing yet on USGS...
|
The square just showed up on CalTech's site with no details. Looks like between here and SD (maybe a little closer to here), along the coast, magnitude between 3 and 4.
ETA: Okay, my location was off (3 mi. ENE of Newport). Magnitude 3.1 |
I ate a chilicheeseburger for dinner...
|
A minor earthquake occurred at 9:28:49 PM (PDT) on Wednesday, March 26, 2008.
The magnitude 3.1 event occurred 3 km (2 miles) NE of Newport Beach, CA. The hypocentral depth is 8 km ( 5 miles). |
If it's less than a 5, I can't feel it.
|
felt nada this far south.
|
Oh my gosh! They say animals can tell moments before an earthquake is going to occur, so, that makes perfect sense because at just before 9:27 (approx, one minute before the earthquake) my dog planted himself under the doorway. He could have at least warned me.
|
Felt it. Big bump followed by barely perceptible shakey shakey.
|
Pffft... If I didn't feel it, it doesn't count. ;)
|
Nothing felt in Long Beach. But, I was on the 3rd floor of the Kress building.

Pfft. Didn't feel it.
Then again I was in an arena that hit over 110db at about that time. |

Call me when you get a real earthquake. |
Wow. I don't know what I'd do in an eathquake. I've never felt one. I'd probably freak or something.
|
the first one is the best, but unfortunately you rarely realize what it is until people start asking 'did you feel that?'

Didn't feel that one - we were driving home from dinner at Azteca at the time. Otherwise, I more than likely would have noticed.

I feel the sky tumbling down, tumbling down I feel my heart start to trembling Whenever you're around |
There was a Mother and daughter pair at the salon who'd just moved here from Wisconsin. The mom was all excited about feeling her first quake. The teen (early 20's?) daughter was a little freaked out. Over what? That was a nothing quake - wait till they feel a REAL one!
|
One of my sisters, who has lived in Southern California all her life freaks out at the slightest temblor.

You might be surprised. I thought I would, too, but it was fine. My first was the 1994 Northridge one. Big surprise. I had a bit of an issue for a bit after, sleeping mostly, but it's fine now. I've felt them all over by now, and it's no big deal. Most of them are minor. I've even had them hit at night: I wake up, oh, it was an earthquake, and go back to sleep. Especially if the dogs aren't up making noise. |
Here's what a true earthquake veteran does for middle of the night earthquakes:
Wakes up Realizes it's an earthquake Thinks - Crap it's an earthquake [still in bed] a few seconds later - I wonder if I should get out of bed [still in bed] a few seconds later - seems to be getting stronger a few seconds later - maybe I should get out of bed [still in bed] a second later - either decides it's getting stronger and they're going to get in the door way or decides it's slowing down and lays there after it's over - crap, it's 3am. Work is gonna suck tomorrow. Hell, I'm up. Let's go see who else is online and how bad it was. And make sure I don't smell gas. |
We haven't had a good-sized shaker in SoCal in almost 10 years. We're overdue.
|
stop that! stop that right now!
*plugs his ears* I cant hear you! la la la laaaa |
