The Job Thread
YEah, spiffy title, no?
So, alot of LoT is jobless, so how about a place to gather and assist? Couple of Job fairs going on in the area. Feb 3, 2009 - LA Convention Center (Possible swanking) January 30, 2009 - Anaheim Career Fair http://www.nationalcareerfairs.com/c...nuary/30/2009/ January 27 , 2009 - Coasta Mesa Career Fair http://www.nationalcareerfairs.com/c...nuary/27/2009/ January 29 2009 - Woodland Hills Career Fair http://www.nationalcareerfairs.com/c...nuary/28/2009/ |
My group at Nokia is hiring three QA engineers, one IT sysadmin and one Web UI engineer. The office is in Mountain View, CA (SF Bay Area) and remote/home working is encouraged, though occasional office visits would probably be necessary. The IT sysadmin is definitely an onsite position.
PM me if interested. |
Great idea, Borneio!
Andrew: totally wish I was qualified for those, thanks for sharing :) |

Home Depot just announced massive layoffs - they're going to be at a job fair?
|
If those are the top employers in LA, I'm scared for all of you that are out of work too!

Bornieo, why don't you apply at the airline, too? You'd probably like it (flight priv's, even on small airlines, pretty much rock)

Step 2: Hire new people for the least amount you can Step 3: Try not to go out of business and hopefully Step 4: Profit! ;) |
Oh yeah, so as I hinted at above, Virgin America just announced their new route SFO-SNA starting 4/30. They also just posted openings for SNA (Orange County), as they did not previously fly there. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say they will need 6-8 people minimum to run even a small station. And flight privileges really do rule.

Ok, it's not actual employment, but I figure someone here may appreciate the extra cash.
My coworker is interested in paying someone to help her learn web design. Not whizzbang web 2.0 stuff, just basics. The software she has is Coffee Cup. The site is for a non-profit that's mostly for older people so not much is needed for it. If you take the job, you'd visit her house in Orange. I can vouch for her as a smart, awesome person (the only coworker I go to lunch with) who learns tech stuff quickly and easily. I have taught her some tricks in Word, Excel, etc. I have no other details really, so if you're interested, PM me your email address and I'll give it to her so you can figure out together whether you're a good fit. |
LA AFB is hiring in lots of fields - including IT professional, financial, contract, engineering, and program management fields.
Go to USAjobs.gov, search on SMC career fair. If you don't have a graduate degree, you probably want to scroll down to the positions that have "(FCIP Trainee)" after them. Don't worry about the trainee part - if you don't have any federal experience they start you at the bottom, but as a trainee you have promotion potential to GS12 without having to compete, which is a good thing. The salaries posted might not include the locality adjustment -- can't remember. These postings are ONLY open 20-27 MAY, so apply soon if you want to be considered. If you have questions, just PM me or call my cell. (And yes, I complain a lot about my job - but it is specific to my particular placement in my particular field in my particular wing. There are lots of other wings and most everyone else is on the like-to-love spectrum with their job.) (Plus, this is the federal government. We're not going out of business. Period.) |
