Goodbye George Carlin, 71

Another legend gone. George Carlin has passed away at the age of 71.

2008 is now hereby known as the year of celebrity death. :( What a huge loss. He will be missed.

Capt Jack 06-22-2008 10:20 PM

oh no!

:( :(

mousepod 06-22-2008 10:21 PM

How sad. He never really lost his edge, either. Just got a helluva lot nastier the past few years. His sensibility will be missed.

Ghoulish Delight 06-22-2008 10:21 PM

Oh sh*t.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 06-22-2008 10:31 PM

Its official - there are no more funny people left alive.

He was my first dirty comedian - though the first time I saw him was on the Tonight Show back in the 1983 and he did his infamouse "Place for My Stuff" bit. I laughed so hard I could not breath.

Damnit.

fvck :(

I love Brain Droppings and his Place For My Stuff skit.

Damnation...
RIP George.
His Baseball v Football sketch was funny, too. For a clean piece of work.

I just said the 7 words you can't say on TV, in his memory. :(

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 06-22-2008 10:48 PM

"****, Piss, ****, ****, **********, Mother****er, and Tits"

Tref 06-22-2008 10:59 PM

Damn, that is sad. I expected Carlin to be around for a long time more. GC was one of the very, very best; few comics can touch the level of that guys work. And he never lost it, Carlin was as sharp in his sixties as he was in the twenties.

Chernabog 06-22-2008 11:00 PM

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I loved George Carlin so much, his books are laugh-out-loud funny.... omg he will be missed :(

BDBopper 06-22-2008 11:04 PM

My absolute favorite George Carlin sketch (on TV). Wonderful WINO Which came natural to George because he was actually a Top 40 DJ in Louisiana. Here's how the sketch sounded on record.

RStar 06-22-2008 11:31 PM

Oh no. Tonights forcast......dark. Continued dark until we see him again in the next world.

Gemini Cricket 06-22-2008 11:32 PM

Losing your favorite comedian hurts.
:(

R.I.P., you crazy mother f*cker.
:)

Motorboat Cruiser 06-23-2008 12:26 AM

I am just so sad. He was one of my all-time favorites and someone who I just thought would always be around. What an immense loss.

Gn2Dlnd 06-23-2008 12:31 AM

Fvck. Fvck fvck fvck!

Celebrity deaths don't usually upset me, but fvck! George Carlin!

Goddammit.

Morrigoon 06-23-2008 02:08 AM

But did he ever find a place for all his stuff?

He must've eaten the meatcake.

blueerica 06-23-2008 05:08 AM

F***

flippyshark 06-23-2008 06:05 AM

My favorite - :(

wolfy999 06-23-2008 06:19 AM

Saw him "live" in Vegas once, funniest show ever! Never heard the fvck word quite so many times in two hours.

He will be missed greatly!

Cadaverous Pallor 06-23-2008 07:39 AM

:( To think that his voice is silenced....sigh.

innerSpaceman 06-23-2008 08:02 AM

Ok, this is now officially getting to me. Celebrity deaths happen all the time ... but rarely has there been such a spate of celeb passings of those I really admire and who's talents I've enjoyed for a lifetime.

George Carlin - - omfrelling G. Sigh. Rare comic genius.

flippyshark 06-23-2008 08:52 AM

For the time being, George's final HBO special, It's Bad For Ya, can be seen here on YouTube. His comments on getting old and on things people say after someone dies are now especially poignant (and still trenchantly funny). This was first broadcast only months ago. As swan songs go, this is good stuff, and precious now that there will be no more.

Edited to add: I will wait a lot more than six weeks before I scratch you out of my book, George!

cirquelover 06-23-2008 11:17 AM

Another great one lost to us. I'm thankful that I have been able to catch his show a few times. He was great live and I will cherish my cd collection too!

It's going to be a bad year for losing great people.

SzczerbiakManiac 06-23-2008 05:22 PM

Well fück, this sucks!
I am stunned.

Just stunned....

CoasterMatt 06-24-2008 07:47 PM

This could well be George Carlin's own eulogy... NSFW

innerSpaceman 06-24-2008 10:52 PM

I don't know about you, but watching that made me feel a whole lot better about him dying.

Kevy Baby 06-27-2008 08:03 AM

This Saturday, Saturday Night Live will be playing the very first episode of SNL featuring George Carlin as the Guest Host (with Billy Preston and Janice Ian musical guests).

This weekend, HBO will be playing most or all (I've heard conflicting stories) of the 14 George Carlin HBO specials.

innerSpaceman 06-27-2008 09:52 AM

Various HBO Channels have been playing those virtually around the clock. I was perturbed to find one I was watching the other night was, omg, not at all funny. But, whew, another one was one a different HBO channel and, to my relief, it was hysterical.

And it was quite different than how we've come to view guest hosts since. Some many years ago I went to the Museum of Radio & Television and pulled up the first SNL episode (along with a few other choice shows), and watched it for the first time. I'd love to see it again, so it's a part of our Saturday night plan.
