Pleasure Island to Close as of September 28th.

Yeah, happy birthday to me this year...

So, the suits at WDW are shutting down PI in a few months to bring us more exciting stores and restaurants!

Did Pressler get rehired or something?

I know that it isn't a popular choice but most nights of the week those clubs were dead. I never enjoyed Adventurer's Club so the loss of that doesn't bother me beyond friends losing something they like.

innerSpaceman 06-30-2008 03:52 PM

Oh, that just SUCKS.

Granted, I haven't been to DisneyWorld in 15 years. But that place was always happening. Mmm, more stores and restaurants ... oh yes, that's JUST what DisneyWorld needs.

Pfft, remind me again why I haven't bothered to go in 15 years.

There are two reasons it kind of sucks to lose The Adventurer's Club. One, it's the only acting job at WDW I ever get called back for. Two, there are a number of banners and plaques around the club that I wrote. Every year, one or two of my contributions go missing. I don't want my legacy to be a couple of duck info plaques at Animal Kingdom.

Gemini Cricket 06-30-2008 04:15 PM

Yeah, bummer about The Adventurer's Club. I wanted to check that out the next time I was at WDW.

Are they still doing the beer song? (Dough, with which to buy my beer...) Last time I was down in 06 I didn't get to go by. It's sad to see it go :(

flippyshark 06-30-2008 05:24 PM

For the time being (until Sept 27) the shows and songs at Adventurer's Club remain much as they always have been, so I'm sure there will be a rush of last-chance parties as the next few months press on. I've got friends and colleagues who perform there, and are distressed at the closing.

CoasterMatt 06-30-2008 05:33 PM

I need an Adventurer's Club here in SoCal - imagine if they served Dole Whips along with Kungalooshs :D

€uroMeinke 06-30-2008 07:31 PM

I guess there's just no market for donkeys anymore.

Melonballer 06-30-2008 07:40 PM

I think moving the Adventurer's club to Downtown Disney might be a really good idea. I'd love to see it there.

BarTopDancer 06-30-2008 07:47 PM

I'm bummed we didn't make it over there last year.

Oh well.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 06-30-2008 09:40 PM

I didn't go into Adventures Club this trip but last time I really had a blast. It started out pretty dull but once I got into the rooms and all the characters came out it was just a hell of a good time. The other things on PI I wasn't interested in going too. I went to Manaquinn last year, which was cool but just not my "style." I'm sure all the CM's who pack the place will be upset, no doubt.

AC must live on, if nothing else...

You could attempt to get some of them for your own personal collection after they close, I know i would be dying to own a piece of my favorite club if it must close forever...

Pleasure Island is Downtown Disney, unless you mean Anaheim... I know too many people out there who wish they had a version.

Make a special trip to see it before its gone! I'm sad because my entire 22nd birthday bash was around that place... and its in oct! now I need to find something to do at nights.

That's the plan!

While sad on paper, the only time I've had real fun in the last 15 years at PI (not including The Adventurer's Club) was when we saw Cheap Trick play the main stage. The clubs and shops were always a bit lackluster for me. If there were a way to save that one experience, I wouldn't be too disappointed to see the rest go.

Is it my imagination, or was there once a place to buy Tabasco-related products? I seem to remember being tickled by that...

blueerica 07-01-2008 09:39 AM

I'll be there prior to it closing this year, so I will have to a.) find out more and b.) try to go. I didn't go the last/only other time I've been to Orlando.

alphabassettgrrl 07-01-2008 09:56 AM

Bummer. I liked the Adventurer's club and I was hoping to get back there. I thought it was a neat little block full of fun things. Granted, it was a Friday night, but everything was packed.

Fab 07-01-2008 11:00 PM

We practically lived there; I recall very fondly Joe R. playing on the floor with Alice, and pointing out to us the "real" artifacts. (Mostly eye level) and the source for others.
