Gay Day 2008

Anyone going?

Alex 09-29-2008 10:43 PM

Miley Cyrus is.

Chernabog 09-29-2008 10:50 PM

Haha I will be there of course!! My bf and I just made our shirts, in grand double entendre Gay Day Disneyland style :D

Andrew 09-29-2008 11:08 PM

Strangely enough, I am. Saturday, anyway.

innerSpaceman 09-29-2008 11:15 PM

Not gonna make it this year. Didn't even begin to start making the shirt that will fer shure get me kicked out of the Park when I finally get around to wearing this one. This will be the third year in a row I've missed. Maybe GayDay and me are OVER.

Too bad. It's a great shirt idea.

Anyway, a bunch of us got tickets for the L.A. Weekly DetourFest, likely none of us ever realizing it was GayDay. Sorry.

Dang.

Well... UNBOOK YOURSELF!

Motorboat Cruiser 09-30-2008 10:03 AM

Unfortunately, I am doing an all-day music festival at Irvine Lake on Saturday, then M works all day Sunday. We were really hoping to attend this year. :(

Isaac 09-30-2008 10:05 AM

I'll probably go but I don't have any shirts for this year.

I'll have to make some or wear my old ones.

innerSpaceman 09-30-2008 10:11 AM

I look really crappy in red anyway.

Morrigoon 09-30-2008 10:12 AM

Blocked out on the 5th, but I can go on the 4th (to the extent I can work around working) I love to hang out with my boys.

wolfy999 09-30-2008 10:17 AM

Working both days....stop by and say "Hi"!

alphabassettgrrl 09-30-2008 10:18 AM

I'll be there Saturday! Not with any interesting shirt slogans, though. Just regular red.

Andrew 09-30-2008 10:35 AM

I don't have one of those "straight but not narrow" t-shirts and probably wouldn't wear one if I had it -- not into logos or designs on shirts -- but I might make or find a "no on 8" button for my hat. Say hi if you see me on Saturday!

I was thinking the same thing lately. I was thinking on it more in the vein of not being anyone's billboard. It's the latest thing I will protest doing in my ongoing battles with heartless corporations. Although, I don't know how to get labels off of shoes, though. So I guess I will have to go barefoot like my Hawaiian ancestors.

Morrigoon 09-30-2008 12:48 PM

Looks like it's going to rain this weekend.

Moonliner 09-30-2008 01:00 PM

Sorry I can't make it. It's a great day to pick up chicks in the park.

alphabassettgrrl 09-30-2008 03:15 PM

Rain or not, I'll be there Saturday. I like the rain.

BarTopDancer 09-30-2008 03:21 PM

Accuweather shows bright and sunny skies this weekend.

Where did you see rain?

I'm cashing in on my hot springs spa certificate this weekend, so I'm a no-show.

Morrigoon 09-30-2008 08:51 PM

Saw rain on the MSN page for L.F. and RSM

CoasterMatt 09-30-2008 08:59 PM

There was a family at Universal today wearing red shirts - that had their family name on the front, and "Yes on 8" on the backs - they claimed that they're going to be at Disneyland this weekend, so I didn't say anything

Still, the best image ever was walking down Main Street and seeing the bears in red, walking next to the girl scouts in red.

Now if only they had all been holding hands and skipping... :)

http://weather.yahoo.com/Anaheim-Cal.../forecast.html

So the weather forecast varies from 'partly cloudy' to 'a few showers'.

Umm...I judging by the recent heat, if a cold front & low pressure system are approaching, there won't be much moisture associated with them. It'll probably be overcast & drizzly in the early morning, then it will become partly cloudy. That's my weather forecast.

Chernabog 10-01-2008 03:12 PM

Isaac 10-01-2008 03:15 PM

LOL!

I think I'm right about my forecast. The satellite image shows an approaching cold front:

but the doppler radar shows there's no precipitation associated with it:

Expect some clouds but skip the umbrella.

BarTopDancer 10-01-2008 03:45 PM

As long as it's cooler than today I don't care.

Chernabog 10-01-2008 04:01 PM

Sweet zombie jesus -- have we really gone so far that a gay day thread, instead of devolving into sex, bacon, or gay sex with bacon -- has turned into a conversation about the weather!?!?!?? Fooooof!

innerSpaceman 10-01-2008 04:18 PM

Ok then, GOD HATES FAGS.

Or, as it is so wonderfully depicted on that vampire allegoric HBO show, Trueblood .... "GOD HATES FANGS"

Is that a metaphor for something?

I think there should be a squeal-off between the Marys and the Miley Cyrus fans in attendance this weekend.

innerSpaceman 10-01-2008 04:25 PM

Yes, squeal off at 12:30 by crystal-sniffing twinks at the Matterhorny, right after Hungry Bear Bear's Lunch.

Oh, and the GOD HATES FANGS is on a church sign during the opening credits. The show is -in part- an allegory of the gay rights struggle, but with the gays being vampires. The allegorical aspects are just an undercurrent. It's a vampire show. They've "come out of the coffin" because synthetic blood is now available, and they're trying to mix in with regular society. Hilarity ensues.

SzczerbiakManiac 10-02-2008 11:26 AM

As much as I like being surrounded by thousands of my brothers and sisters, I am depressed enough already and see no need to be shunned by all the happy, pretty people in red.

innerSpaceman 10-02-2008 11:35 AM

Oddly enough, I haven't been back since Gay Day started getting really tired and old, and frankly boring to me. I circulated among some LoT folks what I thought was a great idea to spice it up with a quasi-MouseAdventure game that was very risque, and ya know, homo-erotic, but tremendous fun. (I don't know if anyone ever even read my proposal ... I know my then-boyfriend never bothered to.)

Yeah, it would have been a lot of work, and yeah we likely would have had our butts kicked out of the Park. But it would have revived the old fun of Gay Day. (And who knows what other effects it could have had on our butts if some really hot guys liked the game and took a shine to the organizers?)

So, coincidentally or not, I haven't been back to GayDay since. This will be the third year I've missed.

You should not let a lack of enthusiasm on the part of others sway your exuberance. If you are looking forward to the event, you go on looking forward to it! Ignore the old grumps.

I don't deny there are, but I have never been able to locate them at Gay Days.

It has been my experience that the overwhelming demographic for Gay Days are one of the following:
  1. Couples having a good time on their own, not looking for a third wheel.
  2. Tweaked out twinks who have absolutely no interest in even looking at someone not a clone of themselves, let alone even saying "hello" to.
I even went to the Bear gathering the last two years, thinking that they might be more amiable. I was mistaken. I might as well have been invisible.

innerSpaceman 10-02-2008 01:03 PM

Hmmm, in all the years I attended, I never experienced anyone being snooty or such.

I had a boyfriend all those years, but we never vanted to be alone. We loved being with a big group of our gay and straight friends, on an unusually fun day at the Park precisely because everyone else seemed so outgoing and friendly -- obviously with the keen awareness we were all participating in a giant group funfest.

Alas it was the same fun-fest year after year, and so the vicious circle began of less friends attending, less fun, and even less friends attending.

Oi, now I'm never gonna get to go to a GayDay with Brad Cricket, one of my bestest gay pals.

Wanna meet me there for a quick couple of hours in the early morning, Mr. Cricket? It's killing me that we'll never do a GayDay together. Just seems wrong.

Or is he?

innerSpaceman 10-02-2008 02:41 PM

Yeah, but unless he comes back during the first weekend in October in the next year or two, I won't be gay anymore.

After 50, I'm officially dead in the gay world. ;)

Gemini Cricket 10-02-2008 02:50 PM

I can't get away unfortunately. Saturday night will be a drink-fest. There's no way I can get up early on Sunday...

I'll be back. I can't stay away from the park for very long.

Besides, like the Brad Paisley song goes: I'm more interesting online any way.

It's the cowboy thing. Honestly. And Gwyren (who hasn't posted here in awhile and is getting married this weekend) is pretty much a cowboy wants me to steer clear (no pun intended) of the cowboy thing because they'd most likely just kick my a$s for being a gay.

Dangerous eye candy.
;)
I saw 'em at the Garth Brooks concert too. Someone really awesome got me tickets for Garth.

I see nothing wrong with me checking out gay cowboys. Oil Can Harry's is rife with them. For the record, I don't go for straight guys. Ever. Did it once and it sucks. He was/is a cowboy too and now one of my best friends.

It's the old fashioned, down to earth qualities that attracts me...
:)

BarTopDancer 10-02-2008 03:26 PM

The wonderful thing about eye candy is their orientation doesn't matter.

innerSpaceman 10-02-2008 03:40 PM

ok, enough friendliness. This is a pathetic excuse for a GayDay thread.

Queers disgust me. How can they DO that stuff? Sure, I have no problem when my wife does it, and I even kiss her afterwards. But if a boy does that same exact thing ... well lemme tell ya, God gets angry.

As for that other stuff ... ya know, the thing my wife won't let me do to her no matter how drunk I get her ... well God is freaking furious. Y'all should be burned at the stake ... and then have that stake shoved up there, too. Or would you twisted, perverted faggots like that?

I'll be meeting with ChernaJoe and BJ (almost added a "bog," then decided he needed to come up with his own moniker) when I get to the Park. For once, I'll probably be there early. I'm surprised (and a teensy bit disheartened) at the utter non-representation of LoT this year.

Oh well. I'll alway have Monstro.

Prudence 10-04-2008 12:40 PM

I need to put clothes on, then we're headed out.

Morrigoon 10-04-2008 02:04 PM

Pru: check Tweets, we're here! Cherny, BJ, ABG, (me), Zappop, SuperK, Theo. Headed into Festival arena for group pic.

JWBear 10-04-2008 10:37 PM

We're home. It was fun. Not as many red shirts this year. We saw many people who were obviously gay, but not wearing red.

Ran into a few friends. Met up with a gaggle of LoTers for a bit (and got to meet the mysterious BJ).

We're tired.

CoasterMatt 10-04-2008 11:01 PM

yep.

innerSpaceman 10-05-2008 12:18 AM

Who got to meet BJ? Who got to meet Omar? Two new magazine subscribers, with LoT-connected subscriptions no less. I've met and like them both. So sorry I missed gayday this year. Detour Festival was a blast, though. Where's my clone??

JWBear 10-05-2008 09:48 AM

Who's Omar?

We didn't spend much time with Cherny and BJ. He was kinda cute, on the thin side. He seems very quiet. (But maybe that's because, when you get a group of LoTers together, anyone would seem quiet in comparison!)

innerSpaceman 10-05-2008 10:16 AM

Omar's SuPeR K!'s new beau, a really rad and sweet guy, Disneyland lover ... so i'm kinda suprised he wasn't there yesterday with K. Long-distance relationship, so why spend a boyfriend moment apart when you both love disneyland, both are so completely gay, and it's gayday at disneyland?

i'm sure there was some reason preventing. Too bad. Omar's rad.

BJ's very cool, too.

Did you meet Mark (skinnylycan)? He's also teh awesome. (But if you think BJ's skinny ...ooooh.)

Come to think of it, with the extended LoT crowd, we know quite a bunch of really cool queers. :D

BarTopDancer 10-05-2008 10:47 AM

I was there with some other friends. Lots of red shirts, lots of No on 8 stickers. Had a blast.

Ran into Issac on our way in and K on our way out.

I believe Omar had a work function he could not get out of.

JWBear 10-05-2008 10:48 AM

There was a guy with Keith that I didn't recognize. I guess that was Omar.

Yeah, that was Mark, I think. Mark's awesome. Omar's rad. That's how to tell the difference between them. ;)

I don't have tweets enabled on my phone. :( So sad. :( We were there yesterday, but didn't see a one of you.

Hahahah abg looks so unusually serious in the above photo!!! She must have some repressed Zerg-hate that we don't know about :D

Haha he isn't usually THAT quiet; the weekend was just a little overwhelming for him -- he met like 50+ people from the course of Friday-Sunday (kept stopping me and going... "omg you know a lot of people"). He had a super good time though. Our shirts were a hit -- I'm sure there are photos up on MC that I can pull off. I think the event as a whole was better attended this year. At least, during the day I spotted more packs of redshirts than I did in years past. And I didn't hear any derisive comments from anyone all three days, which I thought was too frackin cool.

I do hope Beej wasn't put off by all the people going, "what? ummm.. WHAT? YOU have a boyfriend?" :D Pfffffft. ;)

It was great spending time with you crazy LoTters... heh I wish we had spent more time with JWBear, we were playing Disneyland Phone Tag all day and only ended up on one ride together!

And yes, y'all who haven't will meet the mysterious and sexy BJ soon (he is pretty skinny... he weighs a little more than me and hes 6' tall)-- if not on the 25th, then on Bats Day or some such event. :)

OK it's off to the first day of my new job!!!

We found someone with spare No on 8 stickers so I had one of those. The people with "Yes on 8 - I love my marriage" shirts made AVP cry.

Fun couple of days.

Looked for you anyway, because I didn't see this ^ until just now.

I took a photo in Frontierland at the Pioneer Mercantile.

For Brad:

Saw Cherny and BJ from a distance, but sadly, didn't get to say hello.

from The Advocate:
Gay Days at Disneyland: Part Celebration, Part Fiasco

It's a three-page report on some of the unfortunate behavior exhibited by a few rotten eggs at Gay Gays this past weekend. I found at least two very interesting things in that report:
  1. A debate spark about whether us homos should be on our "best behavior" or essentially let Disneyland become WeHo South.
  2. The author, who may not be a Disneyland geek like us, describing California Adventure as "a carnival-themed park affiliated with Disneyland." :D

innerSpaceman 10-07-2008 10:45 AM

While I agree inappropriate gayhavior is really uncool at Disneyland, I always shrug off the antics of a few who are free to disregard that opinion.

Sigh, but I feel a bit stronger about it a month before the Prop h8te election. Too bad not everybody does. It shocks me how many (especially young) gays don't really give a damn about the likihood of breakthrough civil rights being reversed in California.

But then I remember ... most kids are nimrods. Gay or straight. Sigh, it's just too bad.
