:( my cheese and me are way beyond sad.
Dammit, I have a NJ friend here arriving on the 13th and out the following week. Of all weeks for her to come and visit!

I will never swank again......:(

Chernabog 09-24-2008 03:53 PM

I shall be there.

I think the party should be the first entry in GC's fabulous blog about his new life :)

BDBopper 09-24-2008 04:16 PM

Sorry I can't be there in person to wish you well for the big send off. :(

That's very nice of you, Lisa to host his party! You Rock!

innerSpaceman 09-24-2008 04:18 PM

I will provide the surf's up Ocean, because that's how much I will be crying towards the end.

I know what ya mean. I've been looking forward for many moons to meet our lovable GC. It makes my heart sad that I may not get that chance or the pleasure. However I am happy that he has been blessed with this awesome opportunity to travel the world!

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 09-24-2008 04:41 PM

I think ISM should bring a eucalalie and play the farewell song...

JWBear 09-24-2008 04:45 PM

Bill and I will be there!

Thanks for the spelling correction, and I'm certainly short enough for the moniker "tiny tim"

madmonkeygirl 09-24-2008 05:15 PM

Not sure i can make it. Depends on my work schedule. Of course i either open or close that day. If i open then we will be there. If i close have a closing shift then i won't be able to come. But if i can't come then have a nice time regardless. I will have my own saying goodbye er so long for now never goodbye for good party on Halloween with him.

Stan4dSteph 09-24-2008 05:26 PM

I will be in MA staff meetings, but I hope you have a grand old time! Perhaps I can say Aloha and bon voyage on Friday.

Wouldn't miss it for the world.

katiesue 09-24-2008 06:02 PM

I'll be there with the Swanie's in tow. Hey I'm their ride so they're coming they just don't know it yet.

wolfy999 09-24-2008 06:04 PM

I'll request the time off and see what happens...I sure don't want to miss saying goodbye (aloha) to GC!

Gemini Cricket 09-24-2008 06:23 PM

I'm very excited.
:) <----big smile

Cadaverous Pallor 09-24-2008 06:29 PM

(psst, Doc - do you have an amazon wishlist?)

lashbear 09-24-2008 08:24 PM

Stoat & I will be there via Skype. We wouldn't miss THIS bash for the world.

...can you get Lei'd via Skype?

€uroMeinke 09-24-2008 09:15 PM

I wonder what tiki cocktail I can make with cognac...

My wish is for you both to be present.
If anything, I should be asking you two that question. I owe you guys for taking me in.
:)

belleh5 09-24-2008 10:01 PM

What?! I had no idea that GC is leaving:( I'm so out of the loop.

If thats the weekend of Mouseadventure, I'm so there!!

BarTopDancer 09-24-2008 10:40 PM

I wouldn't miss it.

BDBopper 09-25-2008 04:54 AM

Wait...I can be there via Skype can't I? ;)

mousepod 09-25-2008 08:49 AM

There. So there.

Gn2Dlnd 09-25-2008 09:18 AM

The Commodore looooves bon voyages!

What? The Commodore isn't the one pulling away from the shore? Fine. The Commodore grudgingly accepts your invitation to the worst bon voyage ever.

Mousey Girl 09-25-2008 11:00 AM

I am going to do everything in my power to make it!!

SzczerbiakManiac 09-25-2008 11:22 AM

Count me in

Chernabog 09-25-2008 01:02 PM

I am there -- we're gonna have to have an All About Eve-off you know. Fasten your seatbelts. ;)

I can create one for myself and you can buy me stuff if you like - I won't object!

Gemini Cricket 09-25-2008 06:49 PM

I would like to make an announcement of sorts.

Although I am completely flattered and all, no gifts please. The party is for all of us to get together and have a good time. I have quite a bit of stuff I need to either pack, donate or sell at this point and shouldn't add to the pile I have already. I don't want to sound ungrateful, fake or anything like that. But I sincerely appreciate the thought. The only thing I request is that we truly try and make the Skype thing work. It was such a hit last NYE.
:)

I can't wait to see everyone in their Aloha wear!

Kevy Baby 09-25-2008 06:56 PM

I would like to make an announcement of sorts.

libraryvixen 09-25-2008 10:38 PM

I will definitely try to make it! I'll be in town for MA! :D

Not Afraid 09-25-2008 10:39 PM

OOOOOHHHHHH!!!!!

It's MA Weekend.

D'oh.

Not Afraid 09-25-2008 10:48 PM

Pssst. Gift Cards would be the way to go. They don't have Target in HI but on0line ordering is possible as is the same from Amazon.

(They do have Walmart but I would NEVER suggest anyone go to that vile place - even for GC).

Snowflake 09-26-2008 08:17 AM

Thanks NA, I was wondering if Target was on the Islands.

I will try to be there for skype, if I can't manage to get rid of my NJ friend! I really do not want to miss this! if it has to be by skype, so be it.

Mousey Girl 09-26-2008 01:01 PM

I finally get to try for Swankness!

Mousey Girl 09-26-2008 03:43 PM

Ummm... With a kid like The Boy, do you really think I would let them lapse?

wolfy999 11-02-2008 09:49 AM

I get to go also! Is this a Wolfette friendly kind of party?

RStar 11-02-2008 10:16 AM

The nice thing about the online community, is that when someone moves from one state to another, they can still be a part of our community here on LoT!

It sucks for those that visit in person of course.

Best of luck in your move, GC! May it go well for you!

And Chris, you better shore up the walls of that house before the party. And Lisa- find a safe place for all the critters! ;)

tracilicious 11-02-2008 10:37 AM

I'll be here in AZ that day moving to my new place. I wish I could be there to meet GC before saying goodbye to him!

Good luck on the move.
I'm sure I will be around lots even after the move.
We'll get a chance sometime.
:)

madmonkeygirl 11-02-2008 05:44 PM

I'm not sure if i can go or not dedpends on my work schedule as always Saturdays are almost impossible for me if i end up closing shift. As it is i was in HOT water asking for the 3 days off for Halloween and if it wasn't for Erik's 30th birthday party i would have worked Saturday so.

As it is Brad i hope i get one more chance to say goodbye. If i miss the party you and i can go to lunch or something maybe before you leave possibly. I'd like to just one last bye kinda thing. It was great having you at Haunt and at my parents house even though i was spending it babysitting my nephew most of the time.

Not Afraid 11-08-2008 11:55 AM

Reminder: Next Saturday. If you need my address, PM me or Chris.

Gemini Cricket 11-08-2008 01:38 PM

I can't wait to see everyone there.
It's going to be a blast!
:)

BDBopper 11-08-2008 02:16 PM

Will there still be Skype connectivity available for those not lucky enough to live in SoCal?

I wish I could be there, but also wish you were not leaving, GC. But I am happy for you at the same time, if that makes any sense at all.

Gn2Dlnd 11-08-2008 10:14 PM

Wow, proposition 8 passes and this guy moves out of state. That's one principled 'mo.

Morrigoon 11-09-2008 05:03 AM

May (likely) be there late. Of course, with this LoT, it'll probably still be going on. :)

(Gotta work)

Not Afraid 11-10-2008 01:21 PM

Any last minute takers, please do the poll. I need to order food.

Morrigoon 11-10-2008 01:27 PM

I work till 10:30, if the party will still be going on, I will arrive at some point after that.

SzczerbiakManiac 11-10-2008 01:43 PM

I will be there, but I need to leave around 10:00pm. :(

Just curious, will this be the fourth or the fifth going-away party for Gemini Cricket??

:p

BarTopDancer 11-10-2008 02:10 PM

I will probably not be there. In anticipation for this chance, I've said my goodbyes to GC and ensured a safe visit to HI in the future.

I don't believe that Susan has voted yes (I have no way of checking, but I know she hasn't logged in for a while), so you need to add her to the count.

Prudence 11-10-2008 02:27 PM

I voted yes, but will probably be bringing another.

lashbear 11-10-2008 02:37 PM

Stoat will be up the coast, but I will be in Skype attendance. Make sure there's Cheesy-mite scrolls. Fanx.

alphabassettgrrl 11-10-2008 04:44 PM

I won't know until closer, but I do hope to be there and to bring my hubby. I hope.

bewitched 11-10-2008 08:29 PM

Since I live halfway across the country I obviously can't be there. On the bright side for me, as long as GC doesn't abandon LoT, it'll be the same as always.

Still, I wish you a fantastic Bon Voyage and best wishes on the start of a wonderful adventure. I hope someday I am privileged enough to meet you in person. :)

katiesue 11-11-2008 07:56 PM

I'm out, unfortunately. Hopefully I can catch up with you before you leave.

madmonkeygirl 11-11-2008 08:51 PM

Matt and i will show up "fashionably late" considering i work til 7pm in the west valley Woodland Hills then rush home, change and rush over as soon as we can get there. Wouldn't miss saying goodbye to GC.

Mousey Girl 11-13-2008 08:32 AM

I made cookies and will be making fudge either tonight or tomorrow.

Since finances are tight, this is what I do for people I wuv.

We've also got some people in town that will be in the Disneyland area. I don'tknow how many of these folks have transportation (Swanie, Steph, etc). If any of the Disneyland-bound people would like to attend, is there someone they could catch a ride with?

You can sit up here in the sad but glad bay area wishing we could hug him goodbye with Missy and me...but I have faith that this new job is going to be so incredible he'll be able to afford a trip back to the mainland every once in a while and meantime we'll get to hear about his travels.

JWBear 11-15-2008 12:25 PM

With the winds and the smoke in the air, it's really going to feel like an end of the world party tonight.

BDBopper 11-15-2008 12:37 PM

Yikes. Stay safe everyone!

Not Afraid 11-15-2008 01:14 PM

It's pretty smoky smelling here and the sunlight has that weird quality that I always find really creepy. At least we're located in an area that is pretty safe fire-wise. However, maybe I won't be lighting the Tiki Torches tonight.

lashbear 11-15-2008 02:10 PM

With all the Skype activity, I might hold off attending until about 9pm PTO or whatever it's called. This will ensure best use of bandwidth to maximise transmission. Nothing worse than a conversation that sounds like:

"A.. ..oha ....em... .C...ket ......ame ....ing.... ....but I'd love to ...... you .....time."

Not Afraid 11-15-2008 03:10 PM

She called me a while ago and I gave her your number. She said she wasn't sure about making down because of the fires. I will PM you her number.

Also, I am not sure about us due to the fire near us. While I am sure we will be okay, I may want to stay close to home for a while. We'll play it by ear.

Lisa needs to get a wireless hotspot in the back yard. :D

...and can't wait for DP's New Year Extravaganza. Which is like Organza, but with more extravins.

A few highlights of the party:

Cheeseman has musical pants.
The neverending macaroni salad defied the laws of physics (or gastronomy).
It snowed in the back garden.

:)

Here are the pics I took last night:

I had such a fun time.
Kinda dragging today, but hey it was worth it.

Those are awesome Brad! It looks like an awesome party!

belleh5 11-16-2008 03:06 PM

Thanks for posting pictures!!! Sorry I didn't log on to skype last night. I was having 2 year old issues.

madmonkeygirl 11-16-2008 06:05 PM

It was a blast. I'm so glad that my manager let me go home an hour early. She rocks. Damn smoke though. Dragging today and glad i'm inside with a/c on. So glad i was able to make it. :)

Mousey Girl 11-16-2008 06:28 PM

Like I said I really tried. The litteral turning point for me was when I saw the port-a-potties set up on the side of 126.

alphabassettgrrl 11-16-2008 06:29 PM

It was so nice to see everybody! Sorry we had to leave early, but with the long drive and all...

At least we could come play for a little bit.

alphabassettgrrl 11-16-2008 06:30 PM

Wow- portapotties on the side of the road? Who were they there for? Fire crews? Or people stuck in traffic?

I'm sad you couldn't come ,but dude. That's insane traffic. I'm surprised anybody tried to stick it out.

Mousey Girl 11-16-2008 07:12 PM

They were there for traffic. 9 miles before Filmore there is a traffic light with an am/pm. I think it is Piru. I was trying to figure out if the traffic was going to be like that all the way, or if it was caused by that signal.

Later, in Castaic, I talked to a couple of truckers and they said it would have been like that the entire way and 101 was not any better. I thought that if I could make it to Filmore I would be able to take 23 to 118, but I couldn't handle it. At the rate we were going it would have been at least another hour to go the 9 miles remaining.

alphabassettgrrl 11-16-2008 07:26 PM

An hour to go 9 miles??? Ouch.

madmonkeygirl 11-16-2008 08:33 PM

Reminds me of the trip back from Vegas Oct 2003 when there were horrible fires in Porter Ranch, San Bernadino (Big Bear) and i forget where else. The 15 south was closed outside of Barstow. There was only one road open the shortcut that goes to Mohave and that took us 11 hours to get home. I think we went 30 miles in 3 hours. I almost turned around and went back to Vegas for another night. We left Vegas early afternoon arriving home after midnight. Yup that long.

BarTopDancer 11-16-2008 09:47 PM

So sorry I missed it. I had a friend in town from FL and we spent all day at DL. Knowing out of town company was imminent I had said my goodbyes prior.

Looks like a blast and you will be missed GC!

No worries. We missed you but hey, all day at the park is all day at the park! Nice!

A huge big, fat Mahalo Nui Loa to Chris and Lisa for having this shindig at their house. I appreciate it. I had a great time.

:)

Strangler Lewis 11-17-2008 07:35 AM

Looks like it was a fun party. Bon voyage, GC.

BDBopper 11-17-2008 08:18 AM

In honor of your return to Hawaii, Brad I share this video of an appropriate Spike Jones record playing.

Cadaverous Pallor 11-17-2008 08:26 AM

Had a great time, of course. :) Sad about Brad leaving though.

Kevy Baby 11-17-2008 08:57 AM

Yay! I vote with Kevy on this one. Except, I cannot selfishly deny him what will be an incredible opportunity.

I was so tired after walking all over SF on Saturday, I got home, fell on my bed and started snoring immediately and missed the party via skype. :(

I'm glad everyone had a good time - especially Brad. The ash was amazing. As Lindyhop saud, it was snowing in my backyard. At one point EH brushed some ash off of me saying "Someone's house just fell on you". I swear my hard and porch were spotless before the party!

I managed to get "rid" of all of the mac salad - actually all of the leftovers - send baggies home with many. Poor GC got the rest - of everything. He'll be sick of Hawaiian food by the time he gets to Hawaii. ;)

Maybe he'll come back sooner! ;)

Prudence 11-17-2008 09:55 AM

It was fabulous! We had a great time, but alas the garage cleaning ordeal left us a little wiped out so we had to dash early. My accomplice asked why we were having such a great time if GC is leaving. I said it was something like a wake, where we celebrate despite our sadness. The response: So, now Brad is dead to us?

I heart macaroni salad.

Hee hee.

I was thinking recently about my nomadic lifestyle and a quote from a song came to mind:
Quote:

Look over the passing train
And there I am
No matter were I am
I'm passing through
Mama Cass' "One Way Ticket"
How very true that is for me...

madmonkeygirl 11-17-2008 10:35 AM

Had a blast and thanks to my manager made it there earlier than anticipated. :) Yes selfish that we don't want Brad leaving but happy that he has this incredible opportunity of a lifetime and will definitely see him again in the future. It's not goodbye it's see you later.

Stan4dSteph 11-17-2008 09:43 PM

Very sorry to have missed the party. Between the road closures and my asthma acting up from the fires, I had to change plans.

Bon voyage, Brad!

Kevy Baby 12-02-2008 04:31 PM

As I am sure many others did, I earlier received an Aloha text message from Brad.

He's officially gone.

:Snif:

Not Afraid 12-02-2008 04:33 PM

Well, he's officially at the airport. His flight doesn't leave until 4:55, so we can still possibly kidnap him.

Please do!

Bon Voyage Brad! Safe Flight! No turbulance allowed!

Gn2Dlnd 12-02-2008 04:50 PM

Get off the plane if the pilot identifies himself as Rex and makes a "joke" about it being his first flight.

I received a Bon Voyage text too. My cheese is officially sad :( and i agree get off the plane if any of the above are true.

Strangler Lewis 12-02-2008 10:59 PM

Safe travels.

JWBear 12-02-2008 11:29 PM

How long is the flight to Honolulu?

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 12-02-2008 11:32 PM

So, I spent the last few hours with Brad before I took him to the airport. I Picket him up at his Swanky Burbank home for a quick meal at IN&Out, which, apparently, is not available on the Island. :(

With a quick stop at the comic shop to pick up some reading material before I knew it we were at LAX and I was unloading GC and his crap. A fond "farewell" and he dissapeared into the terminal.

While driving away I thought for sure that the LoT Folk would've devised some plan to kidnap GC and keep him in CA. But with the amount of baggage he had with him, it would have been a real tough one.

It is not goodbye, though, but Aloha! which means "Until we meet again."

Not Afraid 12-03-2008 12:14 AM

Glad to hear he made it and all is well.

Gemini Cricket 12-03-2008 10:38 AM

Thanks for the well wishes, y'all. I appreciate them greatly.

Well, I'm here in Hawai'i.

My flight was mellow. But I almost killed the guy sitting next to me. At every opportunity, he made some sort of noise or muttered to himself. It was quite annoying. He moved around a lot too. It was like sitting next to a tuna that was recently pulled from the ocean and placed on the seat to my left. The funniest bit was when he stood up as the plane was landing to look under people's seats for his lost shoe. The flight attendants made him sit. Then after we landed and were taxiing, he fell into the aisle as he tried to tie the laces of his recently recovered shoe.

After a late dinner at Zippy's with the parents, I met up with my little sis and had a couple of glasses of wine with her. She showed me her badge and gun. Oy. She's a cop for crying out loud. It's surreal.

The weather is supposed to be 83 degrees F later today.

I'm going to visit my grandma around lunch time. She seems to be hanging on and has started to eat on her own again. First time in about a year or so.

It took my mum exactly 1 hour before she started her preaching. Politely and firmly, I explained to her why I was not interested in Catholicism and would not like to discuss faith with her further. She said okay. We'll see how long that lasts. I vow to bite my tongue and not get into any heated debates with her further. We'll see how long that lasts.

A big Mahalo to our Bornieo for taking me to the airport. I'm halfway through the "Watchmen" graphic novel. I like it so far. It's severely lacking in comic relief though. I'm curious to see how they're going to do some of the effects in the film version.

Anyway, all is well so far. Like Gn2Dlnd does at the park, I'm going to make my rounds of the island and see what has changed.

Ttyl.

Brad

:)

Yes, but he's posting. We DID know Brad via the internet for a longer period of time than we had him in our clutches.

wolfy999 12-03-2008 11:37 AM

He never really did leave us....now did he?

madmonkeygirl 12-03-2008 01:08 PM

awww Brad glad to hear you made it safe and sound...lol about the guy next to you on the flight. Oh how i know all too well what that is like since i used to fly alot.

I wish the weather was that warm here. I'm hoping i can convince Matt to take a vacation to Hawaii with me but if not i will definitely come alone lol i miss the water, the crystal blue water and the bluest of blue sky and the warm weather and the soft sand. Our beaches don't compare here. I'm spoiled.

Glad to hear your grandma is doing a bit better. :) Good news. Have a shaved ice for me. :) I miss those.

We'll see who takes longer to go and visit you here or me there lol...

Alex 12-03-2008 01:12 PM

From my perspective, he hasn't gone anywhere.

Hope the new phase of life works out great for you Brad.

Jeez, did that spider just fart?"

lashbear 12-03-2008 02:30 PM

OK. Now you're there, I want a full scouting of the tourist spots for me, and a complete list of all the major amusement parks in HI.

Alex 12-03-2008 02:39 PM

There are no major amusement parks in Hawai'i (unless one was built in the last decade). There is a water park in Kapolei.

Snowflake 12-03-2008 03:07 PM

Okay, I thought Hawaii pretty much is an amusement park?

Alex 12-03-2008 03:15 PM

You apparently haven't been to Aina Haina. Not a lick of amusement in sight.

Lashbear, I forgot to mention: there is a Chuck E. Cheese in Aina Haina.

Snowflake 12-03-2008 03:34 PM

Nope, never been to Hawaii.
It's on my list of places to visit before retiring forever.

AFAIK, the closest they have to a theme park is the Polynesian Cultural Center. But I'd be hesitant to visit that right now... isn't it owned/run by the Mormons?

Alex 12-03-2008 03:55 PM

Yes it is, and it is closely affiliated with BYU-Hawaii.

Kevy Baby 12-03-2008 04:17 PM

As much as we may want to, we may not (at least for the foreseeable future) be going. Susan's uncle, whom we don't much care for, lives there. If we were to go, we would HAVE to stay with him and regardless of what we wanted to do, he would insist on being our tour guide.

Not if he doesn't know you're there :D

~MS~ 12-03-2008 04:41 PM

What SHE said!

I have been known to be within 3 blocks of 'family' and they be none the wiser!

Morrigoon 12-03-2008 04:51 PM

And if you have any concerns that he might later, pop in on him unexpectedly the last day and say you simply couldn't NOT pop by to say hi since you were in the area, and would he consider having dinner with you before you leave?

madmonkeygirl 12-03-2008 04:53 PM

Exactly lol sorry but i'd go to visit GC anyday regardless of family there. They wouldn't have to know you were there. Many times i've been close to family members when traveling and never said anything. They were none the wiser for not knowing lol...after all it is your vacation.

It would be hard to never talk about a trip to Hawaii. It is Susan's Mother's brother and Mom & bro are close. It isn't just him that we would have to "hide" from.
