Does this R2 unit make my trunk look fat?

Is there a Geek My Ride show on EmptyVee? I'm sure this would qualify.

I know the owner (big surprise there, eh?). :) The sad thing is that it is constantly vandalized.

the sad thing? hate to be 'that guy' but...yeeesh. in my circles, that car is already considered horribly vandalized

It's a Honda Civic Del Sol, it was BORN vandalized.

Hmmm....how to respond. Let's spin the wheel shall we? Joyously...mockingly...irately...slowing down now...pensively...sanguinely...and here it is...offensively! We have a winner.

You go out in public dressed like that and you're just asking to get raped.

BarTopDancer 02-23-2009 05:56 PM

But does it shoot lasers?

I haven't seen or talked to Shawn in ages. I'm glad to see he's been able to restore it after the accident.

Does the R2 unit light up and spin and beep?

Andrew 02-23-2009 08:38 PM

That car was designed and built by my friend Shawn Crosby. It gets looks wherever he goes!

Just read the rest -- two other people here know him too? Amazing.

Just in passing. I don't do conventions anymore, so I've fallen out of that crowd.

I love that Lizzie knows the guy. :)

Many of us helped and still do (due to the vandalizing ninnies).

I am more firmly in the con world than ever, and, while it's different now, it's still occasionally the same thing that made me feel I'd found my "tribe" as it was, oh, 30 years ago.

:)

The best thing about the H-wing is how Shawn brings it to charitable events and the kids go nuts. I'm sure a car like that is easily mocked on the 405 or wherever, but in an environment celebrating the fantastic and magical...well, that's where such a thing has value. It's the reason I'll pop on a costume now and again. I'm an unabashed geek, and I've had stuff yelled at me, and thrown at me, my whole life over it. But I'll never forget standing at the Discovery Science Center in L.A. a year or two ago, wearing an x-wing pilot costume and having the two following experiences:

Girl, 11-ish: Can girls really fly space-ships?
Me: Yes, of course!!
Girl: *beams*

Boy, 12-ish (trying to be a smart-as$): Where's your ship, then?
Me: On the roof
Boy: *looks up quickly*

Mind you, I don't actually need any justification to continue being my geeky self, but experiences like that are pretty darn cool. That's all. I'd wear my flag anyway, just so y'all know.

EDIT: The title of this thread is hilarious. And I have actually NOT thought about Star Wars in months...I'm not very active in the fandom, in case anyone out there was worried. I'm really far more into linguistics, meteorology, and drumming, but those topics don't come up much here. :)
