CoasterMatthew! In color?! Blasphemy! Me no like colorization of any kind. (Unless that was the way it was shot... but I don't think so.)
:)

Wednesday July 30, not Monday June 30. You have a month to plan.

The film was colorized by the director HIMSELF. He owns all the rights to the film and its soundtrack. This isn't some studio taking a film that was never supposed to be colorized and mucking it up against the director's objections - the film was originally supposed to be shipped out to China and colored by hand, but that was too expensive. This is the way the film is supposed to be seen.

Welcome to the LoT, livinginthesixthdimension!

innerSpaceman 07-14-2008 09:25 PM

Wait, what does that mean, the "way the film is supposed to be seen?" What? Because the director says so twenty years later?

Sorry, but those are famous George Lucas Last Words.

Did the director mean for the film to be in color in its original release or not? I don't give a fig what he thinks now. If he has new ideas, where's his new movie?

(sorry ... badly burned Star Wars fan here.)

So, is anybody else going on Wednesday?

CoasterMatt 07-29-2008 08:13 PM

BTW, they updated the site to include a lil more info about the special discussion afterwards

Quote:

Discussion following with director Richard Elfman and Susan Tyrrell (Queen Doris, Ruthy-Squeezit's mom); Gene Cunningham (Ugh-Fudge Bwana, plays Pa Hercules); John Muto (Animation); Matthew Bright (Toshiro Baloney, plays Rene and Squeezit Henderson and various members of The Mystic Knights of The Oingo Boingo.

Got my ticket!

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 07-31-2008 10:27 AM

Wow, Susan Tyrrell was a diva. Thought I was watching Sunset Blvd.

Great night!

CoasterMatt 07-31-2008 01:30 PM

It was a wonderful night, great crowd, and the color really made the movie come alive.

Oh yeah, Alexis Arquette made a "guest" appearance of sorts.

mousepod 07-31-2008 01:52 PM

I admit that I went into it with trepidation - I'm a fan of the movie as I've already seen it, and don't love the idea of "colorization". However, after Richard Elfman explained that his original intention was to "hand color" the movie (he actually talked about blowing up each frame and coloring it), I acquiesced and realized that Director-approved colorization is as close as we're going to get to his insane vision.

It looked just dandy at the Egyptian, and the crowd was very enthusiastic. The panel, while not entirely enlightening, was nevertheless entertaining.

Glad I got to see Bornieo (that's twice in less than a week!) and CoasterMatt.

Cadaverous Pallor 07-31-2008 03:18 PM

Damn.

CoasterMatt 08-01-2008 07:02 PM

Very happy moment for me...
