Disneyphile 01-08-2009 08:54 PM

Just checked the quake site. Appears to be a 5.0 in San Bernardino.

Morrigoon 01-08-2009 08:54 PM

Well, for once the excitement was "Wow" and not "Oh ****!", so in comparison, I suppose it was fun.

That said.... I think there was just an aftershock....

Ghoulish Delight 01-08-2009 09:06 PM

Didn't feel that one.

CoasterMatt 01-08-2009 09:13 PM

Cue up the Carole King...

Not Afraid 01-08-2009 09:15 PM

I thought it was the cats.

Hmm, the only aftershok the site's showing so far is an itty bitty one 3 minutes after you posted.

€uroMeinke 01-08-2009 09:16 PM

Stan4dSteph 01-08-2009 09:33 PM

Then, that one might have been the neighbors upstairs who seem to like to move furniture around nightly. (No joke.)

Felt it. Things shook. I like it, but immediately worry that something happened to (or fell on) one of the dogs. Got home - everything and everyone is intact.

JWBear 01-08-2009 11:40 PM

I didn't feel it, but Bill did.

Gemini Cricket 01-09-2009 01:06 AM

Didn't feel nuthin'.
:D

wolfy999 01-09-2009 09:13 AM

Missed the whole thing...maybe because I was lying in bed sick.

Well last night must have been quite eventful. Same for me over in my neck of the woods. I had a delicious Cuban Sandwich for dinner. Woke up in the middle of the night with heartburn for the very first time. Since it was my first time it shocked the heck out of me. I thought it was much worse than it actually was. Thank goodness it wasn't.

alphabassettgrrl 01-09-2009 11:06 AM

Staples Center played "I Feel the Earth Move" but I didn't feel it, nor did the lights swing.

I can find quakes interesting or frightening, depending on the shaker and the timing. Awake- cool. Asleep- problem.

What did it register on the richter scale? Did you at least level your neighborhood?

That musta been some belch!

:p

(Yikes though... heartburn is scary the first time around.)

Alex 01-09-2009 11:10 AM

I find them all fun.

But if it was a good Cuban sandwich then it was worth it.

€uroMeinke 01-09-2009 11:33 AM

Put me in the fun camp

JWBear 01-09-2009 11:51 AM

I'm in the fun camp as well. (We native Californios are a weird bunch.)

Happy cows!

Oh it was very scary. Thank goodness Mom was right down the hall and she told me it was heartburn and gave me a Pepcid and I settled in for a night without much more sleep.

And yes, Moonie, the Cuban was worth it...it was great! However I won't be eating another anytime soon.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-09-2009 12:17 PM

I find them simultaneously fun and scary. Growing up I enjoyed them, even after being in LA county for Northridge (that one was scary, of course).

This is where it gets scary. The last big one here sent me home in a panic to check on our bunnies. I think that if you have pets or children to care for, it changes the dynamic.

That is where I would expect to find you. Especially when we aren't talking about earthquakes!

We lived in a two-story condo in Rancho Cucamonga when the Northridge quake hit. Most of the second story hallway was open to the entry way (with a waist-high ledge). While the ground was shaking, one of our cats (Willie) got scared and tried to jump up on that ledge. Because it was a moving target (and it was a little slippery because it was painted and smooth), he was not able to get traction and fell to the tile below. Thankfully he wasn't hurt (we took him to the vet just to be sure), though very shaken up. Forever after that, we called it the "Kitty Suicide Ledge" though we never did see Willie up there again.

Prudence 01-09-2009 05:32 PM

I didn't feel it. :( I'm still waiting to feel like a true Californian! Probably there will be some huge quake while I'm away next week and I'll miss out.

lashbear 01-10-2009 10:44 PM

Nope, didn't feel a thing !!

Morrigoon 01-11-2009 03:27 AM

I've almost always found quakes to be fun. (With the exception of a couple-year period beginning on January 17th, 1994 at 4:31am and ending at some indeterminate time after) So I'm kinda pissed I missed this one.

Sheesh, can you say "The end is near!"?

Yes, I felt it. But if I had been walking I don't think I would have.
