LashPair LAPADIGI Update (25 Jan)

Hi all,

The LAPADIGI has been updated to reflect our plans.

Owing to MouseAdventure being on Sunday the 26th April, we are changing the Saturday the 25th to a DLR day so that we can spend time with folks at DLR without having to run around and count bricks.

We realise this is a blockout day for some, but we would love to see as many as can make it on the day.

Cheers,
The LashPair.

If you end up getting the Deluxe passes, Saturday 4/25 will be a blackout date for you as well.

lashbear 01-25-2009 12:20 PM

We've decided to go with the 14 day passes, as the AP's didn't compare financially after all - we save much more going the 14 day route.

Prudence 01-25-2009 01:25 PM

So what's the deal with the Goofy's Kitchen dinner? I can't remember whether I work that Friday or not, but assuming I was able to make it, what's the plan?

wolfy999 01-25-2009 04:12 PM

Borneo's Birthday Dinner...I'm assuming that you need to contact him for time and reservations.

lashbear 01-25-2009 05:15 PM

So far the plans are:

I don't know if (or when) we need to do reservations.. someone with some Goofy experience may need to check that ! :)

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 01-26-2009 12:33 AM

Yep, rez's will be made after a head count. Feel free to say "Hey" here, the other thread or by pm. The limit in past years was 6 or so per rez, so more would require multiple rezzzzzzzz'ezz

Hey....here!

wolfy999 01-26-2009 01:15 AM

Count me in, I've put in for the evening off.

Actually, you can make a ressie for Goofys for up to 12 without a problem if you speak to a lead on the dine line, I know that they accomodate groups as large as 25 but obviously you wouldn't be at the same table, but at least it would group you in the same area of the restaurant!

Nephythys 01-26-2009 10:20 AM

I will be there- come hell or high water- if I have to live on PB&J while there- I will be there!

This trip, we're going to have Lincoln Thumbs from pinching pennies !! But it's worth it to see all of you.

Oh, and Mark, don't forget to count the LashPair for Dinner too.

bacon alert...bacon alert...bacon alert

Let it be known that the first official article of the Lashpair visit has arrived safe and sound. There is, as I type, a case of MRE bacon sitting on my couch.

lashbear 01-30-2009 09:56 PM

Hehehehe Stoat says MRE sounds like "Magnetic Resonance Echogram" :D

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 11:21 AM

I guess I'd better get those Yosemite finances in order, eh?

wendybeth 02-02-2009 11:32 AM

We have to pay for this?;)

We should also start figuring out logistics- such as things to bring (food, drink, extra cooking stuff, etc), or is there a Costco in the vicinity that we can hit after arrival? I am also wondering what time that Monday everyone is planning on showing up- it will take about 17 hours for us to get there, so we'll probably stay in Eugene or thereabouts Sunday night and finish the drive Monday, which will put us there in late afternoon/early evening.

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 11:40 AM

The closest Costco is in Fresno and the closest actual grocery store (Vons and Raleys) are on Oakhurst. I think we need to plan in advance so trips to Oakhurst are few and far between. We could do a Wiki like we did for camping or perhaps just a shared Google document.

How DO we want to do this? Other shared trips we have one "family" or one "team" plan and execute a meal of their choosing. It seems to work, but this is a much larger group.

wendybeth 02-02-2009 11:49 AM

I think that for basics (water, milk, bread, eggs, etc) we could all bring whatever we would normally consume individually, plus a bit extra in case someone forgets something or we get snowed in and we don't want to go into Donner Party mode.:D We could then rough out a meal schedule and have people sign up, maybe in teams due to the large number in our group. The camping wiki was cool, but a Google page would work as well.

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 12:17 PM

OK, let me get the financial part of it worked out then we can move on to the other stuff. Ugh. Finances.

This is quite an undertaking for you all!!! I recall when you've gone to Kings Canyon, you've split up meals. Is that possible here? It may be more difficult with one fridge/freezer.

I am fascinated to see how you handle this. Morbidly fascinated.

I can't remember how many days you will be there, but, buying from Oakhurst, if you are going to be there for a few days, you could freeze some items?

I went by two places on our way out of the Valley but couldn't remember where you guys are staying {I know, look back ya big dummy!}. But, if someone had to make a run to Oakhurst, that might be a bit fun.

*sigh* I would love to be a part of this big production but even if I'm not, I wish you guys an easy trip...filled with lots of fun!

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 12:45 PM

We have 2 full sized kitchens and 2 refrigerators. I'm sure there will be a few coolers available as well. We always seem to make due. Now, sleeping assignments - that may be our biggest challenge.

MouseWife 02-02-2009 12:50 PM

Oh, that's right, you guys have two cabins??? {sorry, I haven't followed too closely}.

You guys do way better than making do~the meals I've heard back about from camping??? Amazing!!

I love to hear what you all do, someday I might be able to use some of your ideas.

If there is a king bed, we can use it. We've stayed at hotels before when there was only a king option and made do, although ToriBear is a blanket hog. Whatever works, but I am not kidding about Eric's snoring- you'll want us in the furthest removed room available. I'll bring earplugs.

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 01:34 PM

Well, I can't come up with a good way to designate sleeping arrangements. There are going to be couples that will be "roughing it". It's the amount of twin beds that will make things interesting. But, this is NOT meant to be a romantic weekend. Any ideas on how to do this fairly would be appreciated. Otherwise, I can handle being hated.

JWBear 02-02-2009 01:47 PM

We could wait until everyone is there, then have a mad scramble to claim rooms. After a few minutes pushing, shoving, punching, hair grabbing, and general mayhem it will be all done!

wendybeth 02-02-2009 01:58 PM

The only reason I mentioned the king is that there are three of us, and it would reduce the number of beds required. We're good with anything- although the bunks might be out simply because Eric is so tall. (6'5"). (I love bunkbeds, though!)

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 02:02 PM

There are 6 bunks total (and a lot of large people).

wendybeth 02-02-2009 02:03 PM

We can always buy an air mattress- no worries.

wendybeth 02-02-2009 02:06 PM

You know, maybe we should just have a lottery. Have someone who is not going assign rooms according to numbers, then have people pick numbers. If anyone then wants to switch, they can bribe others to trade with them.

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 02:25 PM

Oooooh Bribe!

wendybeth 02-02-2009 02:27 PM

I'll bring lots of cool hair prods.:D

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 02:28 PM

I can offer my husband to the bearish guys.

wendybeth 02-02-2009 02:30 PM

I'll make Eric grow a beard. Between that and his snoring, he'll be irresistible!

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 02:34 PM

Bed breakdown:

Little Scenic:
1 BR w/ 2 bunks (twin)
1 BR w/ 2 full beds
1 BR w/ 1 Queen

Scenic Wonders:
1 BR w/Queen
1 BR w/ 2 full beds
1 BR w/ 4 bunks (twin)
1 Den with sofa bed
1 loft with full futon

wendybeth 02-02-2009 02:45 PM

If there are any twin beds with no footboards, we can do those. Eric won't mind having his feet hang out (we had to on our Alaskan cruise), but the bunks really would be out- it would be hilarious (think Will Ferrel in 'Elf'), but Eric would probably opt for the floor at that point. Tori and I can snuggle in a twin- it would be a tight fit, but we could do it.

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 02:46 PM

We don't need to double up in twins.

We could do what we did on our school Port Townsend trip: the boys got one wing of the house, and the girls the other. Of course, there were forays across the Line of Death (and one short sheeting mission that was interrupted), but it was largely successful.;)

wendybeth 02-02-2009 02:51 PM

I think you need to fix those pic links, Lisa.:D

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 02:52 PM

LOL! That would be funny. 7 girls and 9 boys.

Not Afraid 02-02-2009 02:55 PM

fixed

wendybeth 02-02-2009 02:59 PM

I wonder who would be better at pranking? Girls can be evil, but the guys have an unfair advantage with all the Bears. Bears are gifted with the ability to think like both sides, and will be able to anticipate our every move. That said, they might also spy for us if we bribe them properly.

cirquelover 02-02-2009 03:09 PM

I love that you two are offering up your husbands for bribes, Do you really think anyone will want them?

Sorry to the guys, I just had to!

LashStoat 02-03-2009 01:13 AM

Bear…Bear !!!

You’ll be lucky if our American friends let you sleep in the closet.

Oh wait…bad choice of words.

You’d better hope that they take pity on us on account of the fact we will probably only get to Yosemite
(and on that note, should Vegemite be pronounced “Veg-emm-it-ee” ?) once in our lives.

I definitely like Euro’s idea about a key-swapping party. Could I please swap Bear for the key of a Porsche?

Hey Wendybeth…consider packing a sleeping bag for ToriBear. This will solve two problems – the first regarding blanket snatching, and the second has something to do with It’s Small World (as I understand it).

Hey Kevy…you said you had some inflatable things (beds/dolls?) but I think I remember you mentioning a demountable mirror-ceilinged four poster bed…perhaps that could help. In any case, bring the dolls and several rolls of gaffing tape, just in case. We might need to build a raft or something.

Getting excited now…

Love and hugs,

The Stoat XXX.

wendybeth 02-03-2009 01:37 AM

Heh heh...funny you should mention 'Small World', Stoat......

Our guest room is also hosting ToriBear's assortment of porcelain dolls- I briefly considered leaving them up and just calling the room the 'IASW Suite' during your visit, but our mental health system is really broken right now and I didn't want to cause an international incident.

Mousey Girl 02-03-2009 06:28 AM

Yeah, I'm in one of those moods where I want to cook for 16 people several meals in a row. :)

I'm also sort of wondering about lunches. We may just want to bring sandwish fixings and pack a lunch for comsumption in the park or eat in the Valley.

Oh... We must plan on having a big ol' swanky picnic in Yosemite Valley one of the days!

Not Afraid 02-03-2009 01:31 PM

Sandwich. It's spelled SANDWICH!

wendybeth 02-03-2009 01:40 PM

I think a picnic would be great! Maybe we can just split up basic food requirements- get a list going of stuff and then have people pick what they want to bring. Anything left over we can pool money for and do a store run when we get there. We'll also have to remember things like plastic baggies, foil, napkins, etc. I can hit a Costco up here before we leave and pick up non-perishables, but actual foodstuffs will have to wait until we get closer to Yosemite.

wendybeth 02-03-2009 01:42 PM

Oh, and for what it's worth- I come from a large family and am used to cooking for groups- 16 people will be a cakewalk compared to some of our holiday gatherings.

Not Afraid 02-03-2009 01:46 PM

Keep in mind that the closest major grocery store is about an hour away from the cabin. There are a couple of market-type stores about 20 minutes away in Yosemite Valley, but they would be better to rely on for forgotten essentials rather than groceries, as their selection is limited (althoug there's more to be had than what Kings Canyon offers).

Stoat, I put us down for Dinner, 15th April for Titanic Pie.

YAAAAAY. We get to make it on the ACTUAL Anniversary again :snap:

Titanic Pie is a tradition in Stoat's household, whereby the sinking of the Titanic is comemmorated by a Beef & Red Wine pie - it's got mozzarella and tomato in it, and is always a hit whenever it's served, which is usually extra special occasions, if not on April 15 when we can.

for the 2002 trip, we managed to make it in Florida, but we missed out in 2007

Love the pic, Euro !!

I'm quite good in the kitchen (and even better in other rooms) so count me in...even if it's just peeling forty pounds of potatoes. I can also peel bacon cans, open maple syrup bottles and I never burn water.

I'll sit happily on the porch and watch the majestic herds of wildebeests as they roam across the valley floor, content with a bottomless pitcher of cocktail (hmmm...whiskey sour !!), peeler in hand and conversation babbling like the nearby brook, where Kevy will be constructing the raft of love dolls and gaffing tape. We shall christen it with champagne, and also crack a bottle of it on the raft.

We can go on walks - and we might see some bears...or even some animals.

The flowers might be out, so Not Afraid can climb a tree and get us some honey, whilst the rest of the women-folk pick the saffron from thousands of crocuses, and we blokes talk about car engines. We'll then dye our bed sheets yellow and commune with nature, as I know you like the whole Indian thing. Bacon Curry - yum.

Then I'll stop dreaming and clean the dishes...

Love and hugs,

The Stoat XXX.

I'm going to have to re-write my porch-based fantasy to incorporate a verandah instead, damnnit...and I'm thinking the saffron picking scene will be swapped out for women-folk washing our smalls with rocks by the stream, whilst we guys discuss fly-fishing.

This realisation became obvious after the majestic herd of wildebeests trampled the crocuses and left poop everywhere. I did consider issuing disposable surgical gloves, but opted for the laundry scene based on practicality and inevitable necessity.

;)

Snowflake 02-04-2009 04:28 PM

I looked, there is not nearly enough bacon on the menu.

lashbear 02-04-2009 04:57 PM

I haven't made sourdough bread in ages. Hmmmm...

lashbear 02-04-2009 08:03 PM

Easy !
  • Make dough
  • Add Bacon
  • Roll into egg sized balls.
  • Roll Balls between oiled hands (Kevy!! Stop That!!)
  • Drop oiled Balls (Oh, OK... hehehe) into baking dish
  • Bake
  • Take loaf to Picnic
  • Pulls apart easily for picnic enjoyment

JWBear 02-04-2009 11:40 PM

Oh, I know how to make them. I was just wondering if I'll have time to make some before we leave.

lashbear 02-06-2009 07:00 AM

Before we leave ?!?!?! We're going to make them there !!

...nothing as appetite stimulating as a bread loaf straight from the oven !! Especially a Bacon one.

Yes, that would be nice.* We could include Bacon-Wrapped Sausage to meet the lunch requirements.

It would have to be early in the week, because we're not exactly sure when SuPeR K! and I are going to strike camp ... but it's doubtul we'll be down there the whole week.

Can we be added to the Wiki??

* I had told lashbear they don't allow daytime campfires in the Valley (smoke obscures the beautiful views), but I recalled that may be a summertime restriction only.

I'd rather not. That means more shyt to haul up and back, and less time relaxing.

lashbear 02-06-2009 03:56 PM

Ah now see, to me, cooking IS relaxing. Both kitchens will have baking pans, I'm assuming, so all I need to do is bring the ingredients.

I shall make them for general consumption over the 5 days. No need to add it to the wiki

and Steve - you can just go to the wiki and add yourself for the day you choose. I look forward to getting my mouth around one of your wieners.

innerSpaceman 02-06-2009 05:06 PM

Mine's girthier.

dlrp_bopazot 02-12-2009 09:42 PM

have you filled the new Customs card online required by the US Authorities ? Does the new System is supposed to replace the old green card given during the flight ?

lashbear 02-12-2009 09:45 PM

We filled ours in last year - the info I have is that we won't need to do the green form this time round.

Dear dlrp_y,

Thanks for making sure we did this...big hug.

As Bear said, we did it, but it's weird in the sense that after you say you've never blown up anything (like buildings, planes, sneakers and yourself) and promise to be good in the USA, after you click submit...

...there is a 0.00000000001 nanosecond pause and it says "You've been approved".

My point being that there is no-way on God's Earth any existing record could have been checked.

Has anyone got further information on what I perceive to be a "placebo-scare'em-off" thang?

Love and hugs,

The Stoat XXX.
