Star Trek: the Experience
Again, thanks to the Wil Wheaton blog...
It's closing. Though I've seen and done it more times than probably necessary and wasn't planning on going any time soon, it's still a sad event. :( |
That's a bummer. Only did it once. Loved the Borg one. The original one gave me a horrid headache.
|
We've been to it three times. But each time we just look at the gift shop and the restaurant and decide we're not interested enough to pay $1.3 million for the full experience.
|
Glad I'm heading to Vegas tonight.
|
I'm going to miss Quarks. I really loved the food and atmosphere.
Looks like I have no reason to visit the Hilton again. |
Man, and I never did have a Warp Core Breach...
|
At least according to the article, Paramount is going to try to find a new home for the Experience.
I vote for SoCal. Then, I can have a Borg Sphere anytime I want. ;) I think near Hollywood and Highland would be ideal, and would probably draw the visitors needed. |
Yep, I heard this last night. A bunch of my friends are planning to go before September 1 ... but I doubt I'll make that.
So me and zapp are going to hit it this weekend! Last Hurrah of Don't Live Long but Prosper. |
This is a major disappointment for me.
I've been indoctrinating my kids on Star Trek. We're in the middle of season 3 of The Next Generation. They love it and we've been having a lot of fun watching it together. And with this year's big family vacation being at Walt Disney World, I was hoping to take them to Star Trek: The Experience sometime next year. There's no room in the budget to make an impromptu jump down there before Sept 1. I hope a new home is found. |
I heard about this a bit ago and was sad. When we went to Quark's right after we got married the four of us (me, B, and our witnesses) shared a Warp Core Breach. Loved the look of the drink -- dry ice or something, and a way cool glass -- but it tasted truly horrible, like gatorade. We didn't finish it. But we bought the glass, and I keep flower petals that B has given me in it.:)
|
I'll never see it then... *sigh*
I hears there was some kind of peppers ghost type transporter illusion that happens ? - Nothing on Youtube unfortunately. |
This is kinda old news... there's already been some "presell" of bits of decor.
|
Last time I was in Vegas I stayed at the Hilton, butt didn't do it becasue the only Star Trek I know is from the original series and figured I wouldn't most of it.
|
I wanted to see this attraction just to see how they beamed guests from one place to another. At least, that's what I heard happens...

Hope this finds a home somewhere. |

It's soooo cool! |
I thought about researching it but decided against it.
I was transported for reals. :) |
Well I must say, this is VERY distressing. Very distressing indeed! Someone actually reads the Wil Wheaton blog.
|
Meh, not religiously, Moonie. But, I have found a lot of interesting tidbits on it, and it keeps me coming back.

The following spoiler is not spoiling anything about the effects. I just can't remember something about the Borg experience. Spoiler:

You are standing in a rectangular room with a bunch of other people in the 21st century. There is a bright flash of light, then darkness, then you are all standing in the round transporter bay of the Enterprise in the 24th century. The walls, ceiling, and floor are all completely changed but you experience no sense of motion. And this all happens in less than two seconds. It is an absolutely stunning effect! I took the behind the scenes tour (which I highly recommend, but ONLY AFTER going on the regular version first!) and learned how it is done. It's absolutely brilliant. |
Ya, cause you're really transported!!!!!!
|
The Borg Experience is mostly a 3D movie. Compared to the incredible immersion of the Klingon Encounter, both I and my Mom & Stepdad (neither of whom are Trekkers) were totally nonplussed.
|
I always wanted a borg sphere glass- wonder if I can get one...hmmmmm

The Borg Experience scared me to the point where I had to remind myself it was just an attraction
Klingon Encounter gave me a migraine. That I had to drive back to CA with. Not fun. |
The first time I went was before the addition of the Borg side. You got to go on it as much as you wanted for like $20 w/coupon. I rode it three times in a row cause it was so cool! Then the second time I went, for $35 you got both rides only once. The Borg was cool, but not as much fun as the original. I hope they put it into USH.

I bet I can find Tribbles on Ebay *sigh* I wanted to see this again but my trip to Vegas in October has gone belly up.
|
Make 'em! All you need is fake fur and Styrofoam beads.

Bleh. I felt so bad for your headache. Bad enough to remember it still. |

Confused Universal and Paramount. Darn, it would have been an easy fit, since Universal has a theme park and all..... |

I think the reason that it sucked so bad is because it was the last thing we did before driving back. I still think I shoulda made Shannon drive ;) I was hoping to be able to go on it when I go in August, but the other part of my party can't do Star Tours, so this will be out. |
I was warned on the ride. I reached out to touch the walls to test a theory and got my hand slapped down. I sweet-talked a guy in the gift shop into answering my question. It is definitely a fantastic transformation though I think we were on it before they added the Borg.
Going to Vegas in August - will it still be open? Have to hit it one last time. |
Oh yea! Thanks for starting this thread Blue....
It lead me to an Origional Series Enterprise Model. I've been looking years for one of those. After I deck it out with fiber optics and the like it will take a place of honor in my still to be built theater room. |
Weird, Lani for some reason wants to try and get down there before it closes. So maybe we will do it after all.
Though we'll never dine in the restaurant again. Being forced to converse with someone trying to be a Ferengi was one of the most awkward annoying things I've ever experienced. |
Quote:
I could actually see you doing that. |
LOL- the ferengi when we were there was my favorite. The Borg and the Klingon were painful.

1) Paramount's property, Indiana Jones, at Disney's parks 2) Warner's property, Harry Potter, at Universal's park 3) Fox's property, The Simpsons, at Universal's park 4) Fox's [original] property, Star Wars, at Disney's park 5) MGM's property, Wizard of Oz et al, at Disney's park 6) Sony's property, Spiderman, at Universal's park 7) Fox's property, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, at Universal's park for Halloween 8) Paramount's [original] property, Psycho, at Universal's park 9) MGM's property, Child's Play, at Universal's park for Halloween 10) Orion/MGM/Columbia Tristar's property, Terminator, at Universal's park And that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there's loads more. |
No, to do that would require the very thing I don't want to do: talk to strangers wearing silly costumes.
Plus, why would I go out of my way to make life difficult for some poorly paid teenager or wannabe actor trying to squeeze out a few bucks? I don't blame them for it. Nice to know you can actually see me being an asshole. [As that previous paragraph suggests, I have no problem being an asshole with people I actually know.] |

I should have said that I could see myself doing that as well. |

And he's got that cool clown sweater!
BTW, ThinKrisps were used in an episode of Enterprise as alien food! |

Actually, Spiderman at Universal comes from a licensing deal with Marvel
|
Terminator is Studio Canal's property - what a mixed up crazy world :)

Here's weird. I'm backstage at the Glendale Center Theater, chatting after seeing a show, as you do, and I'm introduced to one of the stagehands as "the guy that makes the cheese crisps." He asking me about my business, I tell him my little story about Star Trek, and he asks, "What was the name of the food stylist?" Turns out she's his adopted grandmother! This sort of thing happens to me a lot. |

Other way around.

No thin krisps at the Star Trek Experience last weekend, but we did get in one last Warp Core Breach. Alas, $100 for the two of us to do the corny attractions got a "No," but it was nice visiting Quarks Bar and seeing the cool environment one last time.

In all seriousness, Alex and I will be heading to Vegas over the weekend to do this. We've been to Vegas several times together and a couple of times, we've been to the LV Hilton with intentions to go see this thing, and always backed out because it cost so damn much. This time to prevent such chicken-ness I pre-purchased the tickets for both of the attractions. |
So when does this go down - Looks like I may be staying at the Hilton 3rd week of October
|
September 1.
|
Well we visited it this weekend.
The Bord 4-D side is juat amazingly lame. Makes Honey I Shrunk the Audience look like the Citizen Kane of the genre. The Klingon Encounter is much better. The teleportation effect is good. Standing on the bridge is neat. The movie is ok but the segment lines of the Soarin' type dome are extremely visible and the show feels very much luck Star Tours. So one half is worth about $3. The other half I'd say $9. So anybody who paid more than $12 for them overpaid. Which is pretty much everybody since it costs $50. But now we know and experienced it for ourself and it can go away because I'd never do it again anyway (and the world revolves around me). |
So what you're saying is I didn't miss much?! I guess I should thank you, being as you're the center of the Earth, silly Alex!
Gary went to the bar there last time he was in Vegas but he didn't join his friends who went in the exhibit. He said he was glad he didn't waste the money from what they said about it! |
