Down in the Park - A Journey through Video

So I have been meaning to post some of this footage for quite some time. But, I wanted to take a moment to assemble it first. That required me first getting a new computer. Then I needed free time, blah blah.

I basically had some video I shot on my little Flip camera at a LoT meet at the park around Christmas last year. It includes some particularly good footage of tall Matt and shots of many of the regulars.

So allow me to present, my crappy little montage.

That's awesome!

Where can one purchase the soundtrack?

JWBear 08-03-2008 06:25 PM

Cool!

It captures that day in its entirety, and I remember it particularly well. The soundtrack is oddly suitable, and I like how it remains linear even as you play with the chronology. Especially liked the effect just before the zoetrope begins, and how psychedelic that sequence was, returning to normalcy by focusing on the expressions on our faces as the animation stilled and we remained delighted.

From us parading through the park to the looks on people's faces as they comprehended (or failed to comprehend) Matt's presence, from entering Small World to rollicking through Big Thunder, from zoetrope to dinner, from the gorgeous shot of the castle to our happy dinnertime expressions and the HAND ON LENS / THE END, it was a fun and lovely video quilt reminder of that day in history. Thank you!

I like how I was replaced by a walkie talkie...neat effect.

Oh, that was awesome. Really and truly.:)

Now, I really and truly miss you all- April can't get here soon enough.

Thanks, NM!

That's one of my favorite Gary Numan songs - who is this cover version by?

Nice video! I'm glad that I can recognize quite a few of you by now.

NirvanaMan 08-03-2008 08:17 PM

Thanks all.

The music is a cover of "Down in the Park" by Marilyn Manson.

flippyshark 08-03-2008 08:23 PM

Ah! That should have been obvious now that you say it. <going to iTunes to download MM version of "Down In The Park">

I loved it!

Ghoulish Delight 08-03-2008 08:29 PM

Your man-crush on Matt has never been so lovingly documented.

But damn was that walk to Big Thunder in his wake one of the most entertaining few hundred yards of my life. NM captured it perfectly, literally 2 out of every 3 people were giving themselves whiplash. It was awesome.

Good times, thanks for that.

BarTopDancer 08-03-2008 08:33 PM

I love going to the park with MattMatt. Reactions are so entertaining. Last time we were there two guys walked past, one said to the other "is that a girl or a dude?"

CoasterMatt 08-03-2008 08:35 PM

Great video - fun times! :D

katiesue 08-03-2008 09:28 PM

Awesome - I was thinking wow everyone looks like they're having so much fun - oh wait there I am. I must be getting senile.

blueerica 08-03-2008 09:55 PM

OH wow.. I figured that I've been gone so long, there was no way I would be in this video. I got over it and watched it anyway ;)

Sure 'nuff, I was there, and it captured one of the best days I had in the park... one of the last times I was there... with some really great friends.

Thanks, NM.

Gemini Cricket 08-03-2008 09:58 PM

Love it.
Nicely done, NM!
:)

cirquelover 08-03-2008 10:06 PM

It won't work for me. Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow.

NickO'Time 08-03-2008 10:15 PM

It was fun too people watch too! Loved watching the "ZoeTrope".

I think my daughter would love it, now that she's older. :)

I was completely confused as to why you were in it but I wasn't. I know I'm camera shy, but that was one heck of a hiding job - all the way in Vegas.

It was the I'm Dreaming of a Swank Christmas meet.

mousepod 08-03-2008 11:15 PM

Great video!

And where the heck was I? Oh, yeah. Working my Larchmont Market on a Sunday. I did get to join the group for the crazy, duelling message boards Jazz Kitchen dinner. There is a picture of me with a spoon on my nose. Verrry swanky.

Wow! What a wonderful day that was. Breakfast burgers (am I crazy or are they not as good as they used to be) followed by the awesome Toy Story Zoetrope which was phenomenal. A quick nearly elevator filling ride on ToT (who where those two other people) that led to screamy goodness. Then off to the real park for the bathroom and locker rides. Always exciting. Another FP run for Space by iSm.

There was some Haunted action, thundery delight and great people watching. Even better, watching (and filming) people watch TheaterTech in his fantastic ensemble that had him looking down upon Maleficent.

Watching the castle transform in a snowy delight then a rush to the Jazz Kitchen where it happened to be a certain MonorailMan's big birthday and all were in attendance, even he whose name is only whispered and gestured.

A sprint by iSm and I (capturing Bornieo in tow locked arm in arm on the way) to make it into the park for the beginning of the fireworks. The LoT others meandered in eventually for a delightfully sudsy conclusion.

A ride on space followed by light watching where the rainbow glasses were clearly trumped afterwards by Jew and Snowflake lenses (particularly spectacular during fireworks). A group photo, farewellagains and a quick departure. Or not.

A sudden change of plans (spontaneity rocks) left Eliza, He Who No Longer Posts, and me in an empty Christmasy Disneyland to enjoy for ourselves for a bit longer. This was perhaps the most magical part of the day. I always love walking around DL when it is empty, and since the 50th, those opportunities seem increasingly rare. But with the Christmas decorations, a chill in the air and the wonderful company and passionate insider stories shared while walking about and taking it all in. Well it was a delightful cocktail indeed.

Quite the nightcap to a fantastic day.

Wow it is weird to go back to the old thread and see all of the comments.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed. Perhaps I need to do more of these sorts of things. It was fun making it.

Kevy Baby 08-04-2008 11:14 AM

Makes me sad that I did not make it :(

ToriBear 08-04-2008 11:29 AM

Awe, that looked so much fun. Now it's making me want to go there really bad. April just can't come soon enough. :(
