2008 Christmas Swanking
Which weekend would you prefer ?
|
I voted 20/21 but the 27/28 might work, too. What are the plans? What's planned?
|
We renewed at SoCal, so we're busy AND blocked. So I voted for pancakes.
|
I voted weekend of the 21st. I like the Park really close to Christmas, But NeVer Go there The WeeK AftER!!!
The only date I'm definitely booked is Saturday, the 13th. So I'm open to any other date before Christmas. Blocked out So-Calers should either pony up the $25 (maybe we could have a fund) ... or at least meet us for Happy Hour and Dinner at DTD!! |
OR.... we could do a Friday night swanking....

BJ has a mere deluxe. Perhaps he's just using me for the merch discounts. ;) |
I have the deluxe too. I really wanted to go on Friday, but it's blocked. So I looked up the prices, thinking it wouldn't be horrible. HA!
|
Sorry, unless we upgrade to SoCal from SoCal Select, we're blocked out on weekends. And even then, we'd only be able to do a Sunday. And even then, we'd have to do it before we fly to Michigan (12/20.)
So, there isn't an option to vote for two, but there's a vague chance we could go the 7th or the 14th. |
The term "herding cats" comes to mind....
|
I like Sundays better, too. And I could do the 14th!
|
Really should have started planning this in June ;)
|
Didn't I have some notion of that somewhere?
I tried to change the poll to allow multiple choice but I couldn't - which means i probably can't be done. Or, maybe I just don't rule. ;) |

But, dagdamnabbit, if I could come down for this, I would! Last year was freakin fun, you know it, you were there and I wore your space mtn glasses to prove it (incredible fun). I could do Jazz Kitchen again, especially because we outnumbered a certain other table in noise, food (I'm ripe for some bread pudding, a spoonful), photos and sheer fun and they knew it (not that we were competing or anything). |
I'll be at the park for dinner already on the 6th. If it's a Sunday, I'll have to leave right after the dinner hour, although I am still planning to go on the 14th because it's closest to birthday button time.
|
^ @ Snowflake:
Yes, that was a blast. I hope this year's is fun, too. And, sigh, I think we should keep the Brad avatars forever ... because I'm already missing him. It might help to make me feel like he's still "here." (Or it might make me cry on a daily basis.) |
Let's see...
6th & 7th: I'll be putting up Christmas decorations and doing the tree. 13th: We have plans. 20th & 21st: I'll be baking my hiney off. 27th & 28th: Christmas recovery time and therapy drinking. That leaves the 14th. |
6th: working Candlelight
7th: in Candlelight 13th: Xmas party (speaking of which, if anyone local hasn't gotten an evite yet, PM me!) |
Why are we trying to change Christmas from the 25th? It has been celebrated on that date, like, forever.
|
I will have to check with NM. Definitely out for the 6th and 7th, but the 13th/14th may work...

SHUT UP YOUR MOUTH!!! Smarty pants.....grumble.... |
As for me since I am a (Not-So) Bitter East Coaster I voted for pancakes.
Yay pancakes! :) |
I voted for 20/21, but Sunday the 14th would be more ideal for us, since we're planning on doing the all-night Yule log tradition* on the 20/21.
(*Get yer minds outta the gutter - a traditional Yule fire must be kept burning all night, from sundown to sunrise. :p) |
Sundays are the only days that I can even go since i work on Fri and Sat and never know my schedule. We're open any Sunday in December.
|
13 14th is definitely do-able. Possibly 20, 21. We are both Deluxe now, so not sure what the blackouts are.
|
We may have a SoCal but even if we had a Premium we are already mega-blocked by family commitments. December = 4 birthdays, Hanukkah and Christmas Day, and oh yeah we're spending a day at the park with family too.
See you at NYE. |
Yeah it's hard to find the time to be available. Luckily only family commitment is on Xmas Day for me. If i have Xmas Eve off i'm tempted to take the girls and head to the park before going to my parents lol... Like i previously posted if it is on a Sunday we're in if it is a Fri or Sat i'm out for sure because of work schedule.
|
I voted for pancakes!! I live too far, maybe next year.
Happy Holidays everyone!! |
Seems to me from the scan of replies that the 14th is the primo date.

I will not be in California on any of those dates.
So, the next logical step would be to have the 2008 Christmas Swanking in Honolulu. :D |
So Brad now do you know how I feel missing all these wonderful swankings because your miles and miles away?
Awww ((((hugs)))) :) As for me this Christmas and New Year's I will be toasting the fact that my day in the magical "Warm California Sun" is finally coming in 2009! I know I can't hardly wait and know at least some of you can't wait either. wow Teresa what a cool tradition. I've always read and heard about the Yule Log but I've never done it before or seen one burned before. I need to come and spend the holidays with you one year. LOL Oh and did I say YAY PANCAKES!!! ;) |

|
Brad maybe next year a Hawaiian Xmas. I've always wanted to go to Hawaii for the holidays...lol hmm i could start a new tradition of a yule log at my parents.
|
If it's on the 14th we'll be at the park, but unable to hang. We'll be there with my sister and brother in law trying to get as much done in a day as possible.
Though I won't be above using you all to save them fireworks viewing spots. |
Think this year is almost impossible unless it's on a Sunday for us. I mean we're free the whole month of Dec other than Xmas but it's my work schedule keeping us from attending any other day. Stinks i know.
CP well try to have fun regardless it's family. I'm probablly gonna go to the park more this next month than before and then i'll probablly be all Disney'd out by January. |
Let's call it for the 14th then.
GD and CP, couldn't our group and your group meet up for one big, predetermined ride and for fireworks? Even if not, it seems the 14th works best for most folks, and it's tied in the polls. I'm switching my vote to the 14th, so it's now in the lead!! |

And I am pretty sure nobody voted for the 6/7 dates because everybody will be at AdultCon. (NSFW link BTW) |
I'll be in Vegas on the 14th. I'm sure something will be spinning and shiny. E and I will raise a toast to you all. Have a great time!!!!!!!
|
ok, ok, sheesh. I wasn't suggesting scheduling anything around anyone else. No worries. Cell phones and being in the same theme park at the same time could make meeting up for one ride pretty easy. Perhaps your family would like to ride Space Mountain with Rainbow Glasses TM.
The invitation remains open, and is without any sort of obligation. Perhaps we could indeed meet up for fireworks, perhaps our groups would cross paths at some point and wish each other a Merry Christmas. I wish you guys nothing but a fun and fullfilling day at Disneyland with your family. If we see each other for one thing or another - BONUS. That's all. |

Coolsville.
Who could take offense at Disneyland at Christmastime anyway!?!? |

We'll probably be doing Pru's Birthday Deathmarch that day. We'd love to hang with the swankers for part of it. Especially the sploody things go boom part. And a few rides. Maybe dinner, depending on whether a certain someone makes any plans for me. Let us know what fastpasses to grab early in the day. (Space Mountain?)
|
Yes.

14th works for me!
|
Will be down the 6th and 7th. Sad cheese. :(
|
Have you guys decided on a set date yet?
|
The 14th, please.
Thank you. |
From the looks of our calendar, the 14th would absolutely be the best for us now. (So, ignore our other vote in the poll.)
|
I will almost assuredly be working, but at least I'll be @ the park, hehe.
|
Bumping this up to remind folks
|
the 14th is the best so far for CM and I.
|
Good because I'm pretty sure that's the resolved date :)
|
Would the organizer please post details.

So looks like we're going to IHOP

12:30 - Margaritaville
5pm ESPNZone |
Umm there is no Margaritaville in Downtown Disney lol Universal CityWalk Orlando and in Vegas lol...the one in Vegas is my watering hole when there...lol
|
It's gonna rain, so Christmas is canceled this year.
:( :( :( <-- 3 Wise Sad-Cheese. |
Disneyland kicks ass in the rain.
Latest weather update shows rain LATER on Sunday. |
Why don't we go this Sunday (the 14th), and have pancakes at some point?
|
The reports I'm reading show rain early Saturday, and then on Monday, but not Sunday.
Of course, best case scenario is the reports threaten rain, it's a overcast misty morning, people stay away, and it doesn't rain. |
All I know is I want a f**kin' Baked Potato...
|
I'm working at 3
|
I never stop.
|
Alas, I think we're out on the swanking this year. Way too much to do - and it's our last weekend day before we fly back to Michigan. Where the **** did this year go?
|
Ken and I are out too. We still don't have our place decorated, and I have gifts to bake/make, plus I'm trying to wrap out the final bits of contracted work so I can get paid.
I really just want to kick back the whole week of Christmas to NYE, so I need to get stuff done so I can do that. |
Well, is anybody else going to DL tomorrow?
We'll be there all day, with dinner at Jazz Kitchen being the only thing on the agenda. |
No DL for me on Sundays. I'm at Larchmont Farmer's Market, selling the cheese to the people.
|
We're planning to go tomorrow. We have lunch reservations at the Blue Bayou and I'll be sporting my birthday button. Yay! We also have some shopping to do. We'd still like to meet up with folks if they're going, or we'll just go it alone.
|
I can't go. :(
|
We're leaving for the park in a couple minutes. Dunno if there are any plans to meet up. Someone will have to call me or something. Or not.
|
I'm obviously not up in time for pre-work park hopping, but hopefully whoever's there will come by and say hi. I understand it's expected to get cold and rainy tonight.
|
It sounds like rain is forecast for after midnight so I'm thinking of getting to the park late this afternoon. And if I do that it will start raining at 6:00.
|
one of the best times I've ever had was in the park during a downpour
:) |
We're going to head to the park later for some Christmas Cheer.

Sorry we never managed to meet up with anyone. We were on the go all day, and when we couldn't find folks at the usual fireworks spot, we just inserted ourselves into the crowd where we could and made due. With my diminutive sister, we probably wouldn't have done well at the spot you guys were at anyway, so we stuck to the corner we found by the rope. We did spot Bornieo as we made our way down Main Street for the exit after 'works. But we'd been at the park since opening and were d-o-n-e. But other than that little snafu, we had an AMAZING day. We were there at opening, and left just after fireworks. We had almost everything important done at Disneyland by 2:00 and were able get to DCA for the things they hadn't done there, plus a bit more. My brother-in-law's count was 23 attractions total for the day. That's a major success. We of course missed things here and there. And CP and I dropped the ball regarding Small World. We headed for the subs first thing in the morning, forgetting that Small World Holiday is the most absurd line in the park. But no biggie. More importantly, it was just awesome to spend the day with my sister. We were both raised on that place, and you can bet that if she lived down here, she'd be as big a dork about it as I am. She hadn't been in at least 5 years, possibly more. And the last time we went to Disneyland together may have been 17 years ago (we took them to the DCA AP preview, but that ain't Disneyland). So it was just so great to share it once again. I hope the LoT meet had it's own magic too. :) |
I always forget what it's like to show up at opening. We hit ride after ride after ride. Using fastpass well helped too. We didn't wait in a sizable line until we hit TSMM and that was after lunch. Yay, Disneyland day. :)
|
We were snubbed.
|
S-N-U-B-B-E-D!
|
Ahem, who lied to whom about where they'd be for fireworks?
|
Whee! Got birthday wishes from both Mrs. Claus and the Mr. during the evening parade, which made me unreasonably giddy. Didn't do many attractions, but we polished off some Christmas shopping, got our loaf of bread, and had a yummy lunch at Blue Bayou. A pretty successful day, all in all, but boy is my ass dragging this morning.

Rained on me when I did the girl trip last December, it was in the middle of a downpour that we were accosted by the Dream Team. It was a fun visit, marred only by the sadness of the BE farewell party. Then I got back to the hotel to find my buddies in the bar with about 150 people from a construction company that was flown to Anaheim for their Xmas party and they all had to dress up as 80's rockers. Noisy, but fun and the free martini was good.
|
Chris went on a little adventure by himself last night. He decided he would hop the chain and take a trip through Pixie Hovel. We titled the event "Pervert in Pixiland". Soon after, the pixies started spitting at us (or it started raining - you decide) which led to the creation of new tongue twister:
Itsy Bitsy Asphyxiated Pixie Spittle 3 times fast: Itsy Bitsy Asphyxiated Pixie Spittle Itsy Bitsy Asphyxiated Pixie Spittle Itsy Bitsy Asphyxiated Pixie Spittle Now, do it without spitting. ;) |
My favorite moment of the day was yelling "EAT THE BABY!" from the Mark Twain.

Great fun. Wow you guys rode more than we managed to get on. I think we did 13 rides in all but then waiting up for people as well as taking our time thru out the day. Luckily fireworks went off delayed of course but the rain held off thankfully til later on when we were heading to Small World Holiday. But really enjoyed the company even though i was wanting more rides.
