Disneyphile's Fabulous Cruise Adventure-

I know some of us are getting text/pix messages from DP- came up with the brilliant idea to share it with everyone!

Will be passing 4 miles from Guantanimo Bay in a couple hours, and then Haiti. Will take photos and video. Might be like riding Pirates of the Caribbean, except with real cannons. Heh. Had huge brunch earlier. Still recovering. Very hot and humid right now. Just had 2-for-1 drinks. $5.50 total. Sitting on a shady deck watching the ocean. Wish you all were here.
....will update more as we go along...

Alex 05-12-2008 01:40 PM

Glad she's having fun.

Sad that the cruise ship is no longer an incommunicado zone.

Kevy Baby 05-12-2008 02:04 PM

It would be if I were on it!

Or at least as far as my work knew...

How nice! How I wish I was on the cruise. I know they are having fun. We should do an LoT cruise. I'd do anything to be on it and with you. my wonderful friends. I'd do everyone's laundry. I'd serve drinks. I'd get down on my knees and grovel. LOL

JWBear 05-12-2008 03:40 PM

Oooo.... LoT cruise! That would be so much fun!

innerSpaceman 05-12-2008 03:55 PM

Sigh, where's the Floating Lot Commune??

(But, and no offense meant, can I have JWBear's avatar boy down on his knees and groveling instead of BDBopper??)

BDBopper 05-12-2008 08:09 PM

I hate to disappoint anyone around here but I am not gay. My personality tends to lead me to be effeminate (not to mention the pituitary defect that causes my body not to produce enough testosterone).

I hope I didn't offend anyone by disclosing that information the way I just did it. And if that is not what you were talking about than you can start pointing at me and laughing. I don't mind. Really I don't. I'll start laughing too cause that's the way I am.

For the record I have no problem with homosexuals. As a Christian do I believe that is the way to live my life? No. However it is not right or proper to tell other people how to live and what to do. that would make me a major jerk and Homey don't play that! Besides, Those who judge shall be judged.

innerSpaceman 05-12-2008 08:45 PM

Oh, you got it right alright. I was totally asking if you were gay, and giving you the space to come out to the LoT if you were. Heheh.

But if you want to come out as a Christian instead, that's up to you ... and twice as daring.

Hummm, I don't think ISM has ever checked my sexual orientation....

Dear Mr. Bopper:

We understand that due to unfortunate circumstances you were denied entry into the "Bitter East Coast" club. That was really too bad.

However we think there might be room for you in another organization:

The Flaming Heterosexuals. We got it, we flaunt it. We have many great events! You can join us for Straight Day at Disneyland, we have 364 of them each year (365 on leap years). We'll save you a chair and a Playboy at our next meeting. :D

I agree. There is no other person on that cruise that deserves to have a good time than her after all she's been through this year.

Prudence 05-13-2008 09:03 AM

I'm so torn - yay for the Deserving Disneyphile -- or boo, hiss! rabid jealousy because she's there and I'm stuck here, not cruising, and monkeying with numbers.

Hmmm....yay! boo! yay! boo!

I think I need more photos to tip the balance.

Kevy Baby 05-13-2008 09:08 AM

Have any of you seen the "special" photo of the ménage à trois she was engaged in with Goofy and Mr. Incredible?

Alex 05-13-2008 09:14 AM

I'm saved from jealousy by the knowledge that while I love our one week Disney Cruise that I would go insane on a two-week cruise. Plus, by my count, I know about 45 people on the boat. That's too many to feel like I'm getting away.

But a lot of the people I know on board do love that much time on the ship and the continuous large party with friends atmosphere and that makes me pretty happy that they're getting to do it.

Nephythys 05-13-2008 09:39 AM

I hope she sends more pics soon- will post if she does. :)

Enjoying the tranquility of another sea day. Weather is gorgeous, although the ocean is a bit swelled, but I like that. It is like nature's E-ticket ride. We survived passing by Cuba, and no one signed up for the waterboarding excursion. Last night was formal. Everyone looked stunning. Food so far has included lots of chocolate and bacon. Quite nom nom nom. I am lounging on deck 4 right now, recovering from last night's free maitais at the captain's reception. Tonight is the totally awesome Circue style show. Will try to get decent video to share when I get back. Tomorrow we are in Aruba!

cirquelover 05-13-2008 11:27 AM

Thanks for the updates Nephy! You mean I'm missing a Cirque style show too, man I'm bummed.

I hope they are all having a wonderful time, just sad I had to cancel.

Greetings from Gatun Lake in the Panama Canal! The rainforest is all around and if we listen closely, we can hear the birds sing in the canopy. We should enter the Miraflores locks around 3pm PST. There are live webcams at pancanal.com and other sites. We skipped the special premiere of Prince Caspian so we could be up at 4am to get a good spot on deck to see the Gatun locks, but there are 3 more showings tonight. It is now 11am and the deck BBQ has just started. It is extremely humid and hot. The crew keep reminding us to stay hydrated. Off to grab some kabobs and ribs now.

BDBopper 05-16-2008 09:58 AM

is that a bandage I see on DP's finger? Thanks for keeping us updated. I miss everyone that is on that cruise. It seems a little empty around here. I am so glad they are having fun though.

They may have already passed through the Gatun locks. You will get another chance to watch for them when they pass through the Miraflores locks.

ETA: they will go under the Centennial Bridge before the MiraFlores locks, so you can watch for that webcam also

A cruiseship is pretty big, and doesn't respond to the helm very quickly. Mickey has ample time to let go of the wheel, run back for a picture, put his steamboat willy hat back on, and saunter to the wheel house.

Don't you know anything?
That's the only way to make sure she's not a pirate trying to take the ship. Or a scallawag stowaway. Or a siren trying to sink the ship with song.
Or it could be a way to identify who's who. You know, in case of... that's right, Kraken attack...

frodo potter 05-21-2008 08:03 AM

Ok, I have another update:

Hola Amigos!

I survived the very hot and humid weather in Acapulco yesterday while
trekking up 560 very uneven stone steps to the Palma Sola
archaeological site where we saw over a dozen petroglyphs. I'm quite
surprised I made it to the top, but I did, and the view of the bay was
incredible!

Later that day, I ventured just outside the terminal to visit some
street vendors and found a very old native woman who just kept
chanting with her hands out. So, I decided to hand her a dollar,
because I found her intriguing. She took my hand in both of hers and
began chanting a very neat blessing (at least I hope it was a
blessing), following with something that sounded like "Amen" after
about five minutes of interesting babble. The experience alone was
worth the buck. I wish I could have gotten a photo of her, but didn't
want to disrupt her constant ceremonial activity. On the way back to
the ship, I bought a little pink plastic bobble-leg lobster from a
kid. It's one of the weirdest things I've seen yet.

Last night, they transformed the adult pool deck into an "ultra
lounge", complete with posh pillows, curtains, and some swanktastic
music. I took a short video clip of the ambience and will post that
when I get home. It was like a little bit of LoT right here onboard,
and totally made me miss you all even more.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), we're in Puerto Vallarta, where I get to train
dolphins and sealions for the whole day. I'm really looking forward to
all of it, except for the wetsuit part, since I'm afraid my fellow
trainers might try to throw *me* some fish. Heh. ;)

I've been getting my hair double french braided every other day for
only $4 by the Caribbean hair braiders onboard. When I pull it out, it
looks all wavy and awesome. Unfortunately, I didn't figure this out
until we were mostly halfway through the trip, otherwise, I would have
let them do my hair from the beginning, since it's so cheap and makes
it so manageable without breaking my hair like the cornrows did.

Today was MouseAdventure at Sea. I found our packet on our door just
before 11am, and had it turned in by 3pm. The only downfall - we had
to score something in shuffleboard, and I couldn't score a single
point, so we missed that possible 10 points. :( But, it was fun, and
my dad had a blast with it too. We'll know the results tomorrow.

Tonight, we had a special performance by Alfonso Riberio and Joey
Fatone. They were actually really good, and I got some great footage.
They will be with us all the way to Los Angeles, and are doing an
autograph signing in a couple more days.

Right now, it's just a bit before midnight, and we're only 60 miles
from PV, so we're only traveling at 8.2 knots, which is making the
boat shake like crazy, since we're not really cutting through the
moderate swells. It's like a constant 4.0 earthquake almost. But, I'm
very used to it by now. And, I can hardly complain, because the
weather has been perfectly sunny, except for a short patch of rain as
we left port last night.

I'll write again soon! :)

Nephythys 05-21-2008 08:10 AM

woot!! Thanks FP

frodo potter 05-22-2008 07:00 PM

I'm not sure why this didn't get here till today but here is DP's update from the 18th:
Hi Everyone!

Greetings from the Magic! It's Sunday, May 18th, and we're currently
sailing off the coast of Central America, heading towards Mexico. The
canal crossing was nothing short of amazing, stupendous, wonderous,
etc., etc. There are no words to describe it, but I do have pictures,
which will probably have to wait until I get home, because I took no
less than 200 just through the crossing alone. In the meantime, enjoy
the photos that I took us through our stop in Aruba. :) I wanted to do
more updates and send more photos, but the internet connections are
usually very sporadic and I can only send so much via photo text
messages.

Right now, it's 2pm, and there have been quite a few sealife
encounters in the last couple days. We've seen dolphins and whales,
and also have had a large flock of birds following alongside the ship,
hunting the flying fish. It's breathtaking, and I've never experienced
so much activity on the seas before. There was even a
waterspout/"tornado" yesterday. Nature is definitely making herself
known on this voyage.

On Wednesday, we were in Aruba, which was surprisingly dry and not
tropical at all. The island is largely rock coral, and is heavily
populated with assorted cacti and iguanas. We took a semi-submersible
craft to a historic shipwreck. It was so beyond awesome! The people of
Aruba are very friendly, and largely poor. The minimum wage is $805
per month, which is also the lowest rent for a one-room apartment. A
couple of us had a great lunch at a local cafe. There were these puff
pastries filled with Dutch gouda cheese that I wish I could eat all
day long. Wolfy and I also went shopping for some tacky souvenirs. At
one shop, she asked the man for a lower price, and he obliged, saying,
"Just please promise me that you'll vote for Obama. We're tired of
this war. Tired of people dying and tired of people being poor." It
was really interesting to hear a foreign opinion firsthand. Anyway, I
ended up with a stuffed rainbow goat on a spring as my tacky prize for
that port. It's awesome! I also bought two bottles of mystery drink at
a convenience store. It is in a soda bottle with a white label that
reads "Nesbitts" with a rainbow and barcode - no ingredients or
flavors are indicated, yet the two bottles I contain two very
different colors. I asked the cashier what flavors they were, and even
he couldn't tell me. It's a little frightening, so I think I'll save
those for my husband to try first. ;)

Our group of 14 are all seated at the same table in the dining room.
We're the rowdiest bunch onboard, and lots of fun has been had so far.
We've had a private brunch at Palo, and we have the best table
reserved for us in the main dining rooms. Our service staff love us
because we're so lively.

Passing by Guantanamo Bay was interesting - through my binoculars, I
could see a patrol boat speeding along the shoreline. The actual bay
was just on the other side of the hills, so there were no buildings or
anything that we could see. Unfortunately, it was already nightfall by
the time we passed Haiti, so I have no pics of that.

Tomorrow, we dock in Acapulco. A few of us are signed up for a hike to
some ancient petroglyphs.

So far, we've gotten some behind-the-scenes looks at the upcoming Walt
Disney Family Museum. We absolutely need a group swanking to San
Francisco next year. The museum is going to be incredible, and really
pay homage to Walt's legacy, without the company's over-marketing,
etc. It's a nice tribute to have something separate from the typical
corporate stuff.

Oh, and for some of the guys back home, there was dancing cowboy
eye-candy last night on stage at one of the clubs. Don't worry - I
made sure to take video. ;)

Anyway, that's my more extensive update-at-sea instead of a tiny text
message today.

Well, I'm back.

:)

Just stepped in the door and gotta unpack and get some laundry going before even thinking of a trip report. I'll post some pics tomorrow once my brother gives me the dang USB cable for his camera.

The trip was everything I wanted and then some... seriously I just came back into my room and started crying. What a pansy, I tells ya!

Now I gotta read this thread to find out what happened. ;)

wolfy999 05-25-2008 06:51 PM

I'm home also.....Wolfette already left to skate with Dan. Tim and I are having some alone time together.

Will have pics posted tomorrow.

Nice to be back home!

BDBopper 05-25-2008 08:25 PM

frodo potter 05-26-2008 07:52 AM

DP is finally back I missed her so much.

I am so happy that she is finally home Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disneyphile 05-26-2008 02:55 PM

I am SO tired. I slept for 12 hours.

Now I gotta catch up.

I totally slacked on photos - less than 1,500. But, I have over 12 hours of video footage. Good thing I'll edit that down some. ;)

And, I'm actually a bit sea-sick right now - my body keeps wanting to bob back and forth a bit, and it feels like the room is moving, so my stomach is doing flip-flops. I don't have any problem on a boat, but once I'm back.... ick.

Deebs 05-26-2008 03:32 PM

Gotta get your land legs back.

Welcome home, DP!

Have you been away ?? ;)

Chernabog 05-26-2008 04:05 PM

Yeah trying really hard not to sink into what I think DP called the "cruise blues"... However, on an up note I do feel very rested -- so I accomplished what I wanted to on vacation. I needed a total decompression. And it's also quite freeing work-wise knowing that I can finally start my job search to move the heck on now. A few areas of my life need a total reboot, and work is public enemy #1.

And I'm still 1152 days sober today, even after all that cruising. Woot!

My brother is giving me that cable tonite, so hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday I'll have some pics up of the ship, etc.

mousepod 05-26-2008 04:21 PM

LSPoorEeyorick 05-26-2008 07:42 PM

Such a good trip, and DP is such an amazing person. Glad I'm not the only one who is "land-sick". Been asleep most of the day. I think of having to go back to work tomorrow and just want to cry.

Cherny, you are such an amazing person! Getting to know you better was one of the highlights of my trip.

Shayne

wolfy999 05-26-2008 08:57 PM

I only took around 350 pics...I'm so ashamed!

Getting to know everyone on the cruise was one of the best parts of the trip (maybe the Canal was better)!

Not Afraid 05-26-2008 09:46 PM

Welcome back! I can't wait to see pics and hear stories.

Ghoulish Delight 05-26-2008 09:50 PM

Welcome back! I'm massively jealous, but pretending that I'm vicariously relaxing reading about how relaxed you all were.

What a better way to beat the cruise blues than to book another? :D

Ken and I are already looking at a 7-night eastern Caribbean next September. (If it turns out that Tokyo is going to be too expensive for us.)

That's fantastic! How awesome! :)

Disneyphile 05-28-2008 12:40 AM

Hmmm. Just went on Travelocity and found roundtrip flight to Tokyo with 6-night stay at the Radisson for $1,244 per person.

And, a 4-day TDL park-hopper pass is only $144.

Tokyo might actually be doable...

You do realize that the Radisson is about 70 miles from TDL. Trains are fast and cheap, but quite a hassle. Travelocity does require full payment when booked and no guarantee how long those prices will be held.

The Wolfpack is still throwing around the idea, but going to wait a bit more.
