So who's your final four?
I've got OK St beating Illinois in the Midwest.
I've got Wake Forest beating Georgia Tech in the West. I've got UNC beating Kansas in the East. I've got Kentucky beating Duke in the South. OK St over Wake, UNC over Kentucky, UNC winning it all. So who you got? |
I'm still working on mine.
Here's my list of potential Final Four teams. Obviously, I have some paring down to do. Duke NC Wake Syracuse Gonzaga Illinois OK St Georgia Tech UConn Louisville |
I'm distressed by your lack of love for Washington.
Yay UW! Only our football team is corrupt! |
Go Zags!!!!
|
Groucho
Harpo Chico Zeppo |
Damn, I thought you were talking about American Idol.
:( |
Hmmm...I'm still trying to decide. But Duke definitely gets a spot in my final four.
I'm heading up to Lake Tahoe today...does anyone want me to place any bets? :) |
Ok, I finally finished filling out my bracket.
Final Four: Illinois Gonzaga (I'm second guessing myself on that one, but I think I'll stick with it, I had them beating Georgia Tech the previous round) North Carolina Syracuse |
I cam close to going with the 'Cuse, but Duke has Redick, and if you are not in his face the moment he touches the ball he will kill you with the three. Most incredible shooter I have ever seen. The 2-3 zone is susceptable to the three, and with how well Duke screens the zone, I think they win it.
|
Okay......finally have mine done at the buzzer. I've been avoiding all contact/talk of March Madness until I could sit down and concentrate all by myself, with no husband over the shoulder. I always beat him.....always. For eleven years. But he always thinks he can "help" me. Dork.
I have..... Illinois over OK State Wake over Louisville UNC over Kansas Duke over Kentucky UNC over Illinois in the final MickeyD....Gonzaga in the Finals? What are you, some kind of Catholic? ;) My husband has a similar looking thing going, but he has Georgia Tech going to the Final Four, then Illinois beating UNC in the F2. Tomorrow, I need....... Illinois Texas Alabama Boston LSU Arizona (grumblegrumble) Washington Pitt Texas Tech Gonzaga West VA Wake UTAH OK Cincinnatti Kentucky The only one I'm very nervous about is Pitt/Pacific....it would put my bracket in really good shape if Pitt won. Almost everyone else in our pool has Pacific going for an additional few games...... |
Claire's my new friend for picking Texas Tech! (ok..you were allready my friend...but I love you more now!!!)
I'm totally ticked that they are playing here in Tucson...and tickets have been sold out for months! Even if I could get tickets..they are $120 a piece...times 4...OUCH!!!! I need to make a bracket...but I suck at picking...I'm to loyal to my teams to watch anyone else! But it could be fun....maybe I'll just scam off of Claire and go with her picks? ;) :p |

Oklahoma St. over Illinois
Louisville over Gonzaga UCONN over Florida (yes, Florida will beat North Carolina) Duke over Kentucky OK St. over Louisville UCONN over Duke OK St. over UCONN for the championship I came close to picking Syracuse over Duke (and in fact I did pick the 'Cuse in one of the pools I'm in). I'm in 6 pools so there is some variation with my Final Four picks. The one constant I have is that Kansas won't make the Final Four. |
I have no computer at home so I'm posting from work (where I should be drawing. Drawing plans to build houses over some wetlands in Vancouver  ) and I needed to at least get my final four out there.
Illinois Louisville North Carolina Syracuse I went pretty conservative this year because I've been burned by wild hair picks in the past. |
Quote:
Either way, my pick too Claire. |
I like to live in the land of wishful thinking. In that land, the final four are:
(Bow down to) Washington (Go Cyclones!) Iowa State U of IA and Penn |
Crappity crap crap crap.
|
Quote:
Course, I'll feel better about it when I'm right, but whatever. LOL about Gonzaga Claire! But now I'm wishing I could go back and pick an all Catholic final four.... Damn! Austin region foiled my plan! |
Quote:
Some picker you are? geesh...day one and allready I'm losing? :p ;) I was feeling your pain watching that Alabama game..but silently rooting for the underdog...like I always do...unless my team is playing the underdog...then they can just cry all the way to the bus! Ok Claire..here's happy thoughts that Pitt can pull off the miracle...28 seconds...6 points..ummmm... |
Quote:
|
Sorry, I'm laughing that anyone picked Pitt over Pacific. :p
So far I'm only screwed by Bama....damn UW-Milwaukee! |
Quote:
Okay...... Illinois Texas Alabama--crap Boston LSU Arizona (grumblegrumble) Washington Pitt --CRAP!!!!!!!!! Texas Tech Gonzaga West VA Wake UTAH OK--OK Cincinnatti Kentucky--OK How would you like to be a Fairleigh whatever fan today? :D |

It would be a great help to me if Iowa would pull their heads out of their asses.....right NOW! |
And those uniforms. What an ugly ass color.

I'm totally sucked into this madness...I'm usually just a follow my team kinda gal...will probably kick it in when it gets to the final four...but I've found myself watching all day...well except for the 2 hours I missed during nap time!
Claire...our bracket isn't looking so hot! |
Damn Iowa! I was really counting on them! I had so much faith in them that they've screwed me for the next two rounds.
And Go Utah! |
Illinois
Texas Alabama--crap Boston--OK LSU Arizona (grumblegrumble) Washington--OK Pitt --CRAP!!!!!!!!! Texas Tech Gonzaga West VA Wake UTAH--OK, barely..... OK--OK Cincinnatti--OK Kentucky--OK |
Ok, here's how I'm doing so far today too.
Illinois Nevada 'bama -damn you UW-Milwaukee, I'm boycotting your damn cheese BC -check LSU Arizona Washington -check Pacific -check, sleeper, mark my words UCLA Gonzaga West VA Wake Forest Utah -check OK -check Iowa -fvck me gently with a chainsaw, Veronica Kentucky -check |
Sigh.
I had Pitt upsetting WA in the next round. WA looked so bad I would suspect that Pacific could beat them. I hope so. Gotta give Pacific their props - their overall strength of schedule was so low I didn't think they could hang with the Big East. I also had Alabama beating Boston College in the next round. Not looking good. I picked UTEP. They almost pulled it off, dang it. Big gack turning the ball over down two with 15 seconds left. Giant hairball on the floor!!!!!!!!!!! Sigh. |
Yeah, my husband likes Pacific. I knee-jerkedly dislike anything West Coastish. (see: Gonzaga last year)

They don't have final 4's in Le Tour.
I don't even know what the F you're talking about here, but I had an answer didn't I. It must be good for something............. |
Dangit, I wanted to see the Wake game......I don't give a rip about Texas and Nevada!
|
You're killing me, Gonzaga!
|
Ugh, all four games are WAY TOO CLOSE!!!
|
Illinois
Texas--double crap Alabama--crap Boston--OK LSU Arizona (grumblegrumble)--OK Washington--OK Pitt --CRAP!!!!!!!!! Texas Tech Gonzaga--OK, barely West VA Wake--OK UTAH--OK, barely..... OK--OK Cincinnatti--OK Kentucky--OK Four more games tonight.........my brackets are all messed up! Ack! Bama and Pitt, I had winning one more game beyond today. Ugh. Oh well. Both were foolish choices. |
Allright...Texas lost! Whoo hoo!
Sorry Claire...Texas is the enemy...even if they are on "our" bracket! |
FDU keeping it interesting with Illinois! I have illinois, of course, as I'm sure every sane person does, but I would love to see FDU pull it off. The huge upset is what makes the tourney great. Down only 1 at the half.
|

Today: NC State (grumblegrumble, I hate NC State) Florida Iowa State OK State Connecticut Villanova North Carolina (Go Tar Heels!!) S. Illinois Syracuse Louisville Wisconsin Duke Michigan State (sorry, ODU) Georgia Tech Kansas Stanford I don't have any surprise picks today.....the second round was where I changed it up a bit and where I'll lose points big-time. Oh well...... |
Missed 3 games yesterday. 'Bama, LSU and Pitt let me down but I didn't lose any teams in the next round yet. Whew.
On to day 2. |
GOD, I hate NC State!!!
 Sheesh, I throw them a bone and they screw me. Every flipping time! I hate them! Duke's puke Wake's fake But the team I hate Is NC State!!! Bah! Now if they manage to pull their heads out and win this game, I take back the Bah! But that's all. |
Hah! I have Charlotte -- in all my pools.
Going against the ACC is easy money sometimes. Just wait 'till UNC lays an egg (No, not today, but soon.). |
I turned on the game and it was 18-4 Charlotte! (I love working from a home office where I can position my office chair just where I need to to see the TV.) Yikes!
Need some more upsets today - not for my pool, but for fun. And Claire, it's always U of Az that screws me. |
It's Kansas that usually screws me. That's why I said the hell with it this year and picked them to not even make the Sweet 16.
So watch 'em win it all. |
Wake and NC State. Always mess with me.
I try not to get emotional in my picks.....they play some TOUGH teams in their regular seasons, and I am pre-programmed to hate them (my blood runs Carolina Blue), so I try not to let that hatred affect my brackets. I try to use my brain. BUT damn. There's only so much I can take. My hatred grows exponentially. |
Quote:
Now Claire...tell us how you really feel? :p What's up with today's games...no suprises...all predictable.... Come on...I want the underdog to win! |
Is Iowa State still winning their game? Oh pretty please?
|

Iowa St is up by 10 with 12 to play. I picked Iowa St because they pursued one of the HS players I have coached, who opted for the Air Force Academy instead.
|
Sing with me -
NC State's now up by three Do-dah, do-dah How I love the ACC Oh, do-dah day They got big mo heading down the stretch! Go Wolfpack! |
The scary game for me right now is OK St. I have them in the championship game and they turn the ball over more than they shoot. Only up by 6 mid second half.
I love a good upset, but it would sure screw my pool. |
Stupid dregs of the ACC.
Of course, in memory of the great Jimmy V, a small part of me is always happy when NC State wins a tourney game. A damn small part of me, but still. |
Well whadda you know? NC State pulled their heads out. I take back my Bah. A promise is a promise. They are still hated.
I grew up believing that Jimmy Valvano was the devil....and when he died I was at a bar or a party, can't remember, and his picture came up on the TV and I started spouting off about how I hated that f-er. Really spewing, cussing, might have flipped off the TV, basically being a hate-filled jerk off. Someone turned up the volume and everyone looked at a very embarrassed me with a newfound feeling of revulsion for the girl who hated the dead guy. Now I can wish NC State to lose in the next round. :snap: Sorry, Jimmy. Anyone else notice that Coach K is in every single commercial except the Burger King ads? |
A-C-C! A-C-C!
Of course, now I can be stressed that Florida, who was up by 20, is now only up by 3 with 2:30 to go. (edited to bemoan that it is now tied with 2:12 left) OK St flirting with disaster, but they appear to have it wrapped up, up by 9 with about a minute to go. |
NC State--OK
Florida--OK, whew! Iowa State--OK OK State--OK Connecticut Villanova North Carolina (Go Tar Heels!!) S. Illinois Syracuse Louisville Wisconsin Duke Michigan State (sorry, ODU) Georgia Tech Kansas Stanford Oh man.....Florida, what the heck? Way too close the last few minutes!!! On to the next....... |
All these close games with 2, 3 or 4 seeds vs 12,13,14 seeds...some really great teams this first round! WOW!
|
These scores are so low though, like junior high girls games low. It's like watching blind Brownie troops play. Ugh!
I miss those 100 point games! Come on!! |
Quote:
Snork!!! |

I coach HS ball, and I love good D. There's some good D being played. It's also an issue of tempo control, though. The smaller schools can't complete athletically with the power houses, so they play a controlled game looking to keep it low scoring. It's easier to control the game to a slower tempo than it is to control it to a faster one. |
New Mexico has 11 points at the half. ELEVEN. In the NCAA tournament. OMG.
I hope UNC keeps up with the momentum.....I want someone to break 100 points today, dammit. Excrutiatingly low scores this afternoon! |

UConn flirting with disaster! Barely beating Central Florida 77-71.
Sorry Claire - UNC didn't quite make it to 100. |
Ah, but they were close. :) Good to see a team coming out and playing hard the entire game. My husband has a theory that teams that are so highly ranked come out and take it a little easy the first round. I know that Duke and UNC absolutely don't. If a player came out and took it easy, he'd find his butt on the bench.
So far today, I'm 8 for 8. :snap: NC State--OK Florida--OK, whew! Iowa State--OK OK State--OK Connecticut--OK Villanova--OK North Carolina (Go Tar Heels!!)--OK S. Illinois--OK Syracuse Louisville Wisconsin Duke Michigan State (sorry, ODU) Georgia Tech Kansas Stanford Time to take a little break....I'm really pumped for tonight's games, especially GA Tech and Duke. My husband and I are battling in the Stanford game. Other than that, we boringly (is that a word? :D ) have the same picks. He can't believe I picked Stanford. I only picked them because I never do. How's that for strategery? |
Duke's got me nervous. Coach K is reaming them right now. I expect they will perform their hearts out in the second half!
And Syracuse! Sheeessh!!! These games have me sweating!!! |
What a great game - Vermont over Syracuse. When that kid hit from 28 feet I knew they had it. That's what the tourney is all about - I don't care that I had Syracuse winning a couple. Watching a group of kids jump around the court after winning what no one expected them to is the best part of this tournament.
|
At 79% I'm at the top of my bracket pool (for the moment...).
I have a very conservative: Illinois, Arizona, Washington, and Wake for the final 4. |
Quote:
Also, looking at your picks, you're screwed! Illinois and Az are in the same region (Chicago), as are Washington and Wake (Albuquerque)! You have no one from Syracuse or Austin. |
Quote:
Well damn, I guess that's the last time I use THAT nickle to make my picks. |
I love college hoops! Kansas lost to flippin' Bucknell! What a great game.
|
I was typing while playing poker....
That should have read: Illinois, Washington, N. Carolina, Duke. My Bad. :) |
Interesting evening.
Syracuse busted up a few of my brackets, but Kansas losing put me right back in the thick of things in a couple of 'em. It looks like, on the surface anyway, Duke has a wide open path to the Elite Eight. Sigh, I wish I would have showed them more love. |
Quote:
Best conference in college hoops year in and year out. |
So far......25/32.....ouch!
Kansas screwed me. As did Stanford (that was one team I was NOT 100% for, I just picked them to be contrary to my husband and because I said last year I'd never pick them, won't do that again). I had Kansas going to the Eight, so that really hurt.....poor Simian. I really like him as a player. Damn, but he was fun to watch.
Cool for Bucknell though, whoever they are. :snap: I do love the upsets. Today......I'm a little whateverish. Might not be glued to the tube after all. Especially for Wash/Pac., since I had Pitt beating WA in this round. Oops. :p |

In the pool I run there were some with Syracuse in the final four and another with Kansas there. Ouch. Did you watch the Vermont or Bucknell upsets? Lordy, they were fun. |
We actually were high-fiving one another every time they showed that final 3-pointer in the Vermont game last night. Amazingly good stuff. Cool game.
The Kansas/Bucknell game, for some reason was a letdown. By the last five minutes, we decided Bucknell deserved to win it, so when they did, we just sat there beaming, even though it screwed me and screwed me bad. I couldn't get worked up over it. It was too cool. Then I looked down at my poor brackets and sighed. Deeply. |

I think Washington can take Pacific this next round, but I'm not so confident that Iowa State can take North Carolina. I will have to keep my fingers crossed that they keep the good thing going.
|
Bah. My bracket is in shambles. And the Pacific/WA game does nada for me.....
Go UNC! Sorry, Prudence! I need them to go alllll the way. Mama needs her Starbucks money. |
Damn you Gonzaga! [cartman voice] My god has forsaken me.
|
Yay! Washington's into the sweet 16!
And fie upon Claire's Starbucks! Go Cyclones! |

My brackets SUCK. Tomorrow I may redeem myself, but by then, it probably won't matter. My husband has three big games going right now....I only care about Illinois at this point in time. And they have me nervous. |
My brackets really suck! 1/2 of my final four is out already.
And where the hell did UW-Milwaukee come from??? (Don't acutally answer that, please.) :( |

Cow's are holy?
|
Man, what a game! I was jumping up and down, throwing stuff, cussing. Awesome game! I'm done for. With Wake out and most of my teams losing today (I only had Kentucky and Illinois wins today), it's looking pretty bad for me.
NC State and Wake always, and I mean ALWAYS screw me. But I was pretty satisfied with my Wake pick. Damn them Demon Deacons. Damn them to HELL. Bah. Tomorrow is another day. Right? |
Had Wake in my final four. Sigh.
|
Wow! Dude from West Virginia scored 19 points in the two overtimes. That game was so intense, even my kids drew battle lines. The youngest for West Virginia (Or, "West Vagina" as he insisted on yelling. As in, "Go West Vagina!!!" Will that kid ever give the anatomy talk a rest?), and the two older kids pulling for Wake.
My brackets are busted but it was fun. Now I can sit back and cheer on the Pac-10. |
Guess I put my faith in the wrong ACC team - NC State over UConn!
Hey, uh, Claire - you're the one who loves NC State, right? |
God, I hate NC State. That's all I'll say about that. But I am sort of excited/nervous about a NC State/UNC match up at regionals. That would be cool for me, personally. Unless NC State beats UNC. Um, not cool.
UNC looked like champs this weekend. Awesome. Duke made me nervous, but pulled their heads out. Louisville made me look like a genious. Apparently, I'm the only one that had them going to the Sweet 16. Of my Sweet 16 picks, only 8 are alive. Illinois, OK State, Louisville, UNC, Villanova, Duke, Michigan State, Kentucky. Of my Elite 8, 6 are still in it--Illinois, OK State, Louisville, UNC, Duke, and Kentucky. And of my F-4, three are still in it, Illinois, UNC and Duke. So while the second round killed me (and everyone else) point-wise, I'm actually not doing as bad as I thought. I thought I was out. But so many locals picked Gonzaga and Pacific for the F-4, and others picked GA Tech or Wake as their F-2, that I'm in the same boat as them in that bracket! Only I still have Louisville alive. Whew. Does that make sense to anyone but me? :D I need WA to lose something fierce. Okay, back to real life for a few days........ |
So this morning I found out I'm not dead in the water yet.....I'm tied for second place with someone else. Craziness. My husband is tied for third with 3-4 other people. There are two people tied for first, and they're just a point ahead of me. From here on out we all have vastly different picks, so it's anyone's game!! I'm actually better situated with 6 of my Elite Eight in the tournament. Most don't have that, and everyone is down at least one F-4.
I think a deciding factor for me will be the Louisville/WA game. I need the Louisville points. Everyone else is out of that bracket, and I'm the only one who can benefit from that game, period. Pacific, Gonzaga and GA Tech screwed a bunch of people, as did the obvious Kansas, Connecticut, and Florida losses. It's actually really interesting this year!! Games are on here at 4 p.m. Can't wait. :) |

I always figure if my brackets are completely screwed, most people have brackets that are completely screwed.
I just need Ok St and UNC to keep winning. The rest is pretty much fluff at this point, though a Louisville loss to WA (I gotta route for a Pac 10 team) helps me immensely in that it hurts everyone else. I had Wake beating GT and going to the final four. Not much chance of that now. |
Scummy Pac 10 Huskies! They got absolutely spanked.
Watch - with my luck, AZ will be the Pac 10 team that plays great and they'll beat my Ok St, who I have in the championship game. |
In WA we call it "Hawking it." And, just like the Seahawks, the Huskies hawked it.
Back to being apathetic about the Mariners upcoming season. |
Quote:
(actually it's cause a friend of ours tried to tell me I was in the Pac 10 now...NO Babe! Big 12 - forever and always!) Go Tech...who are kinda losing right now... :( |

Ok...I rooted for them in the end! Great game! go cats! ;) :p And my "little team that could" ...didn't! Crap! But it was a good run while it lasted...and a run nobody thought would happen! Heck...we were picked to finish 7th in the Big 12~ |
Scummy AZ screws me when I pick 'em and they screw me when I don't pick 'em.
Now I gotta hope they beat Illinois to screw everyone who had Illinois going to the final four. They'll probably screw me again by losing. :( |
Geez, scaeagles, you sure get screwed by athletic young men a lot.

Yowza! Guess I should have been backing the Big 10 rather than the ACC! 3 teams in the Elite 8 with Wisconsin and Mich St beating....ACC teams!
|
Good fun watching Duke lose.
|
Those games could be two of the biggest meltdowns I've ever seen. Well, maybe not W Va, as Louisville just started to play, but for AZ to get outscored 17-3 in the last 3 minutes to go to OT had to be the biggest. And then I have no idea what their timeout was for with 11 seconds left - what a horrid shot to end the game. I don't fault the coaches - that was a kid that gacked and wanted to win it by himself - no idea how much time was on the clock, nothing. You've got to shoot with at least 5 on the clock to give yourself the chance for the O board, which they got, but there was no time left. That guy will be thinking about that for a long time.
|
Duh,
John, Paul, George, and Ringo... oh.....Final four... My bad, please drive through |

Craptacular call of the weekend #1:
The traveling call on Villanova at the end of the North Carolina game. If you're gonna make that call at crunch-time, then you better call traveling the other 20 times it happens per game. Craptacular call of the weekend #2: That amazing three point shot at the buzzer by Kentucky to send the game into overtime against Michigan St. should have been a potential game winning four point play. The foul was clear. Both these calls, or more specifically, one bogus call and one bogus non-call, lead directly to teams being eliminated from the tourney. Unacceptable. |

And yes, that kid was fouled on the three - I thought he had the four point play to win as well. Good thought, Sac. |
Okay, loved Louisville's win......hated Duke's loss....found myself cursing for four days, and my Final 2 picks are still in--UNC and Illinois, UNC to win it all, dammit.
There were some awesome games! I'm nervous about the UNC/Michigan State match-up because Michigan State is so freaking scrappy and UNC did not look like a championship team yesterday. I had to miss the Kentucky/M State game yesterday.....stupid Easter ;) . But I caught all the other games. My husband was rooting for Arizona over Illinois, even though he had Illinois winning it all. Ugh. Once a Pac-tard, always a Pac-tard!!! Still kicking myself for picking Wake over Louisville. Stupid Wake. And Duke, WTF??? Gotta love all the people loving them going down in flames though...... |
Soooo.....I'm still in it!!
Carolina has to win tomorrow night. If they do, I win our pool, with only one bracket turned in. If Illinois wins, another guy wins the whole thing (one of three brackets). Fingers are crossed.....and I'm so excited to watch!!! We had to miss the Saturday night game due to our auction commitment that night, but someone went out to his car to listen to the game and came and gave me the results. I then blew it for other people who were taping the game at home.....but damn, I was SO excited!!! |
And so it ends - the UNC victory allows me a respectable 4th in the pool I run, thankfully beating my wife. That would have been horrible.
|
Congrats to Claire! And Leo! (4th and beating your wife is indeed respectable!)
We missed almost all of the game...I forgot. My bad! We clicked in with 2 minutes left...but it was good enough for me! We were pulling for UNC! Just cause I thought Illinois was getting a little cocky. (not that they didn't have a right to ...losing one game all year...not too shabby!) I'm kinda sad it's all over! Now I just have to root for the Baylor girls! Go Bears! |
WooHoo!!! Go Heels!!! :snap: :snap: :snap: :snap: :snap: :snap: :snap: :snap: :snap: I cried....damn, I am so happy!! I'll be on a high for a while. I am so happy right now! The money ($95) is just gravy, baby!! I'm sad it's over, too. Now I just have to hold my breath to find out who is going to go pro and who will stay put..... |
Well that sucked. One of my rites of spring was watching Roy Williams spit the bit come tourney time. Oh well, at least the Masters starts Thursday.
