Earworm!
(Yes, I know there was a "the song in my head" thread before, but it's from like 2005...)
So what's stuck in your brain right now? All morning I've had "Younger Than Springtime" from South Pacific. Why? I have no idea, it's not like I watched it or heard it anytime recently. But somehow my brain fell on "Happy Talk" this morning, and that branched into "Younger Than Springtime", which has now been plaguing/entertaining me for hours. |
Remember, you asked ...
|
Wow, I used to see clips from that number constantly when I had to work in the preshow at The Great Movie Ride.
(C'mout, c'mout, the little stars are peekin', waitin' for ya to commence Uh-huh, uh-huh, I kinda thought you'd weaken, sittin' on a backyard fence) Actually, I really like Footlight Parade a lot. |
Before I started reading this thread, the tune in my head was "Bellboy" from The Who's second big rock opera/ song cycle Quadrophenia.

In case anyone cares... Younger Than Springtime and Happy Talk
(bonus: the man in the second one - from the original film - is SUPER hot, shirtless, and wearing tight shorts. Totally SFW though) And since I feel like sharing the South Pacific earworm, you'll never get this one out of your head, heheh. |
Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush"
|
I have some classical tune I'm sure I should know the name of that was on someone's caller tune.
|
"The Ballad of John and Yoko"
But just the intro part. |
This is the song I have in my head.
There are a lot of really stupid cartoons out today and the quality overall has gone down the toilet compared to the cartoons we grew up with and before that. Phineas & Ferb are an exception. The premise of the show is relatable (two kids figuring out what to do on a day of summer vacation and an older sibling trying to ruin it). The plot is whimsical but isn't random and makes sense (in other words it doesn't seem like the writers were high on something while creating the show). That's very difficult to do when the writers have put in a side story to each episode revolving around the secret agent activities of their pet platypus. I know without seeing a full episode it sounds silly but you'll figure it out quickly. Whether you like it or not you have to give the writers credit for coming up with a song for each episode and the musical styles and genres used are very diverse. |
Every time I read the title of this thread the Inchworm commercial song goes through my head. "inchworm, inchworm I love you"
|
See, there's an advantage to me completely disinterested in music. Near total earworm immunity.
|
Bear always tells me to think of "Happy Birthday to You" when I get stuck on a song...which is ironic since it has plagued me once a year for 49 years. Yah just can't win, can yah?

It was the end of the commercial and the way it was sung in the commercial gives a definite finality to whatever is running through your head. |

"Bi Men" have always been a distraction - particularly down under. |
The name on everybody's lips is gonna be...
Roxy! The lady rakin' in the chips is gonna be... Roxy! |
The Boy put in our Smashmouth CD yesterday, while in the car. If it were up to him we would listen to it every time we go somewhere. Once again I have "Holiday" in my head.
|
I've had "Skullcrusher Mountain" by Jonathan Coulton for the last few days. I don't mind though.
|
Mannah mannah*
*I blame mouepod for that one. |
Well, whatever was in my head before, I just forgot it - thanks, GC!
|
I have every song from The Drowsy Chaperone stuck in my head right now.
Mostly because I was given a live cast recording from a dear friend and I've been listening to it from start to finish, nonstop, over and over, for the past 6 days. |
I Have A Dream - sung by Amanda Seyfried (Soundtrack to Mamma Mia! the movie)
|
"You'll Go Far Kid" by The Offspring It's catchy:

They covered the Miley Cyrus song - "See You Again" |
I've had "pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka in my head all morning. :(

I can't believe how persistent "Happy Talk" is. Torture when you're on the phone all day.
|
"bang bang Maxwell's silver hammer..."

|
Thanks to CP, I have "Bolero" in my head
:D |
Layla...
Ya got me on my knees, Layla... |
Aw, cr@p! Somebody's stupid (country music!) caller tune is now my earworm!
"If I had a million dollars... I'd build a treehouse in the yard... if I had a million dollars..." Auuuuuuuuugh! |
I have avoided this thread because the words ear and worm should never go together...

My earworm this morning is "Spanish Flea" by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass
|
Tonight's (this morning's?) random earworm:
You'll never walk alone - from Carousel (And I chose that particular clip for it because it's got a not-so-hidden Mickey in it, and any opportunity to hotlink Englebert Humperdink is a must, IMHO, haha) edit: Oh no, I simply can't resist linking Tom Jones singing it on a light-up disco floor! And I do believe that's a mirror over his head! |

I think this qualifies: I heard Elton John's Rocket Man and I couldn't help but think of William Shatner's rendition.

Currently have 9-to-5 stuck in my head. Maybe if I start contemplating the state of my loony bun I can get Dolly Parton's voice out of my head.
|
I've been waking up to one or another of Ben Folds' new songs. "You Don't Know Me," and "Cologne."
|
I've had the Yo gamma gamma song with that hobbit guy going through my head since last weekend.

Lets just say that I don't give a flying fvck why birds suddenly appear.
|
Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near? Just like me, they long to be Close to you. Why do stars fall down from the sky Every time you walk by? On the day that you were born and the angels got together And decided to create a dream come true So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold And starlight in your eyes of blue. That is why all the girls in town Follow you all around On the day that you were born and the angels got together And decided to create a dream come true So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold And starlight in your eyes of blue. That is why all the girls in town Follow you all around |
You are pure evil.
|
I gotta be pure at SOMETHING
|
I have the song "Spanish Harlem" in my head, and I can't get rid of it!
|
I have the song "Hare Krishna" from "Hair" stuck in my head at the moment...
"Take trips, get high, laugh, joke and goodbye Beat drum, an old tin pot, I am high on you know what..." |

I saw an interview with the leads of the Broadway Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and they were asked if they liked the title song. It was clear from their gritted teeth and squinting expression that they were VERY unfond of that ditty by the time of opening night. So, will doing the show make you weary of hearing Hair, or will it stay on your playlist? |
I don't think I could get tired of "Hair". I think it's because there's like 32 songs in the show.
:) |
Oh Chitty, you Chitty, pretty Chitty Bang-Bang, Chitty Chitty Bang-Bang we love you, High Chitty, Low Chitty, Everywhere we go Chitty, Chitty Chitty Bang-Bang loves us too.
Miracles from molecules, are dawning every day (Chitty Bang-Bang, Chitty Chitty Bang-Bang) Chitty. |

I passed by someone's office awhile ago. Margaritaville was playing on their radio. Now, it's stuck in my head.

No Future No Future... |
I've been waking up with the most GODAWFUL songs in my head every morning. The "wonderful" artists range from Journey to Christopher Cross. I think Dreamland needs to change the radio station. I have better musical taste than that!
|
I think you are secretly a Jordan Brothers fan
|
Do you mean Jonas Brothers?
|
See - I KNEW it.
|
The earworm of the day?
Smack My Bitch Up ~ Prodigy :D |
This morning it was Florence and the Machine - Kiss with a Fist
|
WHY?
This song was always a vicious earworm, but I hadn't thought of it in years. Why today?
Player -- Baby Come Back |
|
I've had "Somewhere" from West Side Story in my head all morning.
There is no place for them in my brain. Go away! |
For better or worse, I have a demo tape from an artist whose record I'm releasing later this year. The guy's day job writing kid's cartoon music and jingles. Needless to say, of the seven songs he's given me so far, there are seven earworms. As catchy as the music is, his lyrics are a little... odd... so I've found myself walking through Trader Joe's singing "Lighters up and engines on!" or, "We're all drowning in blood!" Hmmm.
|
The opening notes of Bohemian Rhapsody were paraphrased in a program I was watching and now I can't get the sone out of my head.
|
"You all everybody.....you all everybody...."
|
"M-m-my telephone. M-m-my telephone!"
|
"Oh, we're the boys of the chorus, we hope you like our show,
We know you're rooting for us, but now it's time to go" |
|
I've had the theme from Petticoat Junction in my head since I got up. Of all the unholy things that could have vomited forth from the depths of hell, why this?
|
I had to go look up "Freebird" on the youtubes last night, so, "If ah leeeave heah tomooorrooow..." is my morning mental soundtrack.

Haha, awesome!
|
I have the guitar part of Jack Johnson's "You and Your Heart" stuck in my brains right now.
|
My brain has been replaying track two of Marcel Marceau's Greatest Hits CD lately.
Actually, I wish I could - I could use a little cranial down-time. |
Working "Spamalot" this morning, I've had a lot of things in my head. Some of it from Monty Python, some from Camelot, and then random things.
Much better than the "1-800-cars-for-kids" song that was yesterday's mental juke-box. |
"The Tapioca" from Thoroughly Modern Millie.
