Nine Years
 

Nine years ago today
I stood alone in the bar,
Waiting for a friend who never came.
You walked up to me
Looking hot in latex and camo,
Buzzed hair and goatee.
You charmed me in an instant.

Four weeks later,
A phone call,
A date,
The AMC on Pine,
Sixth Sense.
Dinner at Kings.
Your apartment after.

Nine years later.
Dinner at King’s.
Our ritual.
Our memory.

Nine years.
Nine years of finding joy in one another,
Nine years of comforting each other
Through sadness and death.
Nine years as companions.
Nine years as best friends.
Nine years as lovers.

Nine years ago,
You were a stranger.
Another face in the crowd.
Now, you are my life,
My love,
My world.
