Excuse me, but I am very unhappy with the classification I was given in the quoted message. I plan on lodging a complaint via official channels in the near future.

You can complain all you want, girlie! I have proof that you're really a very liberal Bush-hater who collects naked pictures of Bill Clinton. It's SO not a lie, and I'll keep spreading it around, regardless of what you do. I'm so not scared of you! So there!!!

Oh, Oh...

Now I'm wondering if it was my technically accurate if somewhat deliberately out of context Nephy quote that started all this.....

Yes, but they continue to refuse to register themselves with the proper authorities to be identified as such.

Nephythys 07-28-2008 11:29 AM

I love that you guys make me laugh about this-

No- it's due to a submitted quote which was clearly submitted for no other reason than to mock me (however inaccurate the attempt) every time it pops up on the top of the screen. It is neither witty nor funny- and it only meant to cause hurt.

I wish to ask to have it removed- and wonder who to ask.

Not Afraid 07-28-2008 11:34 AM

Just to remind you and everyone else - if you say it in public, it is quote-worthy. There are many quotes taken out of context which makes them not accurate but damn funny. My advice - don't take the quote function so seriously.

Betty 07-28-2008 11:38 AM

Hey Neph - at least someone quoted you. I'm not quotable or on the list of kewl people. Woe is me!

Not Afraid 07-28-2008 11:43 AM

Just keep posting......

Alex 07-28-2008 11:48 AM

While I agree that there are a lot of submitted quotes where something is intentionally taken out of context to create humor, I think that is different than taking something out of context (or even just posting the exact quote) in an attempt to ridicule.

One is simple buffoonery the latter is dickish.

That doesn't mean the moderators should necessarily step in and do anything about it. But it is still dickish (however, I have no idea which quote Nephy is talking about so I don't know if I'd agree with her classification).

BarTopDancer 07-28-2008 11:55 AM

I'd like this one removed please. It hurts at the core of my being and goes against everything I stand for.

Thank you.

 :p

Gemini Cricket 07-28-2008 12:02 PM

I just skimmed through some of our quotes. We're funny.

wendybeth 07-28-2008 12:05 PM

If someone wanted to open a thread discussing the Quotes system, fine. Was it really necessary to open one to ask who to complain to about a particular quote, though? I think most of us are pretty aware of the Admin/Mod structure here at the LoT and it just strikes me as a wee bit unnecessary .

BTD- I'm sorry, but you'll have to live with the consequences of your irresponsible posting.;):p

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 07-28-2008 12:23 PM

BDBopper 07-28-2008 12:23 PM

In the list I was unclassified (in other words not listed). Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Maybe it IS a good thing.

As far as quotes I go though them every time I need a good chuckle to brighten my day. We are VERY funny! :)

Alex 07-28-2008 12:24 PM

Just for the record, I would like to state: I'm a buffoon, not dickish. At least in intent. Perception might be another matter. (Unless none of this applies to me in which case never mind.....)

Not knowing the quote in question, I find it hard to believe anyone would quote with the intent to harm you neph. Maybe poor judgement, but I doubt malicious intent.

I believe that I've even been quoted here saying things I've never come close to saying....like "Thanks to the miracle of science, I have the sphincter of a 20 year old.".

Makes me laugh, but i never said it. until now. And if it gets quoted, I suppose it's now legit. If I mention myself being misquoted or denying I said it does that mean I can be quoted as having said it if I reference the quote in question?

IIRC this happened to Nephy right after the quotes feature was introduced. I posted back then -- and still believe today -- that quoting someone with the intent to shame or mock is pretty un-swanky.

Perhaps not, but Neph has interacted with all 4 of those I mentioned in our capacities as administrators/moderators. She knows full well she could have contacted any of us via PM.

Cadaverous Pallor 07-30-2008 09:30 AM

Anything we say here is able to be quoted. If it's quoted out of context, it's supposed to be funny. (There are plenty of quotes that I think aren't funny, or even interesting, but that's all subjective.) If you're not willing to be quoted out of context, don't say anything.

Ok, so here are the quotes that cite Neph:

Quote:

“ Um, if you are decapitated death will NOT be something we need to quibble about. ”
- Nephythys

“ One of the best stupid questions I ever heard-

"What season do deer turn into elk? ”
- Nephythys

“ The chicken and the egg are in bed.....the chicken is happily kickin back, light'n up and relaxed- the egg glares, rolls over huffily and says- 'well, I guess that answers THAT question!' ”
- Nephythys

“ So I guess I get to say JW was right. ”
- Nephythys

“ I am pretty liberal. ”
- Nephythys

“ Today boys and girls we are going to study.....
Barnacle penises!!! ”
- Nephythys
Hmm, from those, I'd guess it's the "I am pretty liberal" one (unless you have a serious problem with being seen as agreeing with JW). Soooo, you're saying the horribly offensive quote that you want taken down is the one saying you're pretty liberal.....which we all know is a joke and would never, ever believe to be true....and we're not supposed to be offended that you are so terribly offended by that joke? Plenty of us have been quoted out of context in saying things that are obviously not true or have a twisted meaning.

Seriously, if you can't take the joke...why do you enjoy visiting a place like this? I am totally mystified.

Nephytys is very much aware who the Admins and mods are around here- to claim otherwise is ludicrous and (with a quick search of past mod/Admin actions and PM's) fairly easy to prove. Again, it just struck me as an attention/stirring sort of post, but I could be wrong. Looking at CP's list, I think Neph's quotes are pretty funny and definitely quote worthy- which one was the offending item?

Snowflake 07-30-2008 09:45 AM

Yeah, and someone quoted me, too, fap fap fap. I remember the thread, I remember asking what that was, so I'm quoted out of context. It's still funny, even out of context.

After this thread was started and I wnet and looked at the quotes by Nephy and assumed the offending quote had been taken down already. Oh well, I see nothing there to get your knickers in a twist about. Far worse things have been said in any number of the political threads that are quote-worthy and not so nice by any number of people on LoT. Oh well, I'm sorry, I don't get what is malicious about anything quoted in CP's list.

Hot Dog! I'm off the hook. The "I am pretty liberal" quote I submitted is a direct Nephy quote. :)

If I can live with the Go Sharks comment (which was taken completely out of context), if Leo can live with the suggestion that he and MBC hook up on a regular basis, or he drives a windowless van...

No one actually thinks what I said is true, no one here thinks you're liberal.

You would also probably be surprised at how unbiased we can be when arriving at a decision, Neph. Most actions are carefully thought out and any personal likes or dislikes are not part of the equation. Except KB's posts, of course. We all tend to agree with regards to those.;)

If that was the case here, I would fully agree, however, it's not the case. Shaming may be unswanky but we have many a quote that is complete mockery - done with a wink of course. Thank GOD most of us have a great sense of humor and can laugh at our failings.

And, I think people need to remember that what you post on a message board is PUBLIC. Once it gets posted it is out of your control.

I'm always careful review each message before I post it to look for potential embarrassing quotes. It's my thing, small as it might be, to be careful about what I post so no one can take any part of my message out of context.

I would tend to agree-like I said, I will write it up and send it on in.

It was not something I said- but something said as an oblique insult to me- and then someone else posted it as a quote so it would continue to pop up.

TTYS about it I am sure. :)

Gemini Cricket 07-30-2008 10:03 AM

Too bad there's no way to hyperlink the quotes in Quotes so it sends you to the thread it corresponds to. That would be swanky.

The fact that this can't be done is a source of grievous frustration to me.

Nephythys 07-30-2008 10:14 AM

Heh- looking at the list I can say I knew GD, Euro and NA were admins and WB was a mod-

The others I had no idea about- and was not sure who took care of what- so I asked. Now I know you all do it “together” so to speak- and won’t forget.

If this was supposed to be a shyt stirrer I would have made it a clearly public fuss- I did not. The difference is fairly clear I would think-

Thanks

Gn2Dlnd 07-30-2008 11:00 AM

Yeah, looking at Nephy's quotes won't get you there. If I understand correctly, it was something someone said in regards to her, and someone else quoted. So, basically, Nephy, the quoter, and the quotee are the only people likely to recognize it, and Nephy and the quoter are likely the only people to know what it means when it comes up. I see her point, but using a public forum to ask that it be fixed is a sure way to get us all talking about it.

Dear Nephy,

The only thing I can add to this huge storm in a teacup (apart from the inclusion of an Animal category Kevy Baby you $hithead) is that you may have given the person that upset you the satisfaction of knowing that they have.

The PM route was the one to use, but I understand that when folks get offended, they don't always see all of the options...and from that perspective, it has been a useful observation.

Love and hugs,

The Stoat XXX (of the category Animal).

PS// No-one ever need worry about me quoting them, because some technical problem with the board's software (or similar) prevents me from doing so...and yes, I have reported it.

So, now Moonie can start a thread asking who he should contact to get this offending quote about him off the quotes page. However, the answer in his case is NOBODY! :p

But you have to admit I've got a case.

I've got at least seven offending quotes and that's just so far today.

I was able to capture the real quote before he edited it.

I got a case of Herpes once.... It wasn't as good as the case of Sangiovese I got the month before....

On that, we can agree.

Ha- Nephy- I just realized what your picture is! It does look like the emotey-cat. :) I don't know how to modify pictures either.

Is this what you were thinking? Or does it need eyes?

lashbear 07-30-2008 10:45 PM

It's the Emoti-candle !!

...needs eyes.

If it makes you feel any better, I don't even see the quotes. You can collapse the field so that it doesn't appear on the main page.

4990 points after about a zillion attempts....

I'll work on that tonight. Last night was mostly spent learning how to make an animated GIF (and I am still not sure what I did).

Dear Key Baby,

Since I'm heavily into 2D & 3D imaging, I've used a truckload of different software, but for making animated GIFs, the ULead Gif Animator is by far and away the one for the job. One particularly handy feature is 'Optimise' which allows you to interactivley reduce the colour palette to fit the finished series into a Kb budget - so my Avatar was compressed to 32k, which is the LoT limit.

A trial version can be found here http://www.tucows.com/preview/194832 , but quite often ULead provide older versions for free, or supply them on CDs stuck to magazines like PC Format etc (in fact I will scrounge around and see if I can find one to send to you).

Love and hugs,

The Stoat (as in Animal Category).

PS/ Sorry for being off-topic here, but I figure this thread will sleep soon.

The Tucows site is not cooperating at the moment. I shall check later.

But it is very rare that I need to make an animated GIF, so I will probably stick with ImageReady for now. I have it and I understand the basics.
