GAH! My TIVO

My TiVO stopped recording half way through Lost. The TV guide listed Lost from 8-11. It recorded 8-10 and then turned off. I checked, my Lost season pass is set to keep all. There is a ton of room left and I was able to manually record.

Any thoughts?

alphabassettgrrl 01-22-2009 12:09 AM

Power blip?

BarTopDancer 01-22-2009 12:14 AM

Nope.

Andrew 01-22-2009 12:28 AM

Were all three hours truly new episodes? Did you have anything else scheduled to record at the same time, especially anything higher on the Season Pass priority list? What setting do you use for the Lost Season Pass: New only, New + Repeats, All with Duplicates?

Stan4dSteph 01-22-2009 07:14 AM

8-9 was the clip show and 9-11 was the premiere. Maybe that's what tripped it up? Sorry for the blip. I believe you should be able to watch it on abc.com today.

Moonliner 01-22-2009 07:32 AM

Not to worry here is what you missed:

On the Island, mysterious things happened.
Off the Island, mysterious things happened and people yelled a lot.

BarTopDancer 01-22-2009 09:46 AM

It was very odd. My TiVO TV guide said it was from 8-11. I figured it would record one chunk. Andrew, LOST is at the top of the list, but it's set to record new. I was watching live, so I got to see it.

I just hope it doesn't happen again when I'm not home.

Ghoulish Delight 01-22-2009 10:17 AM

Strange. Our TiVo is set to record only new. It grabbed the 8-9 one (recap, but technically new I guess since it was a new recap episode), and then recorded 9-11.

Alex 01-22-2009 10:23 AM

I would like to think Moonliner for bringing me back up to speed so that I can further delay watching this on DVD.

BarTopDancer 01-22-2009 10:27 AM

I can't think of anything else so I'm going to hope it was a fluke.

I checked and I have a network connection but I moved my TiVO wireless adapter to another area and it has better service.

thanks for the input!

Andrew 01-22-2009 10:53 AM

I check my DVR's ToDo list once a week or so just to verify everything I think is supposed to record is actually scheduled. Might be a good habit to get into.

BarTopDancer 01-22-2009 09:26 PM

Now it's not recording Bones!

Same settings as Lost. Record new, keep all, keep until I delete.

Ok, I take it back. Bones is from 8-10, and Grey's is from 9-10. Grey's is higher and trumped Bones in the list.

Plainly you need a dual-tuner TiVo.

BarTopDancer 01-22-2009 10:33 PM

Give me a money tree....

katiesue 01-22-2009 10:34 PM

My dvr went completely wonky tonight. It said it was recording but it clearly wasn't. Rebooted twice. Spent almost an hour on hold with customer service. Finally 25 mins after last reboot it just started working. Ugh. Now I have to worry all the time it's not working right.

Ghoulish Delight 01-22-2009 11:41 PM

The wireless connection on our TiVo conked out for 4 days or so while we were out of town. I still don't know why, and it mysteriously fixed itself without me changing anything. It meant that when I set this weekend's playoff games to record from the TiVo site, my TiVo wasn't able to connect and get the command to schedule them. :(

They aren't that much. The HD XL (Dual HD Tuners, THX Certified, 150 HD Hour Capacity) is only $998.99 with Lifetime Service

Yes- but how much for the money tree?

BarTopDancer 01-28-2009 11:30 PM

It only recorded Lost! from 8-9, so I missed the new one. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am open to suggestions (besides a new TIVO, which I cannot afford). The software and schedule is up to date. I am at a loss.

Here is how I had it set:

It's #1 on my list
Record new only
Keep All
Keep until I delete

If I change it to record all with duplicates it only goes to record the repeat (at 8pm).
If I change it to record all, it only goes to record the duplicate.

And it's only Lost! that it is not recording, everything else records just fine.

Gn2Dlnd 01-28-2009 11:37 PM

Isn't there a setting to record a time period and day of the week? Just set it to record every Wednesday at 9 for 1 hour on abc.

BarTopDancer 01-28-2009 11:40 PM

I think I'll reboot and then do that.

Thank you.

Ghoulish Delight 01-29-2009 12:00 AM

Oops, sorry Commadore, didn't realize there were 2 episodes on tonight. Guess we told you the wrong timeslot.

Meanwhile, got distracted and didn't watch tonight's.

BarTopDancer 01-29-2009 12:01 AM

It showed every week recording from 8-9 and skipping the 9-10 episode. No idea why, the Tivo TV guide shows the 8-9 episode as a repeat and repeats weren't selected.

I rebooted and am forcing a manual recording from 9-10. Hope that works.

Out of curiosity, did you look at the To Do List (in the Find Programs menu) to make sure that it was scheduled ahead of time?

It's ok, Joe got an extra half hour of game time before BJ and I claimed the TV. I do enjoy watching pop-up Lost, though.

/ This is Ben. He's creepy. \

I did, it only showed the 8-9 episode. Silly me only looked at the to-do list and not the tv guide before I left the house and thought that was correct.

Another "This shouldn't work but it might" thing would be to delete the season pass and start over all together and then bring it to the top of your list. Not just 'adjust' the settings on the existing season pass.

I think the TiVo is doing a fine job of that!

My DVR didn't pick up the Lost 8-9 recap show when it usually does. When they ad the pop-ups they give it a new code so that DVRs will pick them up. A sneeky way to try to get us to watch repeats and bump up their ratings. But this time I had to manually add it. And it recorded the two hours just fine. (I have the digital DVR from Time Warner).
