Auto Graveyards
I do not know why I have a fascination with decrepit cars. I do. I'm fascinated by pics of them, a single rusting truck in a Virginia pasture, a chassis in the desert, a car museum with pristine cars, I love them all.
I came across this place due to a pic in an article referring to something else. Also a blog with more pics can be seen here. Hazzardous or not, it makes me sad to see that this will go. I hope more pics show up, some of those old decrepit cars are pretty cool, even as rusting shells. |
Sights like these always depress me; to see all those beautiful cars wasting away. I try to remain optimistic but I know the inevitability of situations like this.

I overheard someone the other day talking of a hike in Fryman Canyon (off Mullholland a bit west of Laurel Canyon) that features a variety of decrepit cars from various eras that ran off the windy road and were left to decay. They've got trees and vegetation growing through them, and that sounds like a fun sight to see. I hope to check it out soon.

Those are great pictures. Sure, I'd like to see them all restored to their former beauty, but at least they are still around. If you go to the local Pick a Part around here, you won't see many cars older than 10 or 15 years old, anything older goes to the crusher. I know they have some older junkyards back east, they would be fun to visit.

Seems as good of a time as any to remind people about Cadillac Ranch (for those who are not familiar with this piece of Americana)
|
I thought it would be a photo of my grandmothers back yard. It's got at least 3 possibly 4 dead International Trucks. Yea we're not a Ford or Chevy family, Internationals.
I think my mother's old Pontiac is stil wasting away at my Great Aunts house as well. |

I took a couple pictures at the site where they shot M*A*S*H. There's a Jeep and an ambulance rusting. Kind of interesting and kind of sad.
![]() ![]() Let's see if it works this time. I have the hardest time posting pictures... |
pfft. a little paint and some bondo and those are good as new.
![]() Im impressed how good the bikes look after all this time though. ![]() |
oops! More pics here

Hahaha!!! Getting to this side of the park was a challenge- we had to go through the Creek O Doom. Though since it's a little tamer now than it was, the guys call it the Creek of some sadness. It's still got boulders and lots of rocks, but it's got some fill in between them now. Getting a bike through is still somewhat... interesting.

The Blue line passes over several junk yards on the way between Long Beach and LA, perhaps I should take some pics.

Ah, yes, it takes me back to 1965 when I helped my father push his 1956 Chevy into a vacant lot in Queens.
And then we left. I don't remember if we took the subway back or if Mom had followed in the brand new, enormous '65 Impala that she soon grew to hate. |

Yes, but white. And I think that picture cuts off about half the trunk.

A tear drips down my cheek, slowly, like wax on an elongated candle.
