Memorial Day Weekend Plans?

Any big plans for the upcoming three day weekend?

mousepod 05-20-2008 01:39 PM

We're going to the Caribbean. (Heather won't let me dress as Jack, sadly)

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 05-20-2008 01:47 PM

I think I'm joining in on some Burning Car thing...

katiesue 05-20-2008 01:47 PM

Saturday we're having an LA day (Maddy wants to see where she was born in Beberly Hills) and then Indy.

Sunday hang around probably and say we're going to clean the house but of course we never do.

Monday Maddy plays Polo and I'm doing nothing. Well perhaps trying out a few recipes for camping.

I have to say I do slightly miss my Mother's Memorial Day fest of spending the weekend cutting flowers and taking them to all the graves. Cemataries are so interesting. Lots of family history to sort out. And then we'd usually go to the lake. Then my Dad would attempt to listen to the Indy 500 on the radio which was never very successful because there was no reception. Which would of course make him cranky as he'd rather be home on the couch. Ahh a festival of fun.

Ghoulish Delight 05-20-2008 01:48 PM

On Sunday I'll be partying like there's no tomorrow. Except that there will be a tomorrow, during which more partying is very likely to occur.

Alex 05-20-2008 01:50 PM

I forgot it was a holiday weekend until this morning.

I'm sure we'll come up with something but it won't be planned.

Not Afraid 05-20-2008 01:50 PM

I cannot believe MD is the 24th - 26th. I hardly have anything on my calendar - work wise. This is usually a slammed weekend for me. I've kept it open because if the potential of work, so nothing planned except Indy.

However, the weekend AFTER MD is super filled with stuff both work and fun.

I was going to the war with Kevy and GusGus, but I couldn't make it work.

innerSpaceman 05-20-2008 02:40 PM

3-day weekend's worth of chores Saturday morning.

INDIANA JONES night with 20 of my closest friends. The movie better be good, because it will be my third screening. If it's not good, it will be my last.

Sunday - - a late afternoon wedding. The first I've gone to in over a year that I haven't performed the ceremony for. This will be a welcome relief. After the reception, it's off the car-b-que on the opposite end of the L.A. basin ... arriving just before the overnight portion of the festivities ... so I intend to encourage more festivities on Memorial Day!

I don't think that'll require much encouragement. ;)

My plans pretty much match yours, minus the wedding.

Tempting.... But I doubt I could make it. Besides... Goddess only knows where my old garb has gotten to in the garage (and what shape it's in).

Unless you had Noble's garb (in which case I wouldn't associate with you ;) ), whatever has happened to the garb has only improved it

BDBopper 05-20-2008 05:21 PM

Let's see I'll probably go see Indy. The other big thing is that my parents are rolling out of town for two weeks on Sunday. They are headed for Washington State to help my Grandma move across town (she just sold her home). I've been left at home for a few lengthy times when they have gone up there but this will be the first time I am really Independent. One of my younger brothers has already moved out and my youngest brother is on his way out. He doesn't spend too much time here anymore. So it will be just me as King of the Castle! yay!

Party at Bopper's place! :) Who's coming? (just kidding of course) Maybe this calls for its own thread entirely. ;)

Prudence 05-20-2008 08:02 PM

Hey Kevy - assuming I do in fact move down there this fall, can I tag along to an event with you guys sometime? I miss eventing and I don't know anyone down there.

As for me - I do have some plans for Memorial Day. They mostly involve shipping the spousal unit over to his folks across the mountains for the weekend. For as long as possible. Because seriously, I am so sick of this sh!t.

CoasterMatt 05-20-2008 08:09 PM

I'm working Saturday, as for Sunday and Monday- I won't know for sure until Friday, but I should have those two days off for some prime partying.

Abso-dam-lutely. For Labor Day Weekend, we will be doing Imperial War. It is much smaller, but it is in Orange County.

You mean Gyldenholt? ;)

Morrigoon 05-20-2008 10:58 PM

I'm throwing a bbq for Alex's coworkers (which I'll naturally be writing off next year's taxes)

libraryvixen 05-20-2008 10:59 PM

Friday: off, but lots of fun running errands
Satuday: work (boo hiss) followed by a BBQ after work
Sunday: movie day with friends
Monday: be happy I'm not at work

Not Afraid 05-20-2008 11:00 PM

I just found out about a party I didn't know about but probably won't be able to go to because I haven't made plans for Thurston.

Gn2Dlnd 05-21-2008 12:07 AM

Friday, market. Saturday, off. Sunday, market. Monday, baking.

What three day weekend?

Stan4dSteph 05-21-2008 01:03 AM

I don't have Monday off, but I'm going to try to at least get out of town this weekend instead of sitting around doing nothing much.

lashbear 05-21-2008 01:38 AM

you mean the Queens Birthday weekend of 7, 8, 9 June? I'll be going up to Forster.

... Oh, and BTW, Forster is pronounced Fohs-tah, not Fasterrr or Four-sterrr. :p

Mousey Girl 05-21-2008 05:43 AM

I keep fogetting... I am supposed to go to the roller derby Saturday night. I am still debating this with myself.

Sweet! I used to watch that on ESPN Classic when they showed it from back in the day. I found it uber amusing. You gonna be rolling with some cool chicks? What about the man in the chicken suit that was always rolling along with them? LOL

Gyldenholt is SCA. Imperial War (technically called Crown War - we just call it Imperial War for whatever reason) is an Adrian Empire event. Here is a link from the event a couple of years ago (not surprisingly, the site is out of date).

Limping along. I really don't keep up on it - I just go because the guy who used to be the Site Autocrat (Sir Giachino Morone) is a friend.

JWBear 05-21-2008 11:26 AM

I remember when they started. I had no idea they would last this long.

Snowflake 05-21-2008 04:09 PM

Visiting friends on Saturday, BBQ on Sunday and loafing on Monday. In between I hope to sleep, and maybe write something. Anything.

madmonkeygirl 05-21-2008 04:31 PM

Memorial Day Weekend Plans?

You won't catch this chick on skates. I used to love skating, but when I sprained both of my ankles (at the same time), that was the end of any future skating. I did try at my 20 year reunion. I put the skates on, stood up, and sat right back down and took them off.

I have a good friend on the Bakersfield Rollergirls. I saw her today (she is also the artist behind my claws). She really put the pressure on me to go.

All of my plans for Friday/Saturday have changed. Boy no longer has baseball practice Friday, so I don't have to worry about that, just go to Chuy's and enjoy myself as much as possible with a giant, overprotective 11 year old.

Saturday morning, we are still heading over to The Old People's house. Satuday afternoon, 3ish, I get to meet Dawn at a sporting goods store to get her son and mine some cleats. She wants to pay, so I will let her. Saturday night it is the Derby.

Not Afraid 05-25-2008 11:11 AM

Nice day for a BBQ. Isolated thunderstorms, high of 63, low of 49.

BarTopDancer 05-25-2008 12:04 PM

That'll just make for fun experiences that aren't available when weather cooperates.

libraryvixen 05-25-2008 12:15 PM

My friend invited me to a martini party today! Yay!

Mousey Girl 05-25-2008 01:44 PM

I didn't go out Friday night. My friend called so say that she wasn't able to go. I didn't mind, I didn't really feel like going out.

Yesterday was fun. I really enjoyed the Derby. I liked that they had the rules listed on the program. It made it easy to figure out what was going on. Boy played in the mini arcade for the entire game. Next time he will spend the night at The Old People's and I will go alone to the game and then be able to go to the after party at a bar.

We just got home from seeing Prince Caspian.

wendybeth 05-26-2008 01:22 AM

Tomorrow (today, as it's late) we are having my sister Bobbi's b-day party. We have it every year on Memorial Day, and every year it rains. So, I'm guessing it's gonna rain tomorrow. (Today). Still, Happy Birthday to my sis!

BarTopDancer 05-26-2008 10:06 PM

getting sunburned.

Not Afraid 05-26-2008 10:14 PM

I've heard that if you eat enough meat, you don't need to sleep - ever.

Alex 05-26-2008 10:19 PM

Ended up finding a new way to drive home from Reno. Roads never before traveled by me. That's always time well spend.

Kevy Baby 05-27-2008 05:50 PM

All things considered, I would rather have gone to the BBQ I was invited to than war.

CoasterMatt 05-27-2008 06:02 PM

I had the worst actual Memorial Day I can recall. If I would have killed every person that said the phrase "Nobody told me", I could have filled a good sized cemetary. But I guess all those young men and women died so the dimwits, fvcktards and general asshats of the country have the right to act like that.
