It's official - California Dreamin' becomes reality
I received my revised offer today. $14,960 increase over the first offer. I suspect they don't want to go to a higher grade (even though they could) because it's the military and they're all rank conscious. So, they offered me the highest possible salary in the first grade. Which is higher than the first several steps of the next grade up, actually. Slight decrease from my current salary with my raise, but higher than my salary prior to the raise. 9K signing bonus. Paid relocation expenses, including mileage and per diem.
So, while I'm going to make them sweat until tomorrow, it's basically official. I am moving the the greater LA area this fall. This is very exciting - but also bittersweet. There are additional changes underway in my life which I have alluded to elsewhere but won't be discussing further out in the open at this time. (IM me if you want the dirt). Some of these changes are very sad and a bit heartbreaking. But, I hope that this new phase of my life will truly be an opportunity to embark on a new and amazing adventure. And I hope I can count on the rest of you already enjoying the southern California experience to help me over the rough and lonely patches. So, with that, I invite you to prepare yourselves - invasion is imminent. |
Congratulations, and best of luck weathering the turbulence! And maybe a few more of these.  |
Welcome to California Now Go Home -hehe my Dad used to have that bumper sticker.

While I'm very happy to be able to have you nearer, you know my hugs and thoughts are with you while you go through all of the connected changes.
But enough of that for right now... let's talk about areas of the city, restaurants, stuff to do... |

I forget, where are you now? Have you compared the cost of living in SoCal to your current location?
I know when I moved from small town Texas to Washington, D.C. I nearly leapt out of my seat at the salary I was offered. Then I went apartment shopping  |
Warmest congratulations, this is wonderful news!

Best of luck in all things.

Don't be bitter! ;) |
Will you be making top-secret recon missions this summer? Will there be snacks?
|
Will there be boobies? It IS a requisite to flash me (and NM and, well, ALL LoTer's) for living in Southern California.
