Resolutions for '09, looking forward, looking back
Per tradition - here is last year's resolution thread.
I didn't do too well. Not published (not a big goal for me anymore), don't contact family and far flung friends very often, as always. How did you do? What do you resolve for the coming year? I'd like to make sure to keep life interesting....to stay alert and be mindful....yet be able to relax and unplug in a healthy fashion. |
I achieved every single goal that I posted in that thread, and plan on doing the same this year.
|
I can't decide if I'm hoping Matt did or did not meet his goal for 2008.

I did move to France for 6 months. My resolutions for this year I think I'll keep to myself so that when I fail, no one will know but me.
|
I achieved the only resolution that I made last year (not getting on any Christmas card lists since I almost never get around to reciprocate).
My resolution is to be more assertive. If there are things I want and need I need to do a better job of getting out to grab them. I am very important to the people that admire me and I need to act like I am important to them. No more "Aw shucks" I realize that no one here really knows anything I am talking about but that is my resolution. Oh and I resolve to start looking for airfare to SoCal for September this April and get my butt out your way! :) |

Also, ISM's goal was not met |
I sort of made mine- I paid off several cards and lost a little bit of weight. I'll probably gain it all back tonight.
I resolve to continue with paying off the few debts I still have, and to start exercising more. I really don't eat a lot, so I am going to have to resign myself to the inevitable and just make time to work out. |
Lashbears Resolutions for 2009
My resolutions for 2009 are:

In last years thread I was incredibly vague. I'm gonna get more ballsy this year and go specific.
1. Publish at least four stories this year. Probably at most four stories. I really don't see myself sending out more than four stories. 2. Get credit for every class I enroll in. I've had to drop something every semester and I'd like to be done with school someday. 3. Drop 20 more pounds. The last twenty. I lost thirty this year for a grand total of seventy since having Jade, so I think that's doable. 4. Do yoga regularly. What's regularly? I dunno, I doubt I'll make it to a studio more than twice a month. 5. Go to Tokyo! Barry Egan and I have plans to go in July. 6. Live a more connected life. I tend to be a hermit at times and neglect friendships. 7. Go to Disneyland! It's looking like March. 8. See snow! 9. Be a better mommy. I think I mostly do ok, but there's always room for improvement. I tend to get stressed out disconnect, so I suppose it ties in with 6. 10. Be more organized! I could probably go on, but 10 seems like a good number. As long as I make it out of 2009 alive, I'll be ok. |

Take my kids to the Grand Canyon (my eldest turns 15 tomorrow, has lived in AZ her whole life, and has never seen it).
That's about it. How can one improve upon perfection? :) I had resolved to replace my 4 year old computer, but I accomplished that yesterday, so it isn't technically a new year resolution. I got a beast and I have no idea why it was priced as it was. A quad core pentium 2.3 ghz, 7GB RAM, 500 GB hard drive. As usual with tech, can't believe I lived without it. Only $674.99 (only the tower....did purchase a 22 inch monitor as well). |
I don't make resolutions on New Year's, but there are things I'd like to improve.
I'd like to spend more time with friends. I'd like to finish school; this should be my last semester. I want to organize my house better and get it all cleaned and look like normal people live here instead of packrats. I want to bicycle more. I want a steady job with benefits. I love my job, but the hours and bennies aren't there. I want to lose some weight. About 20 pounds. These are long-standing goals, restarted whenever I fall off. |

to complete the RV project and self publish through blurb.com (thanks Mousepod) - projected to hit the street in August  to spend more time with good friends to keep the good streak of reasonable good health for another year to really start some DIY like painting the apartment and getting new blinds to enjoy some to always have a project going to expand my horizons (begun, new blog) and to restart my podcast to have time to relax and enjoy the ride to learn to make Vietnamese food well |
I resolve to buy a new car this year. That's not much of a resolution since my old car is making it necessary and I've just put it off until after the New Year.
I resolve to continue to eat better and exercise more. I made a decent start in the last part of 2008 and now I just have to keep it up. I resolve to continue decluttering and organizing and fixing things up at home. Any steps forward will be considered successful. |
Mine's the same as always.
|
I usually do not make resolutions. Just to eat better and healthier. Great start this year at least. To spend more time with Matt and my family. To keep writing, drawing (just started)and working on scrapbooking. To organize and clean this house to where i'm pleased with it. To live each day to the fullest because we never know when will be our last on this earth.

I usually don't make big start of the year resolutions. I sort of keep an active list of things I should be doing going in my head at all times. But, the general ideas are this: Do something with my "career" or lack there of at the moment. Continue - and expand - my creative streak. It has been really fulfilling doing jewelry, making art and sewing. Take 2 days off each week. Don't over commit my schedule. Continue organizing and simplifying. Explore more. |

I thought of one for this year - finish "landscaping" our back patio.
|
My resolutions or intentions or whatever one wants to call them..
Tell the people I love that I love them often, they can't read my mind. I'm not talking gush fest, just a simple, hey and by the way you're important to me, I love you, thanks for being in my life kind of comments. work more on my old school photo scrapbooks...I love the digi projects but the stacks of prints mock me. host two amazing people for a fun filled weekend this spring visit my happy place at least 4 times in 2009 do at least two 'touristy' things that are so available in my area that I've never taken the time to enjoy in the last 8 years that I've lived in the area. |
I don't think I have resolutions, exactly. There's some stuff I want to keep up - regular swimming and healthy eating (as a by-product I lost 20 pounds this year.) Mostly I seek an increase of zen in my life, and also an increase of creativity. 2008, not ideal, when I looked back upon it. I'd like to return more to the energy and creativity of 2007.
|
NYE I drank a couple of glasses of champagne at midnight and after, then went to bed. I woke up before 8am, chipper and alert - very unusual for me. No champagne last night, and this morning I'm my usual half-asleep grouch.
Maybe I need to resolve to start drinking champagne every night before bed..... |
I resolve to spend more energy and attention on the things that deserve it and less on the things that do not.
|
MS i love scrapbooking. Don't let the pile of pictures intimidate you trust me. I'm working on my 3rd scrapbook as of now (i combined a few Bon Jovi shows into another one to save space on each individual book). It's alot of fun actually and i can pass the time creatively. My Minnesotta trip from 2005 i haven't begun cuz of the intimaidation of the piles of pictures waiting to be scrapbooked...lol
I forgot to add to my list previously posted : To see as many Bon Jovi shows as possible when there is a tour. :) |
I'll continue to work on my interactions with others. There's still so much to learn about the nuances of friendship and teamwork, plus how to balance that with individuality.
I'll continue to work on thinking optimistically on all things, be they short or long term, in my control or not. I'll keep an eye out for the self-flagellation that undermines me and remember that not achieving a goal is punishment enough. And, I RESOLVE to kill the perfectionist living in my head that loves to make everything look like garbage. |
I pretty much held to my "non-resolution" of last year by keeping around only good things (as much that was in my control, anyway).
However, with the chaos that happened, I'm actually making a few goals for this year since this has been the most significant welcomed change ever, despite my feelings of not making resolutions just because it's a new year.
Now, this doesn't mean I won't continue to give of myself to others, because it really is part of who I am, but I'm going to give myself equal treatment. And, because of this, I'll be able to lend a hand more often when true need arises. Thus begins the year of Two Thousand Mine! ;) |

Although, the Sybian is still a bit out of our budget. ;) |
You can get used ones cheap on eBay.
|
Used??? That's just wrong.
|
There used to be a place in San Francisco where you could rent a Sybian. It wasn't a sleezy place; it was run by feminists (not that feminists are incapable of operating a sleezy place - I was just trying to add some perspective).

I don't think this link will work as one needs to log in and accept the T&Cs of viewing the "adult" content. That is the only "current" Sybian auction, but many more have sold there. |
I just said it as a joke but at the same time I was pretty sure I was right.
|
You can get just about anything on ebay.
|
Looking back....
Ha ha, **** you 2008....you're dead! You broke ****, piece o' ****, horrible excuse for a ************* year. Kiss my ***, punk.

As for 2009 - no resolutions, really. Just have more fun. I had plenty o' good times and bad in '08, so I should just try to make '09 even better. I mean, why not? |
I WILL raise a garden this year.
Plant world, you've been warned. |
I'd like to lose the rest of the weight that needs losin', edit my romance novel so it's ready for rejection, find love, and move back to OC.
Not necessarily in that order. |
I'd like to get married
|
Sac, I think you summed up 2008 perfectly. :snap:
|
I'm going to get a sewing machine this year and at least learn how to hem. Then I can make tablecloths and curtains. For a few years I find myself saying, "I could make that if I had a sewing machine and could sew." 2009, look out! It's sewing year!

^wild!

I resolve this year once again to never make New Year's Resolutions.
I believe John Lennon had it right when he said, "Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans." I find it pointless to make resolutions when Life is going to come in and muck it all up for me anyway, so I like to "keep it loose' and "go with the flow". That way I can take action on doing something that needs doing when it's most appropiate. I also find oftentimes that talking about something takes the place of doing it. There's no better way for me to kill an idea than for me to say, "This is what I'm going to do." |
