Game night at Pru's: The Saga Continues...

We were thinking of hosting a particularly informal game afternoon or evening while we still have festive decorations up and looking...festive. This is a pretty dang busy time of year, however, so I'm not sure if there are any calendar spots left available. I've got the day off now on the 26th, so I thought I'd check and see if anyone was available that afternoon or evening for some Boxing Day festivities. Anyone?

LSPoorEeyorick 12-18-2008 06:35 PM

Alas, we love the Pru Game Nights, but we will be out of town for the rest of the month, save the 30th and 31st. We'll be sure to attend the next one, though!

madmonkeygirl 12-18-2008 06:46 PM

Doubt i can make it since i am usually working Fridays. Even if i had the day off i'm going to spend it in bed mostly.

blueerica 12-18-2008 07:20 PM

I read this and wanted it to say "The Sega Continues"

Wish I could be there! I'll be freezing my ass off in the meanwhile.

Prudence 12-22-2008 03:59 PM

no takers for Friday? If that's the case, we're going to make alternate plans for the day...

katiesue 12-22-2008 04:05 PM

I will make it to one of these, unfortunately I have to work Friday so not this one.

Ghoulish Delight 12-22-2008 04:08 PM

We'll be continuing our marathon of Hannukah parties.

SzczerbiakManiac 12-22-2008 04:58 PM

I'm in for Friday

Not Afraid 12-22-2008 06:27 PM

Talk to us after NYE.

madmonkeygirl 12-23-2008 06:28 PM

I have Friday off and Matt does too (start of his vacation) but i think we're either running errands or chilling that day or something. Not sure since i am sicker than sick at the moment.

BarTopDancer 12-23-2008 06:40 PM

Gah! One of these game nights I will make. I swear. This one is not to be.

Morrigoon 12-23-2008 11:39 PM

I may be able to make Friday. What time did you have in mind? I have one thing to do in the afternoon, and then I'd be free.

Prudence 12-24-2008 03:24 PM

We're debating Friday v. Saturday, as I want to get to the park sometime this weekend and I have tutoring on Saturday morning. Of course, if Friday is a better day for games, I could see about switching my client to Friday....

Prudence 12-25-2008 11:22 PM

Okay, kids, we're sticking with Friday. 6pm? I have to get up and tutor the next morning, so we won't be going too awfully late. I'm not sure what we're going to do food-wise - I'll likely have a bunch of party mix and some sugar cookies and we'll figure out something from there! Might be toasted cheese sammies and soup or something of that nature.

Morrigoon 12-26-2008 12:21 AM

Cool!

Morrigoon 12-26-2008 04:45 PM

See you there!

Cadaverous Pallor 12-26-2008 05:54 PM

Have fun, guys! Sorry we can't make it this time.

Morrigoon 12-27-2008 01:42 AM

That was fun, thanks!

keith - SuPeR K! 12-27-2008 01:47 PM

I'd love to attend a game night sometime... Maybe you'll have one when I am in town :)

Prudence 01-30-2009 11:29 AM

Game night is on temporary hiatus because of my travel. I'm hoping to host another one the last weekend in February, but that's still up in the air because I don't know yet that I'm not going to be gone that week, too. But, tentatively I'd be looking at Feb 28, Saturday, for the next one.

Prudence 05-25-2009 07:07 PM

Okay - I accept that my apartment will never be clean and so I should stop waiting for that point to announce a game night. My schedule is a little bit up in the air because, to be blunt, we're waiting for my grandmother to die and I'm not sure how soon that will be and how soon the memorial service will be after that time. Assuming I'm still here this up-coming weekend, would anyone be available Friday or Saturday evening? The pre-determined theme for the evening would be: Pie.

Cadaverous Pallor 05-25-2009 07:17 PM

Super busy Friday (late night in LA for concert) then work Saturday so I make no promises for Sat night, I'll probably be a total mess.

Bummer, I am always waiting for the next game night.

So sorry to hear about your grandmother. Things seem tough all over lately. :( I don't want to derail your game thread, but I wish you and your family strength.

Morrigoon 05-25-2009 10:43 PM

I'd be out of commission Saturday due to work, but if you decide on Friday, that would be possible.

And hey, it beats trying to get my place clean for game night!

Not Afraid 05-25-2009 10:49 PM

I'm working all weekend with overnights except Sunday day and I'm quilting that day. It suddenly got very busy with work again.

lashbear 05-25-2009 10:54 PM

Sorry, can't make it this weekend, we're in Forster.

SzczerbiakManiac 05-26-2009 10:39 AM

I could do this Friday, but not Saturday.

Prudence 05-28-2009 08:07 AM

I'm going to try to host it Friday, if it's not too late notice and if anyone can still come. If it's a small group, that's okay; I'll feel less horrible about not having time to clean. Anyone have an issue with onions, eggs, cheese, or various herbs?

wolfy999 05-28-2009 08:26 AM

Fridge kinda empty?

Prudence 05-28-2009 10:48 AM

Uh, no? Those are just the major ingredients for a particular savory pie recipe. It's the vegetarian option, so I was intending to check that it was Safe For Everyone by listing the major potential allergens/system disruptors.

LSPoorEeyorick 05-28-2009 04:45 PM

Wish we could be there, but we're still in Michigan. Count us in for the next one. (I'm hoping that the depression I feel coming on will not make me feel like ALWAYS being a hermit.)

Prudence 05-28-2009 06:55 PM

I almost didn't have this one because I knew you couldn't be there! But, I haven't had one in so long and I'm feeling kind of needy.

Anyhow, for those who can make it - 6ish? Call or PM if you need directions. You're welcome to bring additional games - bonus points if they fit the pie theme. You're welcome to bring additional munchies; I'm providing sweet and savory pie and a selection of beverages.

This time game night comes complete with some wacky co-workers, I hope!

I hope so too, because I do miss you!

Also, your pig made me smile. :)

Sohrshah 05-29-2009 09:30 AM

Lance and I definitely plan to be there, though we may be a bit late as I can't leave Costa Mesa until 5:00ish.

:)

Prudence 07-29-2009 07:02 AM

Game night next Friday, August whateverthatis? Any takers?

Ghoulish Delight 07-29-2009 07:30 AM

Blargh! We'll be out of town. :(

Cadaverous Pallor 07-29-2009 08:32 AM

:( Next time.

wolfy999 07-29-2009 08:53 AM

I have it off....haven't discussed if the family wants to do anything as of yet, but, yes, interested.

SzczerbiakManiac 07-29-2009 08:58 AM

Do you mean this Friday, July 31 or the Friday after that, August 7?

wolfy999 07-29-2009 09:19 AM

I didn't ask about the date since I happen to have both Fridays off with no plans yet, but I am curious.

Ghoulish Delight 07-29-2009 09:35 AM

She said August.

SzczerbiakManiac 07-29-2009 10:10 AM

I know, but due to the manner in which she said "August", I was unclear as to her intentions.

LSPoorEeyorick 07-29-2009 10:49 AM

I think that would be good for me. We'll do our best to make it. Can we bring anything?

Prudence 07-29-2009 05:31 PM

Yes, it is next friday, in the month of August, and not this friday, which is the month of july and on which day I have to work, which means I'll be grumpy. I'm just too lazy to go look at the calendar for the actual date.

I'm not sure what I'm making that night - might be something pesto, since we have a sh!t-ton of basil outside - but finger foods are usually good.

Prudence 08-04-2009 09:11 PM

Okay - the good news is that game night is still on for THIS FRIDAY. The bad news is that work canceled my day off so that I could re-take a training I already took and which is the very basic overview introduction to the work I do EVERY SINGLE DAY because they can't seem to grasp that "we need more training beyond the introductory level" does not mean "we need more training at the introductory level". But I digress.

Anyhow, the point of this is that I need time to slog home and start cooking, so start time is 7ish. (And that means that yes, you are free to come as early as 7 -- 7 doesn't secretly mean 9.) You can come earlier, but you'll have to watch me cook.

Culinary theme this month is summer salads. I'm planning to make three - 1 meat and 2 non. Feel free to bring anything else to snack upon -- veggies, fruit, and chip-like items would be my suggestions.

And now, I must ick-thump.

mousepod 08-05-2009 08:28 AM

We will be there one of these game nights... this weekend is contractor hell for us. Have fun with your re-training!

Not Afraid 08-05-2009 08:57 AM

We're out for this one, but we'll be there in the future.

LSPoorEeyorick 08-05-2009 11:18 AM

Still on. Bringing... something. Dunno what...

wolfy999 08-07-2009 08:48 PM

Didn't get home from lunch/shopping/movies until almost 8PM when Hubby reminded me about Game night.....damn, sorry I missed out, hopefully next time.

Morrigoon 08-08-2009 01:28 AM

Had fun, Pru, thanks!

Prudence 08-08-2009 09:11 AM

I'll be eating moroccan couscous salad for the next 30 years.

Prudence 08-28-2009 07:27 AM

Next Friday? September 4? Anyone up for it? Might make my insanely complicated vegetarian lasagne.

Prudence 08-30-2009 10:14 PM

Hearing no takers for September 4, would September 11 be better? Are people burned out for now?

SzczerbiakManiac 08-30-2009 11:25 PM

Sept. 4th will be my 12th day of work in a row. I have a feeling I'm gonna want to rush home and collapse that night. The 11th looks pretty good.

BarTopDancer 09-01-2009 11:21 AM

Honestly, driving to LA on a Friday night does not sound like fun, regardless of how fun game nights are.

That said, my Saturday's are about to become occupied with hockey games it's unlikely I'll be free for a Saturday game anytime soon - so don't change that on my account. Just sayin' why I'm not coming up on a Friday.

The drive to her place is up the 405. A little slow through the 605 but otherwise not bad at all.

ETA: Tentative yes.

Pru lives on the traffic-less side of LAX. It's an easy drive from 605 onward. (And, may be easy in OC, but I don't know for sure.)

Not Afraid 09-01-2009 11:28 AM

I have no idea what my work schedule will be for 9/11 but I think the games need to be really violent ones.

Humm. Then change me to a tentative. I can't access my calendar at the moment.

Traffic in OC has been a nightmare lately. Took me an hour to go from Sand Canyon to Euclid a few weeks ago.

Ghoulish Delight 09-01-2009 01:20 PM

Don't know what time Pru was thinking of kicking things off, but I'm guessing she's not thinking too early. If you hang out 'till 7 or so, traffic shouldn't be a problem.

LSPoorEeyorick 09-01-2009 02:12 PM

We weren't sure about September 4 (things are crazy at work and Tom now works in Irvine) but we definitely can't swing the 11th - his family's in town. Sorry to miss out.

Prudence 09-02-2009 06:08 AM

I think things are too crazy right now for me to do the 4th - too much to finish application-wise before Labor Day, and I need to get things in the mail that night. So, sadly, the 11th it is.

Agreed. It'd be a great day for Exploding Cow.

Prudence 09-02-2009 11:34 AM

I think there will be themed food. Now I just need to figure out what....

€uroMeinke 09-02-2009 08:23 PM

Jenga!

katiesue 09-02-2009 10:11 PM

I will make it to one of these - but again alas not this one :(

How good are you at flaming foods? Maybe some terrines or other "stacked" food?

Oh there were some great ideas for the party that never was.

Just as well, they were pretty disturbing.

Does that mean I wouldn't be the only flamer there?

Prudence 09-03-2009 03:43 PM

Ooooh! I haven't done flambe since I've had a gas stove! Would pentagonal crepes suzette be in bad taste?

Morrigoon 09-03-2009 05:37 PM

Just FYI I may be picking up a shift tomorrow (need the $), but so far nothing's available. Just FYI that I might not make it.

Seeing as she's moved the date to next Friday I think you should probably not come knocking on her door either way.

Morrigoon 09-03-2009 06:04 PM

Hahah... good point! I definitely won't be able to attend next week, sorry.

Prudence 09-08-2009 07:23 PM

Sorry guys - I have to postpone one more week - does that make 18 September? I just can't get it together this week. I'm still pushing out clerkship applications and that's a time-sensitive sort of thing. I'm not going to be able to be the kind of hostess I enjoy being by this Friday. :( Please don't hate me!

anyhow, I hope some of you will still be able to make it now that it is delayed. Again.

In penance, I will make the most delicious chocolate candies in existence. They're a pain to make, but I will make them for YOU!

Prudence 09-11-2009 04:44 PM

Just a friendly reminder that game night will be NEXT week, 18 September, a celebration of Things That Are Round. Wheee!

Ghoulish Delight 09-11-2009 04:48 PM

Alas, that puts it on a weekend that CP works on Sautrday making a late Friday night an unappealing option for her.

Though that doesn't necessarily preclude my attendance...

Did I mention the most delicious chocolate candy in the universe?

Cadaverous Pallor 09-12-2009 01:45 PM

As long as he brings me back some candy, he can go.

Prudence 09-16-2009 09:21 PM

Friday! For reals! 630 or whenever you can get there until we decide we're tired and kick you out! Pru's place - now with library!

Ghoulish Delight 09-18-2009 03:08 PM

I will be there, smelling faintly of tea. Anything I can bring?

Prudence 09-18-2009 03:17 PM

I never get beer, so if you want beer, bring that. If you want anything in particular to snack on, bring that. We have the usual assortment of oddities.

FYI: I'm running late today. Last minute doc appointment this afternoon. So I might still be frying things when folks arrive.
