New Joss Whedon Sci-Fi Musical debuts TODAY!

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, The brand-new 3-part sci-fi musical comedy by Joss Whedon and starring Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion has debuted on http://drhorrible.com (free streaming) - and iTunes ($4 for all 3 parts).

Not really related at all but also cool is Darth Mojo's latest Sci-Fi Dance Mix.

innerSpaceman 07-15-2008 09:18 AM

OMG, can't wait till tonight when i get home!!!

LSPoorEeyorick 07-15-2008 09:28 AM

Do the web admins have any idea how many Whedon fans there are? The server crashed before I could get to it!

JWBear 07-15-2008 09:29 AM

Oooooooooo...... Shiny! :D

blueerica 07-15-2008 09:32 AM

Shiny! I'll have to watch it once I get home!

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 07-15-2008 09:54 AM

Thanks for the info!

flippyshark 07-15-2008 09:54 AM

I'm there, sometime next week. I hope Whedon's songwriting will be up to par with the wonderful work he did on "Once More, With Feeling," easily the best episode (of anything) ever.

€uroMeinke 07-15-2008 06:52 PM

I felt a rush of air pass quickly above my head

frodo potter 07-15-2008 07:47 PM

It is back up and running but my player has no picture only sound. Apparently Joss's brother wrote the music for all three episodes so it's a real family affair

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 07-15-2008 07:58 PM

I really do love the music Whedon writes for musicals.

Spoiler:
Didn't love the monologue before the first song, but once the musical kicked in I was sold.

I adore NPH. Adorable and talented.

And yay actress who played the only Buffy Season 7 "Potential" I didn't hate!

Nathan Fillion cracks me up and more than makes up for the fact that his singing voice is passable. It works for his character, I guess. "Lacy, gently wafting curtains." Haha!

And Act 1 ended with my all-time favorite curse word, so YES!

CoasterMatt 07-15-2008 08:12 PM

Who's Joss Whedon? ;)

Heh, yeah. There's this certain corner of sci-fi geekdom that I have not delved into.

This is why I figure I don't belong at Comicon

mousepod 07-15-2008 09:44 PM

You belong. You just don't know it.

One of us. One of us.

I don't want to be a pin head no more

CoasterMatt 07-15-2008 10:05 PM

I got to welcome him to our park a few years ago, I know who he is, and got to see him react to being spotted by rabid fans.

Don't wait 'til next week, for it will be gone with the wind, as if through lacy curtains. This is an online miniseries event that will disappear Sunday night at midnight.

From the Master Plan:
Quote:

"Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog" will be streamed, LIVE (that part’s not true), FREE (sadly, that part is) right on Drhorrible.com, in mid-July. Specifically:

ACT ONE (Wheee!) will go up Tuesday July 15th.

ACT TWO (OMG!) will go up Thursday July 17th.

ACT THREE (Denouement!) will go up Saturday July 19th.

All acts will stay up until midnight Sunday July 20th. Then they will vanish into the night, like a phantom (but not THE Phantom – that’s still playing. Like, everywhere.)
No previous knowledge of science-fictiony things is necessary.

Chernabog 07-16-2008 06:13 AM

^^ Until, of course, it is released somewhere on a DVD. Or is it staying up on itunes ad infinitum?

Also, from the amazingly clickable Master Plan:
Quote:

What happens when it goes away? Does it go to a happy farm for always like Fluffy did when mommy was crying and the neighbor kept washing his fender?

No, Dr horrible will live on. We intend to make it available for download soon after it’s published. This would be for a nominal fee, which we’re hoping people will embrace instead of getting all piratey. We have big dreams, people, and one of them is paying our crew.

And somewhat later, we will put the complete short epic out on DVD – with the finest and bravest extras in all the land. We’ll go into greater detail about that at Comiccon, but we’re changing the face of Show Friendliness a second time with that crazy DVD.

LSPoorEeyorick 07-19-2008 04:43 PM

Sigh. How I love Joss Whedon. How I have missed him. How he touches my bone, my beautiful, painful funny bone. How I have missed yelling "****" at the screen when he hurts me. Perhaps the relationship is a little unhealthy in that way, but... Joss, if you can hear me, I am forever your punching bag.

Stan4dSteph 07-21-2008 01:07 AM

Crap, I forgot to watch this before I went away for the weekend. :(

Ghoulish Delight 07-21-2008 07:18 AM

Finally watched it last night. Fun!

I think the episodes are $2 each on itunes if you still want to see it.

Cadaverous Pallor 07-21-2008 07:43 AM

Heh, I was impressed, by both Harris and Whedon. :snap:

Alex 07-21-2008 09:01 AM

If you liked Falicia Day in this and you have any familiarity with MMORPGs you might also enjoy watching The Guild.

Or, you can buy all 3 episodes for just $4!

I know you give Buffy the pre-emptive thumbs-down, but I really think that given a little time to get into it, Whedon's writing style would slay you.

mistyisjafo 07-21-2008 10:00 PM

I have to say Drhorrible.com had me laughing and I loved it. JW did it again. I'm really looking forward to Dollhouse too!

Hope to see JW at Comic Con on Saturday. Fingers crossed.

I won't be there. Sorry.

flippyshark 07-21-2008 10:42 PM

Joss is da man! I loved this, and will soon be singing its tunes on my way to work. Fun!

Pirate Bill 07-22-2008 01:20 PM

I was far from civilization all of last week so I missed the free viewings. I just purchased the $4 season pass on iTunes and I'm impatiently awaiting the downloads.

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 07-30-2008 07:34 PM

I may need to re-watch when I'm less distracted. I found the 3rd act a bit predictable and underwhelming. I dig it, don't get me wrong, but in the end I didn't love, love, love it. Perhaps my opinion will change when I'm less tired and more attentive.

Gn2Dlnd 07-30-2008 09:16 PM

It's available again today for free on Hulu, just before the DVD release. Apparently there will be more episodes.

Gn2Dlnd 08-04-2008 12:20 PM

Bwahaha! Ha! Bwa-ha!

Young Dr. Horrible. Hysterical. :snap:
