No. Thank goodness.

What is amazing to me is that she is only 84. This, of course, means she was 43 when making Golden Girls.

Thank you for being our friend Estelle.

Maybe a friend to you but she never returned my calls.

As much as I loved Anne Bancroft, I do with Getty had been cast in the filmed version of Torch Song Trilogy, she was terrific onstage when I saw this in NY. RIP Estelle

Sad.

I am a massive GG Fan. :(

Looks like time to re-watch seasons 1-4 that I have on DVD.

I'll see if any others have been released here...

...It's be nice to see a retrospective about her. Can someone please capture it for me if one shows over there ?

Bea Arthur, who played her on-screen daughter Dorothy Zbornak, called their partnership "one of the greatest comic duos", adding: "I will miss her."
Rue McClanahan, Blanche in the series, said: "She'll always be with us in her crowning achievement, Sophia Petrillo."

You almost had me for a minute there but GG wasn't filmed 40 years ago. I remember watching it and I'm not that old, thank you!

She was a funny lady and will be missed!

Alex 07-23-2008 09:46 AM

Yeah, I just meant that she wasn't nearly as old as she played in the show.

The amusing thing, to me, was that Getty was actually younger than than both Bea Arthur and Betty White (by about a year).

cirquelover 07-23-2008 09:55 AM

I didn't know that, she played the old lady well then!

Also, I am over 40 but knew I hadn't watched GG when I was 2 or something like that. I was just trying the math and realized you were playing with us, so I had to comment!
