Kings

Anyone going to watch this? The premise sounds interesting.

Alex 03-15-2009 05:55 PM

I was planning to watch simply because Ian McShane is in it (this is the same reason I watched Death Race). Didn't actually pay any attention to the premise of the show.

Just thought it was a "travails of the political elite" soap opera but I've just now looked it up and am more intrigued.

Here's hoping that NBC has decided that "**********" is acceptable for prime time network television.

Alex 03-15-2009 05:56 PM

Well, that doesn't bode well if it isn't even acceptable for LoT.

Not Afraid 03-15-2009 06:13 PM

Well, I watched the "preview" and don't understand what it is about. That's my relationship with TV these days.

innerSpaceman 03-15-2009 07:27 PM

Ian McShane would be my only reason as well.

If I watched TV.

Cadaverous Pallor 03-15-2009 08:34 PM

The idea of a modern nation with kings with real power did intrigue me, but the commercials I've seen play up the temptations of power angle, and I'm really not interested in that.

I think queens make for far more entertainment value.

Alex 03-15-2009 09:39 PM

Made it 40 minutes in before turning it off. Will try to finish another night and see if I just wasn't in the mood for it.

BarTopDancer 03-15-2009 09:54 PM

Oh. I thought this was a thread about hockey.

/backs away now.

Oh, um the TV show. Ya, interesting premise. Keeping with my "must make it through 1 season before I'll watch it" mantra I'll have to wait and see.

JWBear 03-15-2009 10:08 PM

I made it through the whole two hours. Meh... I might watch to see if it gets better. Then again, I might not.

blueerica 03-16-2009 11:24 AM

Kinda in-between on it. Was a decent first episode, though I'm not sure if it's going to be awesome or suck-tastic as the season wears on.

Strangler Lewis 03-16-2009 12:59 PM

Didn't watch it. For some reason, though, the preview game me the impression that it was the biblical books of Kings set in modern day America. Not so?

Alex 03-16-2009 01:06 PM

It's the Biblical story of David (from 1 Samuel, not Kings, I think) retold in a modern semi-America where kings still exist.

Though now that I think about it this doesn't bode well for the long-term participation of Ian McShane (he's the Saul counterpart) if they cover much ground.

JWBear 03-16-2009 02:59 PM

Nor for his son...

Strangler Lewis 03-16-2009 03:31 PM

Entertaining as Ian McShane is as a hardass, it sounds like gross miscasting, given Saul's ambivalence about the whole project.

That was kind of my thoughts on it.

Alex 03-16-2009 08:19 PM

Went ahead and watched the rest. Somewhat more intrigued since they are apparently keeping God in the story as an active participant.
