What's Your Swanky Halloween Garb This Year?

So, what are you planning for a costume this year?

If you're stuck on ideas, here are a few to spark your creativity:

Cadaverous Pallor 10-08-2008 07:34 PM

Telling? No way. I want this to be a surprise :)

BDBopper 10-08-2008 07:38 PM

Okay that was disturbing on so many levels!

Isaac 10-08-2008 07:40 PM

I never knew Elvis Presley had a cameltoe!

With pepperoni or sausage? ;)

Morrigoon 10-08-2008 08:41 PM

Not sure if I can get mine together, so I don't wanna make promises I can't keep.

Disneyphile 10-08-2008 08:42 PM

I think most people already know ours.

But, our costumes are all about the schtick! :D

Isaac 10-08-2008 08:47 PM

I don't think I can do mine due to the expensive contact lenses.

CoasterMatt 10-08-2008 08:54 PM

I should dress as one of the dolls from the New Guinea section of Small World...

I have a blue hospital gown from my recent ultrasound tests - Stoat & I were thinking a medical theme this year....

lashbear 10-08-2008 09:22 PM

Or I could bake us both a Gingerbread Jockstrap..........

If you don't let them cool properly, you'll end up needing more than just a medical theme...

Kevy Baby 10-08-2008 10:05 PM

Would anyone like to see pix of some of my prior years' costumes?

JWBear 10-08-2008 10:36 PM

I'm afraid......

Yes yes YES! :D

Moonliner 10-09-2008 07:07 AM

For me it's all about the kids. Headliner is thinking greek muse for this year. We saw Xanadu on broadway and she really liked Kira.

Ghoulish Delight 10-09-2008 07:25 AM

No telling here, but you can bet that whatever I do, it's going to be in the form of "______ - if they were a porn star", 'cause the mustache is staying.

LSPoorEeyorick 10-09-2008 07:28 AM

I'm not telling either but I'm excited. And similar to GD, it'll have to be in the form of "____ - if she were a sexy librarian" because the glasses are all I've got right now, no contacts.

I won't post out of respect for my fellow LoTers. But if your curiosity is just killing you, I will provide a link. But don't say I didn't warn you.

Not for the faint of heart or those at work.

Something like this?

OMG! That is simply spectacular. Why are you sitting down with your legs and arms crossed though? heh.

Betty 10-09-2008 08:19 AM

Where are all you going to be dressing up? Bars? Parties? To scare the kids that come to your door?

Andrew 10-09-2008 08:36 AM

Jennifer made us fabulous viking costumes which we wore to the Trick or Treat last Friday night. Unfortunately that will probably be our only Halloween event this year.

BDBopper 10-09-2008 08:40 AM

I have a good idea for my costume...though it'll only be worn to hand out candy. It probably won't happen unless i can find a kind soul who has a little time.

I'm willing to pay however....

cirquelover 10-09-2008 08:52 AM

The boy and I went to the Halloween store and he chose to be the Joker from Dark Knight. He's in an adult size now. Which of course is more expensive than the kids but at least it's the deluxe version, which means it has pants. He also got the cool purple gloves. Dad will be in charge of makeup and hair, sadly Mom is lacking in those departments:blush:

BarTopDancer 10-09-2008 09:51 AM

Here as well. Our school principal, in an effort to discourage overly violent or sexy costumes, sent around a memo encouraging the kids to dress as figures from history or literature. Our daughter has settled on Edith Wilson. Our son is harder to pin down. First it was Wallace Stevens. Then we thought he'd decided on Joseph Welch but now his two best friends are going as Dean Acheson. He's going to have to make up his mind soon, so we can get our order in.

Morrigoon 10-09-2008 10:33 AM

historical figures... less violent?

There goes that Jesus-on-the-cross costume...

Lol! Not bad, Kevy! Though, you should have shaved your legs. ;)

I was thinking of going as a Gothic school girl., but, alas, my skirt is way to short. Someone washed it then stuck it in the dryer. Now it comes up to my butt.

And it was my favorite skirt! :(

Oh well, now I'm going as a vampire. That should be fun and hopefully next year I'll be the Gothic school girl.

They did that for awhile around here as a way to make it okay to celebrate Halloween without them religious folks getting their panties in a twist. It was just an excuse on paper though - everyone seemed to dress up however they wanted anyway.

Even that could cause problems if the kids are creative enough (and I am sure kids will find creative ways to mess with faculty at school [although I never did ;) ]).

For example, girls could go as Lady Godiva as she took her protest ride. Boys could go as Cohen the Barbarian.

Character in the Terry Pratchett series of books. Very funny character.

Basically, he is a spoof of a heroes - what they would be like if they survived and got old.

Actually, that sounds just about perfect. :D

My Tony Stark costume is coming along nicely. I made the mold for the arc reactor, bought the plastic, mounted the LEDs on the back plate. I just need to solder the circuit and assemble it all together. And I started growing the beard 2 weeks ago.

I'm keeping everyone at work in the dark about my costume. I want it to be a surprise. So I'm currently growing a full beard just to throw people off. So far the guesses are Obi Wan Kenobi (I great idea that I'm saving for another time), Chewbacca, an ewok. One guy did guess that I was making a full Iron Man costume. So close.

*Rolls eyes and snickers a little*

I would wear it, but, mom wouldn't let me, due to the fact that we're having my guy friends over and last year was fun with my KH2 Kairi costume since it was short. Luckily, I wore tights with it.

Cool! A Tony Stark costume. Great idea!

Right on, mom! You'll have lots of years to wear costumes with tiny skirts, ToriBear, no worries. (It seems that's all they sell for adults these days!) But I bet your vampire costume will be fun. Is it a Twilight-specific vampire? (I'm getting excited for the movie.)

I'm having that problem with my Jem costume. I cut the asymmetrical "slant" on the dress WAY too high. Indecently high. Now instead of looking for white/silver sparkly nylons, I'm looking for leggings. Do you know how hard those are to find in 2XL? (As they say, spandex is a privilege, not a right). I may cheat and get some shorts or something. Not very Jem-like, but I have too big a butt to purposely expose it.

LSPoorEeyorick 10-09-2008 02:09 PM

Lots and lots and lots and lots of leggings.

BDBopper 10-09-2008 02:41 PM

Actually I was dropping hints a few weeks ago, tweeting about buying fabrics for my "truly outrageous" costume.

Shoulda kept it secret but meh, now I need a 2nd, Disney-themed one, so I'll keep THAT secret, LOL.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jem_(TV_series)

Jem is an American animated television series that ran from 1985 to 1988 in U.S. first-run syndication. The show is about music company owner Jerrica Benton, her singer alter-ego, Jem, her band the Holograms, and their adventures.

(too bad the picture doesn't show the original Jem outfit, the one I'm doing)

okay the scary thing is that I almost cut the dress right. Woo that's high!

Ghoulish Delight 10-09-2008 04:27 PM

I adore E-bay, btw. I tried some thrift store shopping for my costumes with no luck. I looked into buying some of the stuff new, but I quickly would have been well over $100 per costume (I have 2 parties, with 2 different themes to attend) going that route. And I tried giving up and looking at costume stores for the crappy versions, and THOSE would cost nearly $100 each.

But a few mintues on E-bay, and I've got just about everything for BOTH costumes for under $100 total. And legit stuff, not crappy costume-grade junk.

tracilicious 10-09-2008 04:43 PM

Barry Egan and I are going as suicidal writers this year. I'm going to be Sylvia Plath post suicide and Barry is Hunter S. Thompson post suicide. I'm hosting a grown up trick or treating party. We'll go door to door like the kiddies and donate the candy to a local children's shelter. Fun times!

lizziebith 10-09-2008 04:46 PM

No surprise here -- since I just finished this, I'll mostly likely give it a Halloween spin:

madmonkeygirl 10-09-2008 06:30 PM

I'm not divuldging my costume this year to the party the night after Halloween. But the skirt part is way way too short lol...i am so excited can't wait. Now CM has to get his costume together.

Cadaverous Pallor 10-09-2008 07:00 PM

Lizziebith - you MADE that?? Awesome.

BDBopper 10-09-2008 08:34 PM

Yeah...that's very impressive! WTG! :)

Snowflake 10-09-2008 09:38 PM

This is appealing to me this season. I can't quite nail the voice, alas.

I'm going as one of my characters from Shall we bite?, more or likely Aza.

(I'm getting excited for the movie too! I just saw the new trailer. It's looking awesome!)

CoasterMatt 10-09-2008 10:58 PM

That picture was NOT me- I don't have that much body hair, and because of all the non-costume wearing Halloween events I go to every year, I haven't had a proper Halloween costume in over a decade.

I can't look at lizziebith's Stormtrooper head. Not after seeing yesterday's South Park episode. I... just... can't.
:D

lizziebith 10-09-2008 11:20 PM

Aw...and I spent all day on it.

I have never seen South Park. Is it a funny Star Wars thing? I feel like an out of it dope. I mean the episode...I'm not so bad I haven't heard of the actual show. But close!

Yes I made-or-really-decorated-it. It's a fiberglass cast of one of the screen-used helmets. I did all the rest. If I talk I have an altered radio voice complete with a static burst: "look sir -- droids! kkhhhkkk" hehe I am an incorrigible geek. It has computer fans inside I installed to keep the geek-girl head cool.

Yes, geek. And cool. In the same sentence!

The best part is my kid wants to borrow it!

Betty 10-10-2008 06:39 AM

That is incredibly geeky and incredibly cool all at the same time. :)

BarTopDancer 10-10-2008 08:35 AM

So that's not Matt.

Morrigoon 10-10-2008 09:54 AM

Nope, just a very hairy doppelganger.

Prudence 10-12-2008 03:33 PM

So far I don't think I'm doing anything on Halloween except enjoying a day off, so I haven't really bothered to think about costumes.

~MS~ 10-12-2008 03:36 PM

I was on the fence about a costume for the ToT when a dear friend offered up the most amazing perfect costume for me...all I need to purchase is some glitter spray and spiders for my hair...I'm kind of excited about the whole process actuall :D
