Free on your birthday

I thought this was BS till I saw the source (OC Register)

libraryvixen 09-18-2008 03:14 PM

You and I must have done this at the same time! lol

BDBopper 09-18-2008 03:55 PM

Somebody pinch me I must be dreaming!

Disneyphile 09-18-2008 03:58 PM

Be sure to go register your birthday at www.disneyparks.com.

Apparently, you must register in order to receive the ticket.

BarTopDancer 09-18-2008 04:10 PM

And perhaps the system is currently overwhelmed, but the registration page has no fields to enter any information.

Maybe I'll try again in the dead of night.

If I'm already registered with their lameass website, do I have to register separately for this??

Andrew 09-18-2008 05:20 PM

You have to add your birthday to your existing registration. It took several reloads but I managed to finish it.

BarTopDancer 09-18-2008 05:54 PM

Let's see. I can have a super special fastpass or $89 to blow at the park. Which do I choose. Though I'd be interested in hearing what the "select merchandise" is.

CoasterMatt 09-18-2008 05:54 PM

Awesomeness.

Stan4dSteph 09-18-2008 06:01 PM

My birthday is in the middle of peak season. I doubt I'll be making a trip for this. It's a cool promotion though.

Gemini Cricket 09-18-2008 06:11 PM

Slowest website on the planet = Disney.com.
I registered.
Gimme gimme gimme!
:D

Alex 09-18-2008 06:15 PM

I'm still burned out. I don't think I want to go to Disneyland even if it is free.

madmonkeygirl 09-18-2008 06:18 PM

I registered awesomeness. My birthday is on a Saturday i think so double awesome planning on taking the weekend off too. Not sure what i want though either fastpass or else $$$ to spend on merchandise lol ha...free stuff is always good.

NirvanaMan 09-18-2008 06:37 PM

Awesome. Registered. Free stuff is good.

BarTopDancer 09-18-2008 06:47 PM

Registered though I think I'll be in NY for my bday next year.

innerSpaceman 09-18-2008 07:04 PM

I'm gonna try registering later, but I'm for sure taking the free ticket. If I renew my AP, I'll take a non-APer to the Park with me and we'll have fun 'cause they won't have been in a long time.

If I don't ... I could use the ticket myself. Do I have to use it on my birthday? Because if I could save it 2 weeks till Disneyland Birthday, the chances of me buying an AP next year go down to near zero.

BarTopDancer 09-18-2008 07:21 PM

It sounds like whatever perk you choose has to be used on your birthday.

CoasterMatt 09-18-2008 07:24 PM

the free 1 day ticket can be used any one day before your next birthday

belleh5 09-18-2008 08:38 PM

I just signed up. I am waiting to be approved

Oops!! Thanks!!!

Disneyphile 09-19-2008 12:07 PM

And bring on the tacky!!! This might make the ol' plastic technicolor "dream swans" look like classy decor...

Full Story

...this is a program that will be noticeable the second you come into the park. There will be banners — “Celebrate today” — that will kind of give the guests a whole festive sense of arrival. Cast members will also receive special training. There will be parade stops when they call out “everybody who’s celebrating a birthday, come into the parade,” and other entertainment events...
I wonder if they'll bring back the capes and tutus from POTS...

BarTopDancer 09-19-2008 12:11 PM

There's rumors that they will be launching a payment plan for AP holders in SoCal. There is a link on the Pad but nothing to a Disney site yet.

Stan4dSteph 09-19-2008 12:17 PM

When you register you have to pick which park you will go to. I have to decide DL or WDW.

Snowflake 09-19-2008 12:18 PM

Well, I registered. It's been too long since I've been down, and maybe the odds will be better I can actually make it down in time in 2009. No extra $$ to renew the AP this year, either. :( very sad cheese over that.

Chernabog 09-19-2008 12:28 PM

However, if they have the "HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" song going on when you enter the gates, my head may explode (after I cry like a Japanese schoolgirl).

Sea World has that, and it's wonderful. It is an automatic debit that is contracted for a minimum of one year, and then you can cancel anytime after that.

Disneyphile 09-19-2008 01:06 PM

Oh, and according to the thread at the Pad, the free birthday ticket can be used towards an AP purchase.

The 12-month payment plan goes into effect on Nov. 4th, 2008 for all new APs, and then January 1st, 2009 for renewals. A "down payment" of a single day ticket will be charged immediately, with the remaining balance broken down and automatically charged to the card on file over the next 12 months.

Something tells me the park is gonna be crowded next year!!!

I wonder if they'll raise the cost of APs though, since they'll be more affordable now.

Morrigoon 09-19-2008 01:11 PM

The parade thing sounds like a baaaaad idea. Although I guess they've had success with guests joining in during the BPB and stuff. I just see tons of pitfalls for parade CMs, and issues with getting them to sit back down after so the floats can move.

Morrigoon 09-19-2008 01:12 PM

nah, I'll bet they raise the cost of APs.

innerSpaceman 09-21-2008 07:42 AM

Heheh, i finally remembered to register. Hmmm, it says my ticket's only good on my birthday. Oh well.

This is a brilliant promotion. Who goes to Disneyland alone on their birthday? More guests spend more money.

Not Afraid 09-21-2008 10:32 AM

Not only that, but they get to capture a TON of information about people with nominal cost.

innerSpaceman 09-22-2008 08:27 AM

Well, I haven't been to the Park in forever, so I don't know if they're promoting it there. But if not, who will ever hear of this besides APs? And the only further info they got on me was my birthdate.

I need to do some Haunted Mansion research, so I'll be heading to Disneyland one of these days soon. I'm curious to see if this birthday thing is being promoted at the Magic Kingdom.

2009, the Year of a Million Birthdays!

katiesue 09-22-2008 08:36 AM

I'd guess they won't start promoting it until next year as it doesn't start till 2009. Otherwise people will start showing up now.

Chernabog 09-22-2008 08:53 AM

I hope ODV accepts those gift cards, because I still never got my free churro. You damn disney apes!

Isaac 09-22-2008 10:10 AM

I think one of the new odv stands across from Midway Mania accepts credit & gift cards and sells churros.

Ruthie 09-24-2008 01:05 PM

I was already registered at the Disney site but I signed up for the free birthday ticket. So far I have not gotten an email. Do you only get the email for registering at the site? or do you need a confirmation email for the free b-day ticket?

Sorry if I am being dense here. I keep rereading and have gone back in and re-entered the b-day info and yet no email. Even checked my spam box for it.

So short of the long question . . .do I need a printout of some email to take with me to the gates to receive the free ticket?

Morrigoon 09-24-2008 01:29 PM

(Warning, derail ahead)

Haha, I'd forgotten that one. My favorite is, "I think so Brain, but where are we going to get Lederhosen at this time of night?"

You don't need to register to get your benefit. You just show proof of birthdate on the day you will be there to receive your benefit.

And the money for the flight and a little spending money is all that I am probably going to need. That will be a cinch to get by next September! Which means you can almost write it down in stone in the calendar! :D

alphabassettgrrl 09-24-2008 04:47 PM

Cool! It'd be great to meet you and spend time at the happiest place!

Actually, I just made that one up. If it was an actual one, it was purely coincidental (or a very latent memory).

CoasterMatt 09-24-2008 05:10 PM

Here's a list of the "Are you pondering what I'm pondering?" segments.

Quote:

"Are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
Umm, I think so, Brain, but what if the chicken won't wear the nylons?

"Are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but we're already naked.

"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but what kind of rides do they have in Fabioland?
Those are a few of my favorites :)

Sure sounded like one. But I don't remember for sure.
