Bats Day is November 9th!

We should have a meet!

I'm thinking noon, hubbish, TL side

Isaac 10-20-2008 08:15 PM

wolfy999 10-20-2008 08:49 PM

I'll be there...one way or another.

innerSpaceman 10-20-2008 09:08 PM

I'm so glad I haven't missed it.

Imagine .... Bat's Day on a non-sweltering day! How can that be?

Ok, yeah, there'll be no Haunted Mansion. But I've actually grown rather bored of that part .... and am just in it for the fashion show and the gothraderie.

So yeah, I'm In It. :snap:

alphabassettgrrl 10-20-2008 10:42 PM

No Mansion meet? Why not? I thought they didn't take down the Mansion until January?

He probably means that it will be HMH: Haunted Mansion Holiday.

innerSpaceman 10-21-2008 06:54 AM

Yes.

Not that goths don't like Nightmare Before Christmas. But more and more, I think the overlay is seen to be a blight on The Haunted Mansion ... and the real thing is much more in line with the goth ethos, at least as I see it (I'm not a goth, I just play one on Bat's Day.)

alphabassettgrrl 10-21-2008 09:29 AM

Ah. I kind of like the change once a year to Nightmare. I'm glad, though, that they change it back to normal when the season is done.

Chernabog 10-21-2008 09:42 AM

It depends on whether they start the "AP Layaway Plan" by that time...

I wouldn't mind if it didn't mean that we're without regular Mansion for nearly half the year. Including downtime to install and remove the overlay, regular Mansion is gone from September through January. It sucks.

innerSpaceman 10-21-2008 09:49 AM

The Mansion not being the Mansion during Halloween is what sucks most of all, imo.

Nightmare Before Christmas would be an ok Christmastime overlay ... but there's hardly anything on earth more Halloweeny to me than the Haunted Mansion.

Well, one (sort of) exists now.

Buy a regular ticket on Bat's Day. While you are there, upgrade to a So Cal Select AP. Later, add parking, upgrade to So Cal, then Deluxe and then Premium if needed. Works like a charm and have used that several times over the years.

November 5th

Prudence 10-21-2008 01:15 PM

I'm very undecided. I was all set to go, but I don't have anything appropriate to wear and I've accepted the reality that I'm not going to be able to make anything appropriate in the time remaining.

If I go, I will be wearing a bright floral Hawaiian shirt.

Not Afraid 10-21-2008 01:45 PM

I'm going to wear white.

JWBear 10-21-2008 01:55 PM

Can I wear purple?

A black t-shirt is appropriate. Wear that.

There's nothing a little eyeliner can't cure ;)

innerSpaceman 10-21-2008 02:53 PM

I'm going to be wearing white, too ... but only at night. My daytime outfit is more goth.

I love costume changes!!

I'm not sure if Gogol Bordello will be playing at the Tomorrowland Terrace, but I somehow doubt it.

Prudence 10-21-2008 07:45 PM

But a black t-shirt is so boring! :( If I can find my heretic t-shirt I might wear that. I don't have any black jeans and the only black pants I have are wool and lined. I have a few black skirts, though, so maybe. I dunno. Some decent tights, plus a skirt and the heretic t-shirt would probably do in a pinch, although I would feel pretty under-dressed.

innerSpaceman 10-21-2008 11:19 PM

Don't be intimidated by this ... but personally I feel the first Goth Day not in August deserves all-out clothing displays.

No one, however, should opt out of the fun because they don't have the goods to wear that day. One's enjoyment always comes from seeing what others are wearing anyway ... and none of us will judge anyone for not having the cool duds.

We will admire those that do, and have just as much fun with those that are there regardless. It's a fun day. Don't stay away for sartorial reasons. That's just dumb.

alphabassettgrrl 10-22-2008 02:36 PM

Pru, I won't be "dressed" (though I will be dressed of course).

Come out and play. I may wear white with NA. I've done that before.

Gemini Cricket 10-22-2008 02:42 PM

Sadly, my AP has expired.
No sense in renewing before I leave Dec. 2.
Sounds like it'll be a fun. It's smart to have it during the Fall. It'll be cooler and no one will burst into flames if they stand in the hot sun too long.
:D

Chernabog 10-22-2008 03:04 PM

Of course, we are here on October 22 and it is 95 motherfracking degrees in Los Angeles (and hotter in the Valley). So the switch may not help after all!

I blame Al Gore and his interwebs. Oh and those weather-controlling gays. ;)

Yeah, me too. That's why I'll probably skip it. I've got retro-40s stuff and pseudo-punk stuff, but nothing goth. Sad cheese.

innerSpaceman 10-22-2008 08:21 PM

Way to totally misinterpret the thrust of my post.

(btw, I and many others have gone pseudo-punk to goth day for years and years, with no complaints from the authorities)

CoasterMatt 10-22-2008 08:43 PM

I tend to go and gawk and point at the people staring at my better dressed friends.

My heart is blacker than anybody's eyeliner, anyway.

Cadaverous Pallor 10-22-2008 08:48 PM

I just hope someone gets a pic of TheatreTech. I miss him around here!

innerSpaceman 10-22-2008 08:48 PM

Why don't you come and see for yourself?

You'll have to crane your neck a bit, but it will be worth it.

Sorry - I totally got your meaning and didn't mean to imply that you thought I should stay home. I'm just in a purist pissy-pants mood at the moment and personally hate the thought of going if I can't "do it right".

Cadaverous Pallor 10-22-2008 09:06 PM

I've never been much of a goth - though I had fun portraying one once or twice. :) I know you're going to say it doesn't matter but it does to me. Hope all you guys have fun!

Not Afraid 10-22-2008 09:13 PM

Back when I was Ur-Goth (before there was a name or a uniform) we just threw together a look from our thrift store finds. There was a bit of Norma Desmond, lots of lace, leather, velvet, lots of black, much hairspray, intense make-up and a bit of Vampira. That's my Goth.

Oh, and we wern't allowed in Disneyland back then.

Prudence 10-22-2008 09:18 PM

The peanut gallery next to me just suggested that we go as Visigoths. Sadly, I could probably pull that one together by the 9th.

innerSpaceman 10-22-2008 09:47 PM

Hahaha, that would be hysterical.

Sorry, but I was not about to spend money on clothes I would wear only once a year to Disneyland. So I went to many a goth day as a punk. In fact, this year, I'll be goth in the morning and much more punk at night (in white). There's no right or wrong.

And I was NEVER a goth, but always had a blast on goth day. So staying away because you're not a real goth (you'd frelling need a time machine for that, btw) or because you don't have the "correct" thing to wear just seems kinda silly to me. But, ya know, I'm not you and it's none of my damn business.

If you don't want to go because it doesn't float your boat, that's one thing. But declining because of clothing or authenticity seems quite a stretch.

Hey, I'm not here to convince anyone to do anything they don't want to. But a simple 'no thanks' will suffice. No need to rationalize just not feeling like it.

lizziebith 10-22-2008 10:11 PM

I remember Ur-goth, and not being allowed into the park...which honestly is my attraction to attending bats-days now. Still, I've got a premiere of a little flick I worked on that night that I'm going to be attending instead. That would be The Lost Skeleton Returns Again. Swanky...and now I'm on IMdb lol.

alphabassettgrrl 10-23-2008 05:50 AM

NA's picture and the image of Pru as a visigoth make me giggle. :) Awesome.

Goodness knows I'm not exactly known for my goth tendencies, but it's good clean fun to get your goth on for a day amongst all the other folks. Most people just wear a black t-shirt, seriously. If you're wondering, I have pics from 2007. Obviously I mostly photographed friends and fabulous folks, but if you look around the background you'll see most folks, seriously, are just wearing black t-shirts.

Morrigoon 10-23-2008 09:23 AM

Frankly, I'm afraid he's gotten into some nasty stuff. Reportedly, he's been kinda flakey with mutual friends who've seen him a lot more recently than I.

Fingers crossed.

Prudence 10-23-2008 12:22 PM

I just hate going places where I know I could look super spiffy- if I'd only taken the time. I want a bustle dress! And a parasol! And a bevy of cabana boys! And a pony!

alphabassettgrrl 10-23-2008 07:34 PM

OOohhh, yeah, a pony would be awesome!

wolfy999 11-02-2008 08:52 AM

I got the day off...so Wolfette and I will be there for sure!

Morrigoon 11-02-2008 11:13 AM

I accidentally took the Saturday off instead of Sunday, dangit (originally for a football game, which turned out to be yesterday.... sigh). I hope my shift time is convenient so I don't totally miss out. I'm sure I'll miss the mansion photo (again).

wendybeth 11-02-2008 11:54 AM

ToriBear went Goth at Halloween- TheaterTech would have been proud. (I hope he's doing okay- iSm's post kind of alarms me).I have to say she looked pretty awesome. She didn't know about Bat's Day, so I predict that maybe next year we might be in attendance.

dingdong2u 11-07-2008 10:54 PM

I'm supposed to be working that day but I (cough cough) feel a cold coming on so I hope to see some of you up there. Is there still a gathering planned at the Hub at Noon Tomorrowland side?

CoasterMatt 11-07-2008 11:32 PM

We'll be there...

innerSpaceman 11-08-2008 01:10 AM

I should be showing up around noonish.

Prudence 11-08-2008 02:00 AM

We're going to try to be there - probably not in any kind of outfit. I'm going to wear my heretic shirt and call it a day.

Not Afraid 11-08-2008 11:54 AM

I'm not going. Too much work.

CoasterMatt 11-08-2008 12:10 PM

I promise not to wear tights.

Chernabog 11-08-2008 12:25 PM

I don't know if we are gonna be there for Bats Day, or if we will be protesting.

innerSpaceman 11-08-2008 03:41 PM

I need a break from protesting, and a fun day of dress up.

Or both. Saddleback in the morning, or Lake Forest, then the Park.

(I can't do that, however, as I still have El Mio in the morning, but it's just a suggestion for a way to have cake and eat it.)

wolfy999 11-08-2008 03:44 PM

Heck Bat's Day only comes once a year (twice if you count the mini bat's day), you can protest anytime!

For some of us this would mean our 7th (or 8th or 9th) Bats Day, and all things get old, eventually.

innerSpaceman 11-08-2008 05:37 PM

Yeah, to tell the truth, even though the weather's the same ... I'm going to support the long-overdue change to NOVEMBER. And because I have a kick-ass outfit to wear. ;)

Besides, my AP is growing spider webs, and I paid good money for it.

BarTopDancer 11-08-2008 06:33 PM

Saddleback for me, then meeting friends before the game.

No Bat's for me - goth to sell the cheese.

Prudence 11-08-2008 10:58 PM

Are we meeting anywhere in particular? Or do I have to try to find you all in the bat's day crowd? Someone call me tomorrow...

innerSpaceman 11-08-2008 11:14 PM

It's tradition to meet in the hub around noon ... usually a little before.

There's a huge group photo at noon in front of the Castle, and the Hub is a sort of Fashion Parade, mingle zone for the hour or so before that.

Then we go on a ride or two, have a long lunch, some cocktails, stay out of the heat in our unbearably hot clothes .... wait for twilight, have a costume change, and head over to the Haunted Mansion for the 2nd round of fashion parade ... usually much better because people were more outrageous things once the blazing sun goes down ... alas, it's also dark and hard to see.

Yes, it's old, it's trite, it's routine, it's been done. It's fun!

Morrigoon 11-09-2008 01:40 AM

Sadly, I work a long shift tomorrow, so since I can only be around a very short while, I won't be wearing the outfit I worked on. Probably just toss on last year's little black dress, maybe augmented with my pink fishnets and/or stripey socks, and, as ever, a parasol.

alphabassettgrrl 11-09-2008 02:35 AM

See y'all at noon! I won't be themed, but I'll be there.

Isaac 11-09-2008 03:13 AM

I'll be there but probably not in goth garb.

Melonballer 11-09-2008 05:20 AM

Bats day has always been one of those days I would like to be in the park. The group always seems to have a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I am stuck here in Washington. So have fun everyone!

Gemini Cricket 11-09-2008 10:51 AM

Because of some awesomeness, I will be at the park today for Bat's Day. See ya there.
:)

I think my all my blackness is in the laundry... hmmm. We'll see.

alphabassettgrrl 11-09-2008 11:44 PM

What a wonderful day! Glad to see everybody!

RStar 11-10-2008 12:39 AM

Looks like you didn't need to worry about the heat this time ISM! Boy was it cold and windy! In the sun it was ok, though. But not hot for sure!

Saw some really interesting outfits today! One lady was expecting warm weather as her outfit was quite skimpy (I'm sure she dressed down after she got inside). I bet she was cold!

Sub la Goon 11-10-2008 05:40 AM

Here are a few pictures I got yesterday:

It was great to see you yesterday and I am so sorry I only saw ISM fleetingly, with photographic opportunity. He looked awesome!

wolfy999 11-10-2008 08:34 AM

Thanks for posting pics so quickly. We need a shot of TheaterTech though....he joined us later in the day. The tallest I've ever seen him!

Not Afraid 11-10-2008 09:34 AM

I'm glad it was a fun day! I always love to see the "costumes" that people pull off. I had a much need relaxing evening wiht nary a commitment. It was lovely.

innerSpaceman 11-10-2008 10:33 AM

Yep, the event itself may be old and a little tired, but the fashion show is ALWAYS fun. Yesterday no exception.

So I was there for a few hours, and that was just perfect. A little Goth, my first ride on the new monorails, a nice Jazz Kitchen dinner with great company. Perfect.

Gemini Cricket 11-10-2008 10:36 AM

Goth Day was wonderful.

I get a huge kick out of seeing the Goth folk roam the park, in some of the most amazing outfits ever, and then watching stuffy, uppity, conservative OC people just get all steamed over it. I love it. Not to mention there were a lot of the gays out there yesterday holdin' hands and stuff out in the open. Nice! More OC ears leaking steam.

And speaking of steam, there was a huge population of Steampunk outfits that just rocked. So very cool.

I had a blast hanging out with Pru, her man, the material girl - Morrigoon, Wolfy, Wolfette, Bornieo, Theatre Tech, TT's friend with the Alice Cooper eyes, iSm, Isaac, alphab, CM and mmg (and her 2 mooses... meese?) to name a few. It was also nice catching up with several MC crew folk as well. Nice pics, Sub la!
:)

Morrigoon 11-10-2008 12:51 PM

The steampunk stuff was fantastic! I really look forward to that becoming a bigger influence.

My outfit was definitely incomplete... it needs the parts I haven't made yet.

I saw theatretech briefly, but he passed too quickly for me to get his attention.

Did anybody else think this goth day was perhaps a little less fabulous than in past years? Not sure if it was fewer people or just fewer amazing outfits. Although, to be fair, the amazing outfits there were were really amazing. I saw a delightful red dress that was some kind of cross between bustle gown and hobble dress, and some fantastic coats. There were a couple cute goth kiddies, including one who looked like the goth Annie.

Prudence 11-10-2008 01:00 PM

Sorry we didn't stay longer. Kind of wish we had, as we've been meaning to try the Jazz Kitchen sometime, but my tolerance for being so uncool in the sea of fab was limited. Maybe next year.

Gn2Dlnd 11-10-2008 01:13 PM

Bwaha.

innerSpaceman 11-10-2008 01:14 PM

Too bad no pics of, well, me. I liked my outfit a lot this year. TeeHee.

If they keep this in November, I'll keep going.

Morrigoon 11-10-2008 01:16 PM

Dang, iSm, I was hoping to see what you wore, too!

innerSpaceman 11-10-2008 01:34 PM

It wasn't outrageous or anything. It was just very back-to-basics goth, and I liked it.

Heheh, I'll likely wear it again next year ... as it's one of the few times I've dressed goth instead of punk.

Gemini Cricket 11-10-2008 02:28 PM

Fantasmic! looks great, btw. Apparently there are HD projectors now. It makes the water fan pictures really clear now. You can actually see Tinkerbell now towards the end. And, I don't know if it was just me, but the villains looked bigger, maybe a larger projection now? Not sure.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 11-10-2008 02:48 PM

Had a great time! Not alot of boobage this time around. OH well.

Loved that Baked Potato at Jazz Kitchen.

innerSpaceman 11-10-2008 03:22 PM

So good, it's what i had for dessert!!

Morrigoon 11-10-2008 03:29 PM

I have to add that there were lots of yummy kilted men in the crowd. I loves me some utilikilt, mmmm-hmmm.

alphabassettgrrl 11-10-2008 04:50 PM

There definitely seemed to be fewer goths in attendance, though I did leave before the big Mansion meet. I saw a wave of black entering down Main St.

The fantasticness was fantastic, though, yes, I think less in number. I may have pictures; I'll have to look. The dinner at Jazz Kitchen was wonderful, capped by creme brulee in teeny tiny cups that amused me all to pieces.

Gemini Cricket 11-10-2008 05:05 PM

And don't forget the proilliterates that we had too. Delicious!

On the other hand, instead we had ice cream for dinner and for dessert we "did laundry", our new euphemism for...yeah. So, maybe not jealous after all. :p (Although that whatever it was does look tasty....)

If that's a bald spot, I'm okay with it because I can't see it unless CM takes more pics of the back of my head...

Mickey Blows Up!

You know, I never noticed it before, but it does look like Mickey blows up at the end of Fantasmic!

Had a wonderful time hanging out with so many friends and the wonderful meals we had and the company. I haven't had a more nicer Sunday in a very long time and i surely miss that. But next time i need to bring my camera since i left it at home and we were there for fireworks and Fantasmic. ALthough my cell phone worked wonders for fireworks pics i'm dying to see what my camera can do.

Not a bad choice.

November weather turned out to be great, but I guess no Haunted Mansion is kind of a drag.

May's better than AUGUST!

May's definitely better than August. This time i may actually dress up since it is going to be in May. Much better weather wise.
