Cartoon Dump - next Tuesday night

I know it's a school night, but here's where I'm going to be next Tuesday night. Anybody want to join me?

Quote:

Imagine a world where a children's show has a cast of characters that have more psychological disorders than you... Add the mind numbing debauchery of the worst, most poorly animated cartoons from the 50s, 60s, and 70s,... Throw in the wry commentary you came to love from "Mystery Science Theater 3000," and what have you got????
CARTOON DUMP!
The unholy alliance of noted author, producer and cartoon scholar Jerry Beck and writer/ producer/ comedian Frank Conniff (“TV’s Frank” from MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000). Hosted by Compost Brite, Cartoon Dump! boasts a beguiling cast of characters who will bring laughter and joy into the hearts of borderline schizophrenics and catatonic acidheads the world over. It's a kid's show that's not for kids, but for adults who are emotionally and developmentally damaged kids at heart.

Color me a bitter Northen Californian......

Ghoulish Delight 04-17-2008 09:00 AM

I so want to go to this, but a Tuesday drive to Hollywood is probably not happening next week. Sigh.

LSPoorEeyorick 04-17-2008 10:55 AM

Indeed. I will look into ticketage.

innerSpaceman 04-17-2008 10:57 AM

Hmmm, interested. What's with ticketage??

LSPoorEeyorick 04-17-2008 11:11 AM

$10/person. Can purchase online or by phone.

Work is going to be very hectic next week so I'm not sure I can leave in time to make this. Will keep it in mind, though, thanks!

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 04-17-2008 01:18 PM

I think this would be fun. Are we doing group tickets?

ME!

mousepod 04-17-2008 01:36 PM

I bought my ticket already... it's $12 including service charge. If anyone else is going, maybe we could meet up for dinner beforehand.

I should go see the show. No.1 - its hosted by TV's Frank (yay!) and No.2 - it is right around the corner from me. Yet, I do not go. I should, though.

It's tonight!

Am I going alone?

innerSpaceman 04-22-2008 11:47 AM

I'd so go with you if I could. I just left the area yesterday. Sad.

I would go, and in fact, I would leave work and fly out now, if it weren't for the fact that I don't really have the time to fly out to Cali at the moment.

Come up with neat-o-bandito stuff to do at the end of May. I'll be there!

Oh wait - off topic - when do Cemetery Screenings start up again? Must look into this...

Not Afraid 04-22-2008 04:55 PM

Cemetery screening start date hasn't been announced yet, but I'm checking often. At the moment, it just says "Starts May 2008".

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 04-22-2008 05:07 PM

Maybe some other Tuesday, J. Work, work, work....

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 04-22-2008 08:04 PM

I wanted to go but just didn't make it down. :( Next time.

LSPoorEeyorick 04-22-2008 10:32 PM

Let's try for next week, E? If work clears up?

And J, how was it??

mousepod 04-22-2008 10:34 PM

Just got home - it was great. Jerry Beck, who is an authority on American animation (he wrote my favorite Warner Bros cartoon book), came out first to talk a little bit about the bad cartoons that we'd be seeing during the evening. He explained the origins of such classics as "Mighty Mister Titan", "Super President", "Moon Mullins" and "Winky Dink". After a warm-up bad cartoon, the show began in earnest.

Erica Doering performed as "Compost Brite", while Frank Coniff played "Moodsy the Owl" - they did some great sketches and songs and introduced the cartoons. Tonight's special guest comedians were the Sklar Brothers, a very funny set of twins.

The theater is cozy, and the list of upcoming events is tantalizing. I'm certainly going to come back for another installment of Cartoon Dump, and probably a couple of other shows as well in the next month or so.
