Here are some pics of our rescue kittens:

At the moment, the girl (Torti) is named Trixi and the boy's name changes daily. Today it is Butch but he's been known as India, Cubby, Iggy, Sparky, Finnegan, and Spritle. I'm preferring Butch or Sparky today. Or we can just call him muddface.

3894 07-06-2008 02:17 PM

Good gosh, those kittens are sweet!

My husband and kids thank you for posting those kitten pics on a Sunday, cemeinke. You see, the pound is closed today. I can't go there and scoop up an armful of kittehs to take home.

JWBear 07-06-2008 02:34 PM

I would soooo take one, if our landlord allowed it.

Cadaverous Pallor 07-06-2008 03:14 PM

The baby kitties are killing me. :)

ToriBear 07-06-2008 05:37 PM

Man, it's killing me to not get the blue eyed kitty!! They are ssoo cute!

alphabassettgrrl 07-06-2008 05:56 PM

They're so teeeeeeeny!!! Cute babies.

Kitties and bunnies get along very well. ;)

Gemini Cricket 07-07-2008 10:29 AM

NA, I think you should open your own kitten and cat rescue in Long Beach. That way you can have as many cats as you want, you can make sure they're being placed with the right people and you can make sure they are taken care of before they are adopted. It would be like a Rick's Café Américain for felines.
Just a thought.
:)

I was thinking of a shelter off-site from the Not Afraidameinke residence.
Here are some ideas for names:

Lisa's Kittencaboodle Rescue
Miss Lisa's Cat House
Miss Kitty's Pussy Rescue

JWBear 07-07-2008 10:46 AM

Oooo... great idea, Brad! She can call it "Crazy Cat Lady's Home for Orphaned Kittens".

Snowflake 07-07-2008 11:13 AM

Aw, those little furballs are so effin cute. I want them!
I can't have them, but I still want them.

flippyshark 07-07-2008 11:22 AM

If I were in the area, I would so kit-nap Trixi. (My 12 year old torti would LOVE that, I'm sure!)

Not Afraid 07-07-2008 11:48 AM

Trixie is such a character! She's got loads of personality already and I think Chris is rather smitten. ButchBiffBasilBoy is quieter and a big love bug. He liked to cuddle and be petted while Trixie is all about playing. We heard both of them purr for the first time yesterday and it was so frickin cute! We've been feeding them at the same time - Chris with Trixie and me with the boy. Today I was on my own and you would've thought the one not being feed was about to die from starvation!

I am finding this whole thing to be very satisfying. Who woulda thunk I have a maternal instinct?

I'd love nothing more to have a kitten and pug rescue. It's one of my goals if I ever win the lottery. I was thinking I'd call it Wrinkle WRanch.

Snowflake 07-07-2008 11:56 AM

Oh, I'd have Butch/Basil/whatever anyday. I still miss my snuggly love bug of a boy kitty.

Not Afraid 07-07-2008 12:09 PM

BTW, if anyone wants to come over and see the little fuzzballs, just call. It's not every day you can see and hold 4 week old goodness.

alphabassettgrrl 07-07-2008 01:50 PM

The trick in having a rescue, of course, is that you have to let them go to their new homes!

I'm glad these little guys have good care. They're so cute!

Not Afraid 07-07-2008 09:02 PM

Soooo, the kittens probably deserve their own thread

If you read the soooo thread or the Cute Animal Photos thread or have either Chris or I on Twitter, you know that we are nursing 3 week old kittens. Since the animals that take over my life tend to be the things I talk about most, I decided they needed their own thread.

I'm going to move posts and pics about the kittens here in a sec.

Gemini Cricket 07-07-2008 09:05 PM

Where did you find them?

Not Afraid 07-07-2008 09:22 PM

HA! It took me a while to remember how to move posts. I don't have much need for Admin Action around here. ;)

She found them, brought them into her house, lured the Mom in, put the kittens in a cat carrier so they wouldn't be hidden again, then went out of town and left me with situation.

When I arrived, the kittens had ben without food for about 15 hours. The mom was nowhere around (that I could see) so I got the kittens out of there and brought them to my house where I could get them some food.

That was on Wednesday. We've been substitute kitten mom ever since.

Not Afraid 07-07-2008 09:23 PM

Oh, and their names are Trixie and Rupert.

BarTopDancer 07-07-2008 09:25 PM

Sooo cute

lashbear 07-07-2008 10:38 PM

Customs won't let me bring them into the country...

ToriBear 07-07-2008 11:49 PM

Dang, they are making me think of sneaking over there and taking them! I would love to get one of those fuzz balls, but Sammy would kick my butt then the kittens ( if it was a girl, I would name it Aza. If a boy, it would be Rhys).

wendybeth 07-08-2008 12:44 AM

Look away from the kittehs, missy. Our house couldn't stand much more fur.

Oh, and mom bragging here: ToriBear drew that picture of Namine (KH; in her sigline) freehand.

:)

But I'm in no position to get a cat.
BUT I do know someone who may be interested.

My torty used to be little miss aloof, but as she's grown older, she has become a complete attention slut. Either way, I've been wrapped around her little paw for 12 years now.

Not Afraid 07-15-2008 09:53 AM

My own little bear and opossom are doing good. I've introduced canned food mixed with a bit of formula in a bowl. The result is 2 kittens covered in the formula/food mixture. They don't get that you should just put your mouth in the bowl. They insist on the front paws going in too. Then they fight over food. FOOD FIGHT!

They've grown quite a bit and are starting to play with the toys I've gotten for them. We have to take more pictures.

My Wicket can be a moody bitch, but you have too watch Momma, she can turn on you in a blink of an eye.
Still, Momma is one of my favorites.

Snowflake 07-15-2008 11:24 AM

Tango used to be aloof (her brother was the attention whore). Now that she is Queen Bee, she is the attention whore, par excellance! She has me trained very well, all sorts of kitty commands that I bow and scrape to.

Sigh, the local SPCA has kittens outside for adoption.......I want, and rental agreement prevents. :(

Well, our landlord would LOVE nothing better to force us out, for any reason, they could move us out and rent the place for $3000 more a month. I'm not ready to risk it right now.

So I firgured it out last night we have a total of 16 cats living in and around our house!! I can't afford the food bill let alone vet etc...

Trixie is such a cute little ugly kitten with tons of personality. Rupert has a nickname now. We call him Crusty half the time because he usually has food all over him. It's really fun to watch them explore their surroundings and discover toys.

He's a complete and total sweetheart and is such a companion. He regularly takes naps with me.

It's not like you need another one, but I think he's a keeper. If we were in a house, I'd scoop him up in a heartbeat.

He really has the best purr I've ever experienced with kitties. And, that alone melts my heart.

Not Afraid 08-19-2008 09:07 AM

So, Sunday night I was coming home from pet sitting and there was a kitten sitting in the middle of the street in front of our driveway. I stopped and waited for it to move. When it didn't I got out to investigate. It was completely still and scared to death. She let me pick her up without a problem. When I got her into the car, I noticed she was sniffling. I thought she was sick, but there was blood coming out her nose and her eye was all messed up. I took her in and put her in a crate in the backyard. I didn't think she'd make it through the night, but she ate and was alive in the morning. I took her to my vet's office in hopes they might take her in, but they wouldn't. They did check her out (to the tune of $90). Apparently she had had some sort of head trauma - she'd either been kicked or hit my something or someone below the eye. She's going to be fine with some R&R - which I am handling.

She is fat and gray with tabby stripe legs and belly. She's really sweet and not feral at all. Who knows what her story is. I keep asking her Whats your story, Morning Glory" so a temporary name may come out of that. The other option is calling her Stinky Petunia (I was calling her Stinky Pete before I found out she was a girl).

Now, a word to the God of orphaned kittens.....please stop throwing orphaned kitten my way. You KNOW I cannot leave them to die or fend for themselves - especially if they are injured or have some hope of being a good pet. Also, dear God, I would really like to stay married and this is not helping me one bit.

This bring s the total of cats in my house up to 10. That is WAY too many. I still need to find homes for Rupert and Trixie and Sidney is still around (and probably staying, unless a good home comes through). The authorities will be knocking on my door soon, I just know it. And, sadly, the term "crazy cat lady" is now unavoidable.

God help me.

Snowflake 08-19-2008 09:11 AM

I wish I lived closer, honestly, Tango could use a buddy and a second cat might force my roomie back to Mexico. ;)

Alas, a second cat would also probably lead to my eviction from our evil landlord.

Whether you believe it or not, you are going to end up in heaven, be it cat, dog or even human heaven. Not crazy cat lady, Lisa: Patron Saint of Our Furry Friends in Need

Damn our landlord, and his pet unfriendly wasy! Damn him to hell!

blueerica 08-22-2008 07:13 AM

So, I made the quickest drive-by hello to the Cone-Meinkes last night (partial emergency call from family, which wasn't an emergency really, really... so... ugh!). And I met Petunia.

She's soooo cute and cuddly, and incredibly sweet. Lisa was trying to do some psychological pushery on me, and it may have worked. I just feel incredibly bad about poss taking a cat home because, a.) I'll be gone for the rest of Aug and most of Sep on work and misc trips, and she'd have to be kenneled for part of it b.) our apartment is small and c.) I have no idea how Markus will react to her and I'd be wishing there was more room.

Blah.

Cute, cute, cute, cute kitty, though....

Betty 08-22-2008 10:19 AM

How about you just pick her up when you come back? She could be on an extended sleepover with them until then?

€uroMeinke 08-31-2008 08:17 PM

Not Afraid 12-09-2008 11:07 PM

Our little rascals are getting BIG! Well, Rupert is anyways. Tomorrow Rupert gets to go through the ritual every cat should go through - getting his balls snipped. I bet he wouldn't be perched in my shoulder purring loudly in my ear if he knew what his fate was tomorrow.

Please wish my beautiful black boy luck tomorrow.

alphabassettgrrl 12-09-2008 11:33 PM

Good luck! May he heal quickly.

Cadaverous Pallor 12-10-2008 08:48 AM

Will you get Trixie fixed as well?

Not Afraid 12-10-2008 08:56 AM

Trixi and Petra will be fixed soon. They've got another month or so before the hormones start kicking in. It's important to fix them before that happens, but it won't happen until they're at least 6 months (they're only 5 right now). With boys, you want to get them before they start marking and Rupert was maturing fast. He's almost 9 pounds already (as opposed to Trixi's 6). He's gong to be a big boy - big love bug boy.

Snowflake 12-10-2008 08:58 AM

Good luck Rupert!

They're so cute, any new pics?

Not Afraid 12-10-2008 09:03 AM

I need to take some pics. Rupert looks more like a little cat than a kitten. The girls are still pretty kittenish - Trixi is very tiny and STILL very high energy. Both my bottle babies have turned out to be FANTASTIC cats. Petra - well maybe she'll develop a personalith some day.

alphabassettgrrl 12-10-2008 10:49 AM

I got my cat fixed at 3 months or so. Younger cats bounce back quite nicely.

May your boy heal quickly!

And yes, more pictures of kittehs!!! :)
