Goonies Never Say Die

Okay, so I went to high school right outside of Astoria and lived in the area for five years...and my mom still lives there, so I visit often. I was on the cusp of teen-hood when The Goonies was released and all the girls I knew were hot for Corey Feldman (um, I'm SO over him, after meeting him and underwhelming him with my geekiness) and Sean Astin (nooooot quite over him, esp. after going to his reading a few months back) and a few chicks who liked the older men were into Josh Brolin (okay, fine, ME, I liked older boys dammit).

I'm feeling more and more geeky about this.....but I have to let you all know, that not only am I coming down to Anaheim for Disneyland's 50th birthday (which, let's face it, is kinda dorky), I'm for sure going to The Goonie's 20th Anniversary weekend in June.....I've even been on the Goonies chat boards.

Read more about it here:

I feel my cool quotient is dropping exponentially, yet I don't care. I'm not quite up to doing the Truffle Shuffle for Chunk, but I'd like to meet Jeff Cohen, so I'll probably try to meet him at some point, and I plan to get tickets to Growing up Goonie for Courtney and me as soon as they're released. I can hide behind my daughter and pretend it's all about her, but let's face it, it's all about me.

The closer it gets, the more excited I am!!! My mom thinks it's craziness!!! :D Courtney and I have been plotting and planning. We're not doing the bus tour, because I know the area like the back of my hand and I have been inside every single location with the exception of Mouth's house and Data's house. We've been watching the movie here and there and Courtney's made a list of places to visit.

So that's it. One more confession of dorkiness from me.

Very cool! What kid growing up in '80s didn't dream about treasure, pirates and adventure after watching "The Goonies"!

Here is a LINK to a song especially for you!

Pfft Cool IS doing your own thing and not being dragged down by peeps that don't get it.

Or it could be that I'm so uncool as to not know what I'm talking about.

Darn it, if that wasn't ridiculously close to my due date I would seriously be planning a road trip. Goonies are like a religion in Michael's family. They used to play a name the movie quote game and it was almost always a Goonies quote. It got to where I would just answer Goonies before they even said anything. Once, my family was over for dinner and I asked if they wanted to watch Goonies and they all looked at me like I was nuts. I was like, "Oh, right. Wrong family." When I was pregnant with Indi I practically lived in Michael's Goonies shirt. I love it, and I became a Goonies dork as an adult. What does that say about me?

Hopefuly not too much, I didnt see it until I was at least 30.
Though I wouldnt say I'm a dork, it has to say something, and it must be good.

So cool Claire! If June wasn't a totally crazy month for us..I'd think about road trip with the kids!

Acutally...right now...we're watching Goonies!

dsnylndmom 03-29-2005 01:05 PM

Oh that is so cool!! I showed the site to Kyler and he responded "oh can we go please please please"! :)

Ya'll can come stay at my mom's place.....5200 square foot house.....in the middle of nowhere....between an elk preserve and a salmon hatchery.

Bwahaha, I'm actually considering a hotel, just to spite my step-father....proving once again that I'll never grow up....once a Goonie, always a Goonie. :p

When you get email from goonies.org, you know you're a dork.

The Goonies was the first PG movie my parents allowed me to see. They had to ship my brother off to an overnight so he wouldn't feel left out. (Because heaven forbid the older sibling have more privileges than the younger.) It was magical. It had Real Movie Stars.
