mousepod 05-17-2008 04:37 PM

Two great ones for openers. We'll be out of town this weekend - but The Party...

birdie num num.....

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 05-17-2008 06:13 PM

wow - can't wait to go. I hope they do less popular but good flix to keep all the "wanna-be's" out. ;)

LSPoorEeyorick 05-17-2008 07:16 PM

Oh! I LOVE The Party. But it's the same day as the reading. What if we did an afternoon reading followed by a group screening? (Ace in the Hole is during our Indy at Arclight swanking.)

€uroMeinke 05-19-2008 07:34 PM

The Hunger was announced for June 7

mousepod 05-19-2008 07:40 PM

How do you kill a vampire?

Spoiler:
Push it down the stairs, apparently.

Or so I recall.

Not Afraid 05-19-2008 07:44 PM

I love that movie, but I fear it will be a rude-fest.

And you will be camping

Not Afraid 05-19-2008 09:00 PM

OH.

I should check my calender more often. I should also make a few camping plans.

Prudence 05-19-2008 09:12 PM

How late in the year do these things usually run?

€uroMeinke 05-19-2008 09:20 PM

September with occasional Halloween screenings

innerSpaceman 05-19-2008 09:58 PM

Oh fine. I love THE HUNGER and would chance the Rude-Fest. Grrr, camping. Oh fine. not enough days in the life.

€uroMeinke 05-19-2008 10:01 PM

I'm hoping all the days of summer aren't just cramed into this two week period after memorial day

Well, considering you have no time off from now until the end of time........ take it while you can get it mister.

BarTopDancer 05-19-2008 10:05 PM

I think you guys should figure out how to screen this movie at Swank Camp.

Not Afraid 05-19-2008 10:06 PM

We'll put Kevy on a bike, butt naked, so he can run the generator to power the projector.

The nakedness is required for maximum efficiency

Kevy Baby 05-20-2008 04:46 PM

I just realized something: people eat at the screenings. Do you REALLY want to see me naked while you eat? (Yes, there is a whole other connotation, but you know what I mean!)

€uroMeinke 05-29-2008 11:55 PM

Cadaverous Pallor 05-30-2008 08:20 AM

I love all the titles so far because I haven't seen any of them, and don't even have expectations for them. Can't wait until we have a free Saturday!

Alex 05-30-2008 08:33 AM

Shampoo, bleh. My Man Godfrey, yeah!

Ditto that...

mousepod 05-30-2008 09:04 AM

I dunno... I liked Shampoo, too.

Not Afraid 05-30-2008 09:05 AM

I like Shampoo as well. I was just saying last year that I would love to see Shampoo at the cemetery!

Kevy Baby 05-30-2008 09:34 AM

I've actually never seen Shampoo. I would like to do that.

Alex 05-30-2008 09:40 AM

Well, I'm sure my response to Shampoo was tainted by the fact that I almost never enjoy Warren Beatty. Even in movies I like I tend to think they'd have been better with someone else.

Kevy Baby 05-30-2008 10:00 AM

A thought though: didn't Shampoo have lots of nekked boobage? Can they show that at the Cemetery or would it be edited?

Not Afraid 05-30-2008 10:01 AM

They never edit ANYTHING at the cemetery. I think they'd rather die than do that.

alphabassettgrrl 05-30-2008 10:21 AM

I'm hoping we can come to a couple of these. I don't know if I can talk hubby into seeing any of the titles so far, but maybe. Promises of food and boobage might work.

Isaac 05-30-2008 10:21 AM

So who's going this Saturday to The Party ?

I'm thinking of going. :)

Disneyphile 05-30-2008 10:32 AM

And, of course, Shampoo is playing the night I've actually got work. Figures. :(

Except me

€uroMeinke 06-03-2008 09:48 PM

Looks like there may be Sunday screenings as well this season - just got this announcement:

Quote:

presents

performance

directed by nicholas roeg and donald cammell (1970, 105 min.)

sunday, june 8

gates at 7:30 pm, film at 9:00 pm
hollywood forever cemetery
6000 santa monica boulevard at gower
no reservation necessary.
$10 donation tickets available at gate.
as a courtesy to other movie-goers: no tall chairs.

mick jagger and anita pallenberg star in this british psychedelic opus. when a dashing gangster on the lam hides out in the mansion of a faded rock star, their lives collide in a whirlpool of reality and fantasy. roeg's first film is a complex visual kaleidoscope blending together the criminal underworld of london and the psychedelic culture of rock and roll. jack nietzche, ry cooder and of course the stones supply the classic 60s soundtrack. genuinely mind-blowing. dj mahssa spins before and after the screening

innerSpaceman 06-04-2008 04:48 AM

WTF? Why not Wednesdays???

mousepod 06-04-2008 07:08 AM

OK... I've been really happy with the DVD that came out last year, but I think I'd love to see Performance with a group of people.

I recently saw Harmony Korine's flick, Mr. Lonely, which features both James Fox and Anita Pallenberg, and I've been ready to see them both when they were young and swingin'...

...is anyone up for this?

LSPoorEeyorick 06-04-2008 09:19 AM

Would be, but we're away for our anniversary; the usual Cemetary screeners are camping.

I guess it all depends on traffic and how early I leave Kings Canyon - this is a film I've been thinking about lately as something I saw 20 years ago and may have a better appreciation for now.

innerSpaceman 06-04-2008 12:01 PM

Pfft, it's martini hour the whole time €uro's at King's Canyon. I don't know when he'll be fit to drive!

Quote:

$10 donation tickets available at gate. parking $5.

LSPoorEeyorick 06-30-2008 06:35 AM

Here's where I have to admit that I've never seen Blue Velvet, or any movie by him. Perhaps a cemetary screening is not the best time for that?

But, hot damn! I'm SO there for Gold Diggers!

innerSpaceman 06-30-2008 08:21 AM

Oooh, i've only seen Blue Velvet once ... at the dawn of history. But what kind of freaks will that bring out the cemetery?

(I mean, besides us?)

€uroMeinke 06-30-2008 07:14 PM

not sure if this is a good weekend to plan anything, but I'd love too see Blue Velvet in a cemetery.

innerSpaceman 07-01-2008 12:29 AM

On the other hand, with all the planning for the 4th ... um, I've got nothing planned for the other two days of a 3-day weekend.

And, crikey, I haven't been to a cemetary screening yet this season.

Ironically, the entire week is full of stuff. Spa Night Monday, Love Honor Cherish Tuesday, My Birthday Wednesday, My Best Friend Laurie's Birthday Thursday, America's Birthday Friday ... it would be a real let-down if there were nothing going on for the holiday weekend. Heheh.

mousepod 07-01-2008 09:32 AM

If someone would be willing to twist my arm...

(I've never been to a Cemetery Screening - and I love Blue Velvet)

"I had a dream. In fact, the night I met you. In the dream the world was dark because there weren't any robins. You know, birds. Robins stood for love. And all of a sudden thousands of robins flew down and brought this blinding light of love. And it felt like that love would be the only thing that would make any difference. I guess until the robins come there is trouble."

Ghoulish Delight 07-01-2008 10:07 AM

Tempted....

innerSpaceman 07-01-2008 10:22 AM

Ok, believe it or not, I barely remember anything about Blue Velvet ... except that I DIDN'T LIKE IT.

I know I must have been misguided. I HAVE TO see this movie again. Who will come to the cemetery with me???? (I'm too scared to be in a cemetery alone at night.)

Kevy Baby 07-01-2008 10:34 AM

I don't believe I have ever seen Blue Velvet. I loved the one Cemetery Screening I went to and we have nothing planned for Saturday.

Lemme talk to Susan (or if someone wants to call her at home and convince her, I have no problem with that).

Ghoulish Delight 07-01-2008 10:37 AM

Blue Velvet is Sunday's screening. Which is why I'm a bit hesitant, that's pretty late to be driving back from LA on a Sunday for me.

mousepod 07-01-2008 10:53 AM

Oh, shoot. I'm picking up H at LAX on Sunday night, so no go for me.

innerSpaceman 07-01-2008 10:54 AM

Oh bah.

Kevy Baby 07-01-2008 10:57 AM

How about Easy Rider on Saturday?

LSPoorEeyorick 07-01-2008 11:25 AM

How about Gold Diggers of 1933 the next Saturday?

Two words: Busby Berkeley.

innerSpaceman 07-01-2008 11:31 AM

I'm really not so keen on Easy Rider. Just does nothing for me.

I'm up for Golddiggers next Saturday ... but it seems to me (though I'm alleging no conspiracy) they're putting the more appealing movies on Sunday this season, further alienating me from this once-great and budding summer tradition.

mousepod 07-01-2008 11:32 AM

I might be interested in that one.

It's weird, though. I have almost all of the (past and present) Cemetery Screening movies on DVD. I think my decision to see a movie has to be based on the kind of crowd that the movie will attract.

innerSpaceman 07-01-2008 11:34 AM

The only crowd I will avoid at the cemetery is the horror movie crowd. They absolutely RUINED a screening of The Haunting.

But I've never had a bad crowd experience with any other film (though I have heard of other bad experiences from others. I guess I would avoid any film that encourages (even more) drunken shenanigans at the cemetery.)

alphabassettgrrl 07-01-2008 06:36 PM

Is the cemetary screening dog-friendly?

innerSpaceman 07-09-2008 11:19 PM

I bought the DVD, but still haven't watched it. I think the Cemetery Screening is a must!

NirvanaMan 07-17-2008 09:34 PM

One of my all-time fave movies will be screening at the place of haunted entertainments this weekend: A Clockwork Orange!

I will be there with bells on. Well, maybe not bells, but cocktails for sure.

blueerica 07-18-2008 06:59 AM

No times for the old in-out love. I've just come to read the metere.

Oh, my brothers... I'm so sad to miss this one. One of my all-time faves as well.

Le sigh.

Cadaverous Pallor 07-18-2008 09:41 AM

innerSpaceman 07-18-2008 10:11 AM

So ... is anybody going to Clockwork Orange?

I'm torn between that and this all-nighter in Santa Monica.

I will be there tomorrow w/ Julie.

:)

innerSpaceman 07-18-2008 12:27 PM

I'm glad. I want to give you (and her) the biggest hug.

I love you, mr. zapppop, and we have to work out our stuff so we can still be friends. But really, must not let ourselves be so bugged by each other's faults in the way we were when we were boyfriends. It's not worth it. It just doesn't matter anymore.

Oh, it's good to communicate stuff to each other ... friends will always want friends to be better people. But we shouldn't take things so hard.

Oh, i'm sorry ... is this the cemetery screening thread? LOL.

Isaac 07-18-2008 12:43 PM

(attempting to stickt to topic)

We'll bury the hatchet. ;)

innerSpaceman 07-18-2008 01:02 PM

But if you want to bury it in the usual place, we'll have to go to one of the less crowded parts of the cemetery.

Oh ... or were you using that old metaphore for mending relationships?

Sigh, too bad ... I always wanted to do it on someone's grave. Very necro.

Forgiven? perhaps. Forgotten? Likely never.

mousepod 07-18-2008 01:20 PM

Sorry, bro. No can do. Murder Mystery Party that night in Glendora. I am playing a lifeguard with a Spicoli or Crush from Finding Nemo accent. It's one bodacious movie though, dude. Wish I could be there, though. Have a righteous time.

NirvanaMan 07-18-2008 05:53 PM

Oooh I have always wanted to do one of those! Sounds awesome.

innerSpaceman 07-18-2008 07:59 PM

Heheheh, we'll have the perfect cast of characters for that tomorrow night.

And a cemetery is a great place to hide the body!

alphabassettgrrl 07-18-2008 11:14 PM

We did a murder mystery game on the cruise ship. In the Beauty and the Beast dining room over lunch. People were staring. We had a ball.

Might come down if I get off work in time tomorrow. Would love to see CO.

innerSpaceman 07-19-2008 04:09 PM

Late hour and I'm still undecided. I even bowed out of other fun plans because of the cemetery.

But I have a bad feeling about it.

At a time when zapppop and i are going thru the greatest crisis in our relationship since breaking up (for reals) ... we are still going to try to work things out so we can remain friends, and would be completely comfortable, civil and sociable with each other at the cemetery tonight.

So the thought of our extended LoT group perhaps having to remain in separate camps, divided because of others in similar straights who, i get a feeling, can't say the same ... fills me with a sadness that I don't necessarily want to face.

Sigh, the immortal words of Rodney King.

Not Afraid 07-19-2008 04:11 PM

All I can say is I'm going for the drama on-screen and have no desire to experience any off screen.

€uroMeinke 07-19-2008 04:17 PM

Well, so far all the dramatic monologues are coming form just one source

innerSpaceman 07-19-2008 04:51 PM

Yeah, because not everybody posts here (anymore).

It's likely all in my head, and I'm just being skittish after last weekend. But I've already had to deal with make sure you tell so-and-so that who's-his-face is going to be there. I'm weary of such things at this particular point.

That said, I don't expect any offscreen drama at all.

And those ring as famous last words to me nowadays.

Cadaverous Pallor 07-19-2008 07:11 PM

Um, hello? Talking about drama IS bringing drama. Duh. Keep this crap off board, please. Boo.

innerSpaceman 07-20-2008 01:07 AM

oh please. And you can L7 me all you want. I suppose there's a line and I'm sorry if I crossed it, but if we can never mention anything personal here ... there's an important benefit missing from having this tightknit and personally connected a community.

But yeah, touchy subject, and I'm sorry I brought it up. I'm a little shell shocked from drama, and I admit my judgment may have been poor in where I voiced my heartfelt concerns.

As it happened, everything went off without a hitch, for which I am eternally grateful.

Sorry for the faux pas ... but sheesh.

A small derail...
So, it turns out that I was the murderer at the Murder Mystery Party. How cool is that? AND only 2 people guessed I was the guilty party. The others found me 'too mellow to be a murderer'. Lol!
:D

It's always the quiet, mellow ones you have to worry about!

Cemetery was fun - getting there another story, though by the end I was laughing hysterically over the absurdity of the whole situation. Here's a pic of a car that made a U-turn on Santa Monica to try to cut in front of us. Need-less to say, with Lisa Driving, they did not succeed.

Not Afraid 07-20-2008 10:05 AM

I was in full punk rock driver mode by the time we got through the gates. Then the parking attendant was an idiot. Instead of making people pull into the straight line of parking starting with the end of the line he was having people pull in and back up. It was taking For EVER to get cars in line. I just pulled up to the front and parked, the cars behind me did likewise. The attendant said "everyone's backing up" I replied, (disdainfully) I know, but this is much easier.

Don't mess with me in that mode. ;)

innerSpaceman 08-20-2008 01:04 PM

Finallly, something on the schedule I'd care to see.

REAR WINDOW - this coming Saturday, August 23 - James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Alfred Hitchcock, Perfection.

Anyone interested?

LashStoat 08-20-2008 01:06 PM

The Party is a hoot - I recommend it to all. I wish we could be there to share it with you.

Love and hugs,

The Stoat XXX.

Chernabog 08-20-2008 01:21 PM

Can't this Saturday... it's Donna Summer at the Hollywood Bowl! It's like the fagtastic event of the summer.

That was the second weekend of the season; back on May 31.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Sure to be a busy night.

innerSpaceman 08-20-2008 02:48 PM

oh, i wonder if I'll be missing that? ;)

I wonder which version they'll play??

Well, you'll be able to tell 13.8 seconds into the credits, right? ;)

innerSpaceman 08-20-2008 03:08 PM

Actually the first indication is a good 8 minutes in.

Not Afraid 08-20-2008 04:30 PM

I don't have plans for Saturday. I don't know if I want to have plans for Saturday.

innerSpaceman 08-20-2008 04:39 PM

Well, I'd like to go to Rear Window, if anyone's up for it.

I'm definitely going to Close Encounters, and I hope some folks will join me.
OMG, UFO movie under the Stars. So many parts of that film will be fun to look up from the screen at the starry sky.

Too bad there are no stars. ;)

Busy busy this weekend. :(

€uroMeinke 08-20-2008 08:21 PM

Hmmm - this would be the Hitchcock birthday screening I presume

NirvanaMan 08-20-2008 11:22 PM

Damn would like to, but plans already.

alphabassettgrrl 08-21-2008 07:45 PM

Close Encounters is very very tempting.

Not Afraid 08-27-2008 06:24 PM

They're showing Duck Soup next week.

innerSpaceman 08-27-2008 06:28 PM

oooh, i love me some Duck Soup. Dare we bring soup for picnic?

Cadaverous Pallor 08-27-2008 06:49 PM

Ooh! I think we can make it! And yes, we'd totally have to bring soup.

LSPoorEeyorick 08-27-2008 08:28 PM

DUCK SOUP! I wanna go.

alphabassettgrrl 08-27-2008 10:39 PM

Anybody still considering Close Encounters this weekend?

innerSpaceman 08-27-2008 10:54 PM

Yep, i'm going alone if need be.

alphabassettgrrl 08-28-2008 09:59 AM

Cool! I'm hoping we make it. We'll see you there! I haven't seen this movie in years.

Gemini Cricket 08-28-2008 10:42 AM

Sadly, I have other commitments this weekend.
:(

alphabassettgrrl 08-28-2008 04:29 PM

More important than coming to watch a cool movie with *us*????

Bummer.

innerSpaceman 08-31-2008 10:10 AM

HAHAHA! You all missed out! Sorry to gloat. Not anyone's fault if they don't love this FANTASTIC movie that is Spielberg's Masterpiece, but there's just no accounting for taste.

Fortunately, there are TONS of Big Fans ... and they all showed up at the Cemetery last night. It was seriously the best screening of Close Encounters since 1977.

It was also the first time I've seen the 1977 version projected for an audience since the intial run of that movie just about 30 years ago. So freaktastingly excellent.

For the second time in a week, a movie exhibitor touted their special sound system (they also did it at the El Cap on Thursday for Sleeping Beauty), and indeed a special sonic set-up was done for the cemetery screening of CE3K.

They announced that Close Encounters is the loudest movie ever made (by decibel measure), and the sound was the best the cemetery has ever had.

The UFOs all had this great thrum that had such presence, and the Mothership had an astounding bass rumbling that literally shook the ground. It was the same effect as in the original theatrical run, but was far more effective outdoors than inside a theater. So even though we could see only four or five stars, this effect which dominated the finale of the movie made it the unique outdoor experience I was hoping for.

The other great sensurround elements were LIVE HELICOPTERS during Two, count-'em, TWO helicopter shots in the film. Hahahaha, Hysterical.

Um, no helicopters overhead for the entirety of the movie, btw ... just during these two shots when there were helicopters chasing our heros up the slopes of Devil's Tower. Better cooperation from the outdoor universe could not have been asked for.

And I could not have asked for a better cemetery audience. I haven't experienced this level of crowd reaction to the film since it premiered in 1977. And the 1977 version of the film seen by a large audience for the first time in 30 years made for an amazing event.

I never managed to hook up with alphabassetgrrl. And I'm so sorry more of you weren't able to attend. It was my Favorite Cemetery Screening EVER.

alphabassettgrrl 08-31-2008 10:37 AM

Yeah, sorry we couldn't get together last night. I did enjoy the movie, though! We noticed and were amused by the live helicopters at just the right time, too. :)

This was my first cemetary screening, and I couldn't have asked for a better night. Well, the driving and parking thing could have been better, but we didn't know any better. I need to work out timetables for taking the Red line from Universal and either biking or walking in. It's only about a mile or so from the station to the cemetary, and then we'd avoid all the car nastiness involved with having only one entrance and a gajillion people.

innerSpaceman 09-04-2008 03:13 PM

So is anyone still interested in Duck Soup this coming Saturday?

We could bring soup in thermoses!

Ghoulish Delight 09-04-2008 03:18 PM

We're still planning on being there.

SzczerbiakManiac 09-05-2008 10:28 AM

I'm gonna try to make it.

innerSpaceman 09-05-2008 10:30 AM

Does everybody have thermoses? (thermosi??)

I have Kermit the Frog, Rainbow Brite, Snoopy and I think Scooby Doo thermoses.

I don't think I'll be able to make the movie though.

Cadaverous Pallor 09-05-2008 03:56 PM

Anyone bringing duck? ;)

innerSpaceman 09-05-2008 04:06 PM

Don't tempt me.

Leigh-Ann 09-05-2008 10:41 PM

i wanna go

innerSpaceman 09-05-2008 11:46 PM

5 hour drive. It's nothing!

innerSpaceman 09-06-2008 11:32 PM

Ohmygod Ohmygod Ohmygod ... DAN, I AM SOOOOOO SORRRY.

We totally spaced. Ugh. Did not check the LoT for who we might be flaking on, so so so so so and so sorry.

Frell. That was lousy of us. Jeebus. Bad bad bad us.

Translation for the rest of you: we lost track of time at the casa de mousepod movie brunch and skipped Duck Soup at the cemetery with the nagging but woefully unexplored feeling that someone(s) might be meeting us there, and we didn't check the LoT to be sure, we just kept on having fun without going anyware or being any aware. UGH.

Cadaverous Pallor 09-06-2008 11:50 PM

I felt so bad taking the phone call. :( We had all our crap in the car and were totally geared up this morning, but by the time it rolled around, we were so rooted at the mousepod house...

I'm sorry, Dan.

innerSpaceman 09-17-2008 12:24 PM

Ok everybody ... last chance. This Saturday is the last cemetery screening of the season ... and as usual, they conclude with a horror classic ... this time it's ALIEN.

Yes, that movie is 30 years old. That's classic now. (Most of the old-time studio classics I grew up on were, omg, usually around 30 years old at that time.)

Anyway, we haven't been to the cemetery as a group nearly enough this season (um ... ONCE).

Anyone want to try for a swan song??

SzczerbiakManiac 09-17-2008 03:20 PM

I think that would be fun. Lemme know if anyone else is planning on going.

alphabassettgrrl 09-17-2008 10:06 PM

Sadly, I'm working. ::sigh:: And I *love* the original Alien movie.

innerSpaceman 09-19-2008 11:58 AM

Bueller?

SzczerbiakManiac 09-20-2008 12:08 PM

Well since it's five hours before the time I would need to leave and nobody has replied in the affirmative, I guess I'll pass. :(
