AP Preview of TSMM

Wolfette and I won....anyone else going?

Isaac 06-02-2008 06:50 PM

After seeing a video of the full ride, I'm not sure I EVER wanna ride it.

If I do, I predict a stop @ The Cove Bar on the way to the ride.

Yeah, it's THAT bad.

wolfy999 06-02-2008 06:54 PM

I saw the video also, and I thought Cove Bar also.

But heck, I'm willing to give it a try in person (drink first)!

innerSpaceman 06-02-2008 06:57 PM

I'm interested in giving it a try. But not if I have to wait longer than 10 minutes.

So it may be a while.

Isaac 06-02-2008 07:07 PM

It's in DCA.
I doubt there'll be a long wait.

DreadPirateRoberts 06-02-2008 07:24 PM

We got AP preview tickets.

Cadaverous Pallor 06-02-2008 07:38 PM

Hmm, perhaps should keep our ears to the ground (er, Disney internet) for soft open news. Last time we heard they were letting any APers into the subs on AP preview day, tickets or no, and we drove over.

COVE BAR!!! :(

Do you have a link for the video?

Disneyphile 06-02-2008 07:53 PM

A couple friends won tics and have invited us next Wednesday.

Soft openings have already started....or maybe CM preview, not sure. But while we were on the DCL a text message came through on my roommate's phone that a friend had already been on the ride.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 06-02-2008 08:08 PM

I rode it in Florida - I didn't win so in a way I won anyway...

I'll ride it eventualy. If they do the same as Nemo then I'll stop in to see if I can and I will let the masses (aka LoT) know about it...

Ride it, then go to the bar... then go back afterward... if you don't like it the first time you might understand it better the 2nd time?

You do not want to see the video, it does not do the attraction enough justice... its best to experience than to just watch.

Cove Bar 1st, then TSMM, and then Cove Bar again. Right Zap?

figment1986 06-02-2008 10:05 PM

the attraction might need you to be sober before going on it the first time... it is a bit of a work out for your arms pending how much shooting you do.

Sober!! I'm never sober in DCA:evil:
I will ride it in September, after summer is over.

RStar 06-02-2008 11:04 PM

I'm going. I won tickets for friday. It looks like it will be a fun ride. But I like Buzz also.

Chernabog 06-03-2008 01:18 AM

I'll be going on Monday evening if anyone else is down there (my friend Nick won tickets).

Most online reviews of people who have actually ridden it think it is a fun ride.

I don't think it is as innovative as WDI would like you to believe (I mean, come on, my Wii does the same thing, if I had Cheese Man push the sofa around while I played, we'd have TSMM). But it does look fun, even if it'd be ten times more creative with "real" elements.

MouseWife 06-03-2008 07:41 AM

I enjoy Buzzlightyear so I will enjoy this. I don't play the Wii so I can't compare.

I am soooo looking forward to this but sad because I don't know when I will be able to do so.

It is fun for our group {or just the Hubster and myself}, we challenge one another and the one with the highest score at the end wins the prize, $5 or $10 bucks.

Wait, do they have it where you can send photos at the end? 'Cause that is how we determine the winner. Some scores are too close and not being in the same car, well, we need photo finish proof.

*sigh* I'll just sit here and play the online game until I go.

Everyone please enjoy it, with or without the Cove Bar visit!! Share your reviews and any tips, okay?

~MS~ 06-03-2008 08:08 AM

I won for Thursday the 12th but with the price of gas I am going to pass and wait til our trip in August.

Stan4dSteph 06-03-2008 09:11 AM

I don't see how a 2D presentation of a recorded 3D ride would be anything but crappy, and not really representative of the actual ride.

keith - SuPeR K! 06-03-2008 12:39 PM

Leigh-Ann and I both won so we may be out there Monday-Tuesday! (My pass expires the 16th and I don't know how renewal will happen with the hospital bills which I am not looking forward to receiving so I might as well go while I can!)

Ponine 06-03-2008 01:58 PM

Well, I did not win, but know someone who did for the 12th.. only get this, they cant go.

They have to be there, dont they? bummer

Sweet!! Nick and I will be there Monday night, our window is from 4-9, so come meet us, yo!!!!

wolfy999 06-03-2008 02:31 PM

I've got the same window as you Chernie! Maybe we'll see you that evening!

Chernabog 06-03-2008 02:34 PM

Yay!!! Hey did Adrian the waiter ever call you?

wolfy999 06-03-2008 04:41 PM

He's got my e-mail address. If he ever gets enough time in Port I'll pick him up for a trip to the Park. I'll get a hold of as many people as I can when the time comes. He didn't really have high hopes....maybe towards the end of the Mexican run.

Chernabog 06-03-2008 05:01 PM

Aaah kk. Brian and Jennye from the cruise are gonna be out on the 22nd, we'll prolly hit DL on the 23rd :)

The gasoline bill from LV to LA and back might just rival the hospital bill, but if you do end up coming ... here's a plea for Tuesday, for those of us who'll be at Swank Camp on Monday.

I want to see your scar!

(and give you a great big, but not too squishy, hug.)

keith - SuPeR K! 06-05-2008 02:32 PM

we'll prob come out monday and leave tuesday night... anyone got room for 2 at their place monday night?

as for my scars... i dunno if the bandages will have fallen off by then! lol

Chernabog 06-05-2008 06:07 PM

haha well there's always room at my place if LA doesn't mind couch-surfing. I am a little ways from the park (like 39 miles) of course.

So is it a big scar or a bunch of tiny little ones?

wolfy999 06-05-2008 09:53 PM

I wish I could put you two up...but it's a school night for Marina, unless of course you guys want to go to sleep around 9:30!

RStar 06-07-2008 12:30 PM

I wonder if you will only be allowed to ride once....

RStar 06-09-2008 10:52 PM

Ok, I liked it! It was a fairly hot day, so our group only rode once. I'll go again as soon as I can!

And boy, the parks were quite crowded for a monday!

Chernabog 06-10-2008 12:20 AM

We rode twice today, everyone totally enjoyed it. It really was a lot of fun, but man I hope you have more than one "technique" (you know what I mean, men) or your arm is gonna huuuuurt during the bonus round ;)

Worth a bit of a wait in line (maybe 20-40 minutes I'd wait for it). There were a lot of cute things along the walls, the game itself is super cute, the 3d effects are good! But more or less, my Wii does the same thing on my big TV, sans the 3d. So it met my expectations and I had an awesome time going!!!

There were a lot of bugs though -- the potato head wasnt working at all (dammit), our first time thru the bonus round had a screen that said "sorry, this isnt working today", and the second time around the first game didn't play at all, we just came to a screen with no targets and it sat there and moved onto the next thing after 30 seconds.

I know it isn't a high bar, but it is one of the best things in DCA. Worth going on, fo'sho, but don't wait for longer than an hour unless it's your first time :) Fine summer fun :)

I got to ride today with a couple of friends. Needless to say, the man of our group scored the highest both times that we rode. We two gals said it's because men definitely have an unfair advantage on this attraction. ;)

BarTopDancer 06-11-2008 07:53 PM

OMG I loved it! I loved everything along the walls, the games, the whole experience (except the queue, which will stink during the summer).

After TMAoWTP [size="1"](I'm so sad, that ride SUCKED[!!!/SIZE]) I have very low expectations for any ride. Loved this one. Laughing, giggling and  the whole time. I think it's a true, family friendly "Disney" ride for kids of all ages.

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 06-16-2008 03:00 PM

NM and I rode last night and loved it. Or, I should say we both enjoyed it immensely, that much I can say with certainty. I'm not sure he used the word "love" but I will certainly use it here. Love the ride and hope to enjoy it again soon.
Spoiler:

The ride's exterior was beautifully done and detailed, though part of the queue wasn't air conditioned and should have been, and the tile they chose for some of the interior floor (though pretty and well matched) made every bit of dirt and scuff mark show up quite vividly.

The cars are great fun, as is the "gun" you use throughout the experience. I think this ride has a lot of repeatability, since there is more to discover about the game play along the way. The scoring system is great fun, as is the way the scores are displayed at the end. I was proudly (and much to my surprise) beating NM at the start, but by the end he'd rightly put me in my place. Heh.

I think the ride will appeal to gamers, especially those who like to Wii.

innerSpaceman 06-16-2008 04:18 PM

Which, alas, is why the ride won't appeal to me ... and which is why I'm content to wait out the summer until any crowds die down.

Not a gamer. Have crappy aim. Hate shooting at things. I'm lousy at it. Rides that remind me of this do not become my faves.

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 06-16-2008 04:21 PM

I like games but I'm a crappy gamer. Was delighted to realize I might actually get good at this game/ride eventually. :) I enjoy Buzz, too, but I am CRAP at that. Just awful. My score improves by 100-500 every time I play. I found this to be a lot more exciting and fun. Buzz actually stresses me out, though I like it. I laughed the entire time we rode the Midway ride. Giggles galore.

innerSpaceman 06-16-2008 04:25 PM

Well, I'm cheered by how many folks seem to enjoy it. But at least with Buzz, I can spin around and look at a 3-D environment immersed in blacklite colors.

With Mania, it seems I'd just be starring at video screens if I'm not a player.

I want to ride it. Just in no hurry. Long lines? I'll wait.

Disneyphile 06-16-2008 04:26 PM

There are also some "easter eggs" in the games - special things happen if you shoot certain areas, or shoot a target at the same time as your partner, etc. A CM told us about one, but I've yet to be able to shoot it.

One of yesterday's discoveries:

Spoiler:
If you clear the clouds in the balloon dart game, blue balloons will start falling. If you shoot those "raindrops" they actually mist you with water.

So, the ride has a lot of "4D" elements to it too.

BarTopDancer 06-16-2008 04:35 PM

That explains where that came from! Hehe.

When we rode we noticed that one of our guns was a little off.

Steve, you don't need perfect aim. The targets are large and plentiful. If you were to do sweeping motion while shooting you'd hit a lot.

It's really a beautiful ride with more than just the video screens to look at. After I've gone on it with glasses a few times I want to see what it looks like without. For kicks.

EH - I did notice the tile. I am also concerned about the padding in the cars and on the guns. It seems that kind of padding gets gouged out pretty easily. And I completely agree about the queue. It needs AC. It was pretty bad when we went on it at 8:45pm. I can't imagine during high noon in July or August.

I believe each easter egg does indeed have a 4-D element connected to it. At least based on my 8 rides so far. It also appears they changed some programing with the ending again, at least at Orlando's. Maybe they updatedit based on what slight changes DCA implemented.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 06-16-2008 05:48 PM

Another "Easter egg" is

Spoiler:
in the hoops game. There are Little Green Men on rockets off to the side and when you "hoop" them, they fly by with a blast of air.

Not reading the spoilers yet, but Wednesday I'll be in OC taking my mom to an MD appointment, maybe I'll take the long way home and check this out.

Gn2Dlnd 06-17-2008 03:35 AM

I went on it twice on Saturday - once with a ten minute wait, and the second time, about three hours later, I was asked if I was a single rider and I was moved right onto a vehicle. Didn't even get in line! Definitely a solid D-ticket. I'm not a huge fan of Buzz, this was lots more fun and very addictive. On a 1 - 6 ThinKrisp scale, I give it 5 ThinKrisps!

Disneyphile 06-17-2008 10:43 AM

For some reason on this attraction, I laugh a LOT. It's just silly fun that makes me feel like a kid.

but their is another one in the Little Green Men Ring Toss Game, Hungry Hungry Monster....

Good lord is that ride hard on the arms I had to keep switching hands throughout the ride as one got tired.

Chernabog 06-17-2008 10:54 PM

Yes, ones arm does get tired from doing a repetitive motion in the same position.

Hey, I'm talking about video games! (Doesn't anyone remember ye olde Star Wars game, with the 3d vector graphics?? Jesus my thumbs hurt from that one)

Duly quoted

€uroMeinke 06-18-2008 11:38 PM

I "rode" tonight and had fun, but not sure I'd do the hour wait in the sun again. I was tricked into thinking the queue was short since the ropes along the lagoon were all empty. I was tricked again when I found out the interior queue was not air conditioned. I also was reminded that it's been a long time since I had numerous children repeatedly invading my personal space...

None-the-less, I was glad to have picked up some Mint Chip ice cream on the way, I enjoyed Mr. Potatohead (though admittedly more after the ride when I wasn't rushed passed him in the queue and got to see him pull his own ear off), and thought the game play was much more fun than Buzz. It reminded me of the old mechanical arcade games I used to love when Main Street had an arcade with games custom built by imagineers.

Still, I felt this was more game than ride, the only benefit of the ride being that it prevents people from hogging the games. I'll ride it again, but I suspect once all the Easter Eggs are known I'll ride it as often as I still play Doom.

wolfy999 06-18-2008 11:46 PM

Thank goodness you had Mint Chip Ice Cream...that would make the wait more bearable!

€uroMeinke 06-18-2008 11:55 PM

Another plus, being near the edge of the park, I got full bars and could surf the net while I was waiting
