Illuminations store in Anaheim Downtown Disney to close
Yankee Candle announced it is closing all of the Illuminations stores. They'll probably have some good closeout deals.
|
Sorry to see them go. We used to get some cool halloween candles and accessories from them.
I think there will be more vacancies in Downtown Disney soon. |
More and more tenants just can't afford the rents there. Hope the stores get new tenants soon, or DtD will turn into GardenWalk!
|
I'm amazed they could stay in business this long.
And I've been saying that about Department 56 for years ... only to find it gone when I visited DTD last weekend!! I knew in my heart Illumnations would be next. I mean candles? In 2009? Candle stores went out of shopping malls 7 or 8 years ago. Let's start a death pool for DTD businesses! When will Naples go under? Oh please let Naples go under! |
Saks is closing the whole Libby Lu chain by the end of the month.
|
I had no idea that Yankee Candle owned Illuminations. I HATE the scents at YV but really like Illuminations. Go figure.
I may have to make a trip over there to see if they have any deals on Pomegranate candles. Love that scent. What other businesses are there in DTD? That overpriced clothing store that carries "resort wear"; the Quicksilver stores; the scary baby store; Fossil; Something Silver; Build-a-bear....is there anything else? What a bore it has turned out to be. |
Bummer. I love Illuminations. I hate YC.
I usually get better deals online for Illuminations too. |
Damn. I loved that store.
I also loved Department 56. :( |
I heard by word of mouth that Quicksilver and the Disney couture shop are closing too.

OMG, yes, that waaaay overpriced Resort Wear store that I can't believe is still in business. Surprised about Build-a-Whore ... but I guess if they're closing the whole chain, one well-performing store won't make a dent. Speaking of Build-a ... didn't the Build-a-Bear fad wear out four years ago? Why is that place still around? I like Fossil stuff, but can't afford it. That's a far cry from the total MEH I am about stuff in every other DTD store, including WOD. Thank god for the bars!!! |
Thank god. Just walking past that place was an allergy nightmare.

I actually like a lot of the shirts in there and enjoy walking through. But I think I've only made one purchase there over the years and that was on a clearance item. ____________________ Oh, and Susan is going to be bummed about Illuminations closing. |

Thank god for the bras :) |
I'm am completely unsurprised about Illuminations closing, and I had heard about Libby Lu too. Qucksilver is not a surprise either. I am a little surprsed that the Disney couture store may also closing, but with normal disney T-shirts costing in excess of $30, that's couture enough!
I agree with Steve- I don't understand how Build-a-bear is still in business! It's not going to be easy to get new tenants in there... Downtown Disney may soon look like Gardenwalk, indeed! Just remember folks- in time, these stroe closures will open the way for better products down the line! |

the one here in SD always seems to have people in it.
I so dont get that. |

well, the mall where the one here is located (or at least the one Im thinking of) is definitely catering to a high-end, disposable income crowd and their ill mannered rug-rats who must have 3 of everything..so that could surely have something to do with it.

If you had kidlets - you'd understand Build a Bear. They're not super expensive and kids love em. Plus they do parties. We have at least 10 of them or more at our house.

I think our madmonkeygirl keeps Build A Bear in business personally. She loves that place!

Kids of all ages LOVE BaB, on weekend afternoons you almost can't get inside a store. Libby Lu is one I don't get. The ones here are always packed full on the weekends. That's been my experience at DL as well. |

I had always gone to Illuminations, when it first opened. Last srping I went in, looking for a b-day gift. I was shocked that the prices had more than doubled on the jar candles.
|
They need a Leather Shop, an Adult Video shop, More Bars, and The Disney Brothel: Where the Customer always comes first.
|
What DtD needs more than anything is a deli/coffee shop kind of place where the average guest can get a reasonable non-burger, non-fancy meal. Jason's Deli, I'd love to put a Jason's Deli in there. Or at least a return of the Monorail Cafe.
There should be stores that, like DCA (smirk) cater to the crowd that's looking for a little slice of CA. How about a SF-themed store with GG Bridge tchotchkes and Ghirardelli chocolate? (FL's DtD already has a whole G store). |
