I Met Mike Huckabee Yesterday!!!
As some of you know I really got excited middle of last week. This was after learning that my hero, Governor Mike Huckabee was coming to town. He was in the nearby suburb of Duluth, GA to be a part of a FairTax rally (if you want to know more just follow the link - I won't talk about it unless asked). Despite working long and hard to try to get Governor Huckabee elected, I had never enjoyed the pleasure of many of my fellow volunteers around the country of meeting him and hearing him speak in person. Finally I thought my time had come! BOY DID IT EVER!! :)
The day yesterday did not start well in this department. My ride was late and I was not sure if I was going to be able to get in through the crowd. Fortunately there were no problems. Eventually I was able to get up to the roped off area to the right of the stage where all the dignitaries were going to come through and waited patiently. Through the same friends who got him to surprise me on my Birthday, he knew I was coming and to make sure he saw me he was told what I was going to be wearing. After running a bit late himself a huge roar went up in the crowd and Mike made a beeline to the stage. I didn't see it but was told the altered his direction a wee bit and hot footed it to me. My moment had arrived! ![]() A handshake immediately became a bear hug and Mike said that it was great that I was able to make it out to see him. He thanked me again for all my hard work. He told me he appreciated and cared for me even though I am a fan of the Georgia Bullldogs. After letting him shake a few more hands I motioned back to him and I told him "Just for you Governor, Whooo Pig Sooee!" He gave me two thumbs up. After that he turned toward the stage to take his seat. My friend told me later that he'll never forget how caring and sincere his look was towards me as he looked me straight in the eye. My friend had met a lot of politicians and had seen no other politician act that way towards people. Right behind Governor Huckabee was his handler. and he made a beeline towards me next. I had no idea what he was doing. Maybe a security check to make sure I was okay? He took my hand and said "Hello Brian. Please come with me. We're going up on stage. Hold tight to me as we go up the stairs." My friend told me later that his handler was explicitly instructed to find me and make sure I was on stage with the dignitaries. ![]() I felt like a true VIP and when I crossed the stage Governor Huckabee embraced me again and told me "Brian I am so glad you're here!" I stood for a little while on stage and something hit me. I was running on adrenaline. Because I had run late I hadn't eaten anything since 9 AM. I might stand on stage for an hour. Not that I felt I was going to do so but the last thing I wanted to do was to bring attention to anything other than the cause we were all representing on stage by passing out. Fortunately there was an empty chair on the far left side of the stage and I spent the rest of the rally seated with the dignitaries. It was an incredible day and one I won't ever forget! I am so glad I got to meet Governor Huckabee. I will be out of town for Thanksgiving on the weekend he comes through again on his book tour (I can't wait to get my copy this week to read the Political Cinderella Story I was a part of). While I have reached the top of the mountain I have a feeling that this will only be the tip of the iceberg. I made a lot of contacts yesterday who were impressed with what I did. It truly was amazing. Merry Christmas! My present came early!! Anything I get a month from now is only gravy!! :D |
Awesome, Brian! You totally earned it. :snap: It's wonderful that the man himself and his supporters appreciate you so well.
|
Congrats! What an awesome memory to cherish.
|
That's a wonderful story and I'm very happy for you. :)
|
Wow....great for you Brian! Dreams really do come true!
|
Sorry, bad timing for me. I accidentally caught Hucabee's Fox News show yesterday (I had no idea he had stooped to such a thing), and I'm completely disgusted with him.
Don't mean to rain on your parade, but your taste in heros is so unbelievably questionable. |
Totally cool for you Brian! What a great story.
(And just ignore Steve.) |
Brian, so few people get to meet their personal heros, you're so fortunate and you totally earned it. Congrats on what I am sure is a totally unforgettable experience for you! :snap:
|
It's okay. Steve has a right to say what he just did. I expected to take some heat for that. So please feel free to fire away. I'm a good sport.
For the record the only thing I disagree with Mike is the issue in question. I mean no disrespect but while it really impacts you the issue doesn't impact me at all either way like the economy, foreign policy, health care, etc does. No hero is perfect. |
I'm glad that you finally got to meet Gov Huckabee!
Congrats! :) :) :) |
Wow, BD- too cool! I think this more than makes up for the time you missed seeing Huckabee in person earlier this year, eh?:snap:
|
Totally cool deal
|
BD: I'm very pleased for you, that you got your just reward for your hard work!
(And of course the only way that we can change minds is by being close to those whose minds we need to change, perhaps your involvement with Huckabee and his crew will give you the opportunity to change a few minds along the way. You keep doing what you're doing, and every now and again when the opportunity presents itself, you put in a good word for those who need your advocacy.) |
Keep wishing upon those stars, BD!! :)
|
Morri is absolutely right, BD. I mean, look at Scaeagles- he now has a new appreciation for pork products.;)
Regardless of whether or not one agrees with Mr. Huckabee's stand on certain issues, I think it's awesome that he showed his appreciation for your support in such a fashion. |
:snap: That is beyond cool Brian.........:snap:
|
Oh, yeah, I have to admit ... the whole scenario is way cool, and I'm very happy for you, Brian.
|
Who's Mike Huckabee ?
......:p |
Brian, that's great!
|
Thanks guys! I'm sorry if I talk about mike too much I know I am going against the political grain around here. I try to be as quiet as I can around here but you are all probably sick and tired of me talking about Mike as often as I do. Thanks for humoring me and for not hating me.

What? They're releasing Cheney into the wild??? Run for your lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Brian, don't worry about it. We may not agree with you but that doesn't invalidate your opinion. |
Brian, I'm sorry for my initial response. Don't be shy about expressing your opinions around here, especially if they go against the supposed grain. It would be an awfully dull place otherwise.
I never knew Huckabee had a Fox interview show on the weekends. I was surprised. I pricked up my ears because the subject was Gay Marriage, and the most vile, disgusting things were said. It's a very sore spot with me right now, so mention of your meeting with him triggered a very pained and lousy reaction on my part, which I regret (that's iSm Reget No. 4,662, if you're keeping track). The story of your meeting with your political idol is really rather excellent and I'm so happy for you that it happened. |
Wow, I'm so happy that you had such a wonderful experience! I bet you were on Cloud 9 the whole time. Glad you were able to get some pictures, as well.
|
I'm just catching up on this today. What an awesome experience! :snap:

I just wish we could all find common ground. I've seen things from both sides of this issue that have disturbed me. The swastikas on the signs I have seen posted from the No protests made me want to puke (as someone who would have been persecuted under Hitler because the disabled were treated the same as Gays and the Jews were) and the those Jerks who made the protest over Disneyland make me want to shoot down their plane I just wish people would not fight over something that is just so petty compared to poverty or AIDS, or any other life-or-death issue. I may be a Christian Conservative but I am highly compassionate(but some of you knew that). but now I am just rambling so I probably should stop before I make any less sense and my point is lost. |

Speaking of conservative backbone, it strikes me he's gained back a good chunk of the weight he lost.

Sorry, I can't take the man seriously. He sounded really good right up until the point he was talking about how horrible and unfair segregation was, but oh, marriage is different.
|
And despite my appreciation for the fantastic tale, and my happiness at your happiness, BDBopper ... I really would be happier (though the choice is not mine) if you would find yourself another Hero.
Huckabee appeared on The View yesterday. How a man that spouts such reprehensible opinion can be admired by you is beyond me. Quote:

I repeat. What a great thing for you, BDBopper. And I repeat: Your hero is an aszhole. |
Nonetheless...
Congratulations BD on getting to meet your hero! :snap: (Now if I could just find someone to introduce me to Bono...:D ) |
