LA Modernism Show May 2-4

In Santa Monica

Bill & I have been going for several years. We're planning on going this year on Sunday, May 4th. Anyone else want to join us for a swanking?

Morrigoon 04-10-2008 07:15 PM

Neat. Not sure I can get away for a swanking, but have fun!

Not Afraid 04-10-2008 07:43 PM

We're in!

Ghoulish Delight 04-10-2008 10:42 PM

hmmmmm

innerSpaceman 04-10-2008 11:18 PM

Oh, I'm so joining this swanking.

The photos from last year's event have me drooling.

Funny, though ... for the most part ... modernism isn't so modern anymore. But i still LOVE the style.

Oh, hell .... what to wear???

€uroMeinke 04-10-2008 11:24 PM

Don't confuse modern with contemporary or post modern

innerSpaceman 04-10-2008 11:26 PM

Well, from the look of the photos, there was quite a bit of post-modern mixed in with the modern.

I thrill to both, so all's good.

Maybe I'll dress contemporarily to bridge the gap. :iSm:

€uroMeinke 04-10-2008 11:33 PM

Go Futurist

Ghoulish Delight 04-11-2008 07:28 AM

If we go (likely), it'll be on Sunday the 4th. Remember, this is also the weekend y'all were planning on seeing Little Mermaid.

innerSpaceman 04-11-2008 08:23 AM

Ooooh, thank you. I knew there was something about that date. But I'm always double-booked so it doesn't bother me so much.

I'm definitely doing Little Mermaid. Was that supposed to be Saturday or Sunday? Guess I'll dredge the thread.

JWBear 04-26-2008 11:43 AM

*Bump*

Anyone else planning on going? So far, it looks like NA, €, My partner & me.

innerSpaceman 04-27-2008 01:09 PM

What about your new avatar man? Will he be there?

Are we talking Saturday or Sunday? I wanna go, but have to plan my weekend around it (I wanna take my ex to Disneyland the other day, since Wendybeth was kind enough to give me her unused 5-day passport remant ... but it expires on the 7th, so we have to go this weekend. Wow, she hasn't been in years!)

JWBear 04-27-2008 03:48 PM

Sunday the 4th.

I think it's a bit far for Olof to come, but I certainly wouldn't complain. ;)

innerSpaceman 04-27-2008 07:02 PM

Gotcha. Sunday.

Ok, gonna try to switch Disneyland to Saturday, with the hook that we can stay till closing 'cause it's not a school night.

So ... Olof or not (Le Grande Sigh), looks like I'm in.

Not Afraid 04-30-2008 08:38 PM

ok, we're going to shoot to be there at 1;00 on sunday.

innerSpaceman 04-30-2008 08:55 PM

One o'clock then. Santa Monica Civic. Meet outside??

Has Olof responded yet?

Ghoulish Delight 04-30-2008 10:39 PM

Bah, can't make it. Stupid birthdays. Oh, wait, nevermind.

'Fraid not.

innerSpaceman 05-01-2008 11:25 AM

So, what's the plan, then? Cellphones?

I don't have Olof's number.

JWBear 05-01-2008 11:42 AM

Do you think that if I had Olof's number, that I'd give it to you?

innerSpaceman 05-04-2008 09:01 AM

So ... plan???

JWBear 05-04-2008 09:07 AM

We're planning on getting there at 1:00, viewing swanky things, then dinner at Monsoon Cafe.

Not Afraid 05-04-2008 10:10 AM

Them's the plans. I looks like Chris is available to join us as well.

innerSpaceman 05-04-2008 10:10 AM

ok, 1 o'clock. Cell phones at the ready. Hold them high to charge them!

Cadaverous Pallor 05-04-2008 05:38 PM

Have fun guys! Bummer we had to miss this one.

Not Afraid 05-04-2008 08:19 PM

Great show! Lots and lots of eye candy followed by a wonderful dinner and a visit by Boss Radio and a quick shopping excursion on 3rd st. Great day!

Boss Radio 05-04-2008 10:45 PM

Wonderful to see you all...
Thanks for letting me crash the party!

innerSpaceman 05-04-2008 11:46 PM

Too bad I forgot my three hundred thousand dollars in my other pants.

Otherwise, what a great modernism show and sale.

About three quarters of the way through, I hit aesthetic overload. So many stunningly beautiful things. Ugh, a nice quanity of good-looking gay men didn't help either. And rich, too ... unless they were posseurs like us.

As I said right after the show ... I've always wanted to be fabulously wealthy - - and now I know why.

JWBear 05-05-2008 10:32 AM

It was maaaahhvelous, darling. Simply mahvelous.

What IsM said is true; lots of pretty things to see... And there was furniture and art too!

Not Afraid 05-05-2008 11:02 AM

I do think we have decorated the entire LoT commune though. Now all we need is a few million dollars.

innerSpaceman 05-05-2008 11:43 AM

Plus the funds to refloat a beached Ocean Liner somwhere along the coasts of India.

Sadly, it would be far cheaper to build a new ship.

innerSpaceman 05-05-2008 01:12 PM

Ooooh, to our own specifications. Right now, I want the floating version of Tony Stark's Malibu swank pad, as featured in IronMan.

JWBear 05-05-2008 03:22 PM

So, what would the Swankitania look like...

Hmmmm.... I have next week off, and it looks like we're not going out of town as planned....

Hmmmmmm....................

€uroMeinke 05-05-2008 08:26 PM

I think it time to create the Center for Rational Hedonism think tank - we'll be a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to exploring ways to improving the pursuit of happiness - we of course will be the first test subjects...
