Celebrate Not Afraid's Birthday at the Downtown Art Walk
So the day before Not Afraid's Birthday is a Wednesday (April 8 to be exact), which of course is the day when Lucent Dossier play at the Edison. We had such fun when we went last week that we thought, wouldn't this be a grand place to celebrate one's Birthday (at the stroke of midnight and before) - we could reserve a table, celebrate with our friends and bask in the Lucent Love. Of course, it is on a Wednesday night, in downtown LA, and carries a $20 cover charge. Still it sounds like a fun thing to do, and would like to see how many of you might like to join us. Please respond to the poll to let us know so we can arrange for a table to accommodate those who can make it. |
If I can make it home to the valley, or don't have to be at work TOO early the next day; this would be wonderful.
|
Chances are very good we should attend. Susan should be back by then. Looking forward to it.

Not on a Wednesday night. Sorry. :(
|
Why do they get to come? Lucent Dossier never posts here at all.
|
My Mommy won't let me go. (we have to put her on a plane the next morning)
...and we're flying to Spokane the next morning. Wendybeth would be pissed with me if I had a hangover and you should never piss off your stylist ;) But at least I'm in the same country this time !! :D |
I've need a good excuse and kick-in-the-pants to do this ... voila: perfect opportunity!
 It seems the pretty perfect way to celebrate Lisa's birthday, too. So, yeah, I'm in. |
Gack, we SO want to go...but we've realized that this is the first night of Passover. We're currently seeing if we can work around family obligations to attend.
|
I think I should be able to make that work.
|
Gotta save funds for the fuel to Yosemite, otherwise we'd totally be there. :)
|
I can't count on being able to go, but I'm interested.
|
I wish I could go. I mean, after the shenanigans at the last Edison meet who wouldn't want to go?
;) :) |
|
A Bum and and update
We've reserved a table at the Edison for 10 - that sounds like it will meet our needs, so if you want to come and haven't responded to the poll or said something in this thread please let us know. We'll be sending our "guest list" to the Edison a day before, so we can make sure you get in. Our reservation is for 7:30 and the entrance is $20 at the door. If you arrive after 8:00 and the place is crowded, there's a chance you may have to wait before you can get in. If we have your name on the list, you'll have priority at the velvet rope - so please RSVP so you don't spend the evening in the alley. There is a dress code at the Edison which the Edison has asked us to remind our guests - so far I've seen numerous guests not adhering to the code in previous visits, but again - we just want to make sure you get in without delay. We're looking forward to seeing you. |
Yay, of course I'm in.
And of course, I'm crazy. Ok, here goes ... late night Lucent Lisa Edison school night no-no, yes-yes ... drag myself to work, followed by ... Annual Family Seder ... second night in a row of drunken fun. drag myself to work again. Friday night, collapse ... oh, unless I'm still dating this new guy (i hope), in which case this will be last time to see him b4 week+ away ... so, um, date night. Saturday ... choice between (or likely combo of), Gay Activist Coalition mega-meeting -and-Disneyland with Super K! and ?, followed quickly by too-late-night drive to San Francisco (or if sanity prevails, skipping both those things to drive to San Francisco in daylight). followed by Easter Sunday - observe or, better yet, enter the insane Big Wheel Race. Evening perhaps dinner with Snowflake or at the emergency room. followed by a week in Yosemite with the Lashpair and their amazing California entourage. OMG the fun and frolic. followed by a weekend in Cambia with much the same people, but new guest star, ex-boyfriend Isaac who loves architecture and has never experienced San Simeon. followed by return to L.A. and ... um, death. |
Well now.
A little family drama has suddenly freed us up Wednesday night. Yay? |
Well iSm, that sounds like one swell way to go
|
I'm looking forward to it. And to starting my road to death on the anniversary of Lisa's birth.
Cheers! |
Well, the thing is, you HAVE to stay until midnight because I won't be old until then.
My schedule is similar to ISMs: Wednesday hell day at work followed by drunken night of debauchery at the Edison without the benefit of drinking. Thursday, more work hell followed by the DownTown Art Walk where some of my favorite artists are featured in a show at my favorite store (that I may be connected with sometime soon) where the FANTASTIC Korean BBQ truck will be parked outside. Friday - work hell, followed by packing hell, food prep and house cleaning because the next time we see the house will be with HOUSEGUESTS. Saturday - drive to my Brothers making a stop along the way to see my new Great Nephew. Sunday - Easter Brunch with 40 members of my extended in law family Monday - shop for dinner food for 16 people in a store I am not familiar with, leave Thurston with my brother, cry a lot, then find the cabin. Oh, and sometime in there I have to put the house back together whenever our remodel is done. |

He beat me to it - and I looked it up and everything. Whaaaaaa.
|
I was super excited when this was brought up at Griffith Park, but it's just not in the cards for me right now.
Have a great time!!!!!!!!!! |
Turns out I'll be visiting family in the Bay Area that week, so I'm out. But have a great time!
|
Someone email NirvanaMan and EH about the rezzies - remember, they actually DIDN'T KNOW about the Lashpair trip ;)
|
oh, I see I didn't leave room in my schedule for, ya know, packing.
And now that San Francisco is an add-on, I won't even have the luxury of shopping in a store I've been to once or twice in Fresno, but will be approaching Yosemite from the west via roads I've never traveled in my life and have no idea where any civilization lies, much last the last bit of one. Remind me again why I'm doing this? Ah yes, Joie de Vivre!!! |
NM actually is a YES in the poll, and even wrote that he'd likely be in attendance. I received Kevy's Twitter and am also a YES, but the poll seems to be closed so cannot add to the tally.
|
Oops poll now re-opened
|
Since she never posts, I will ask you to consider Susan as a "Yes", even though she has not polled.

Gracias. Mr. Meinke was wise enough to know I would never see this thread and IM'd it to me..... |
Faboo. Just got confirmation that we are a go for Edison goodness! SO looking forward to it.
|
My only issue might be meeting schedules Thursday morning, so will have to play that by ear.

Dear Lashpair,
I have 10 cats and a dog. What is this "hygiene standard" you speak of? Sincerely, Chris, Lisa, Calliope, Sid, Trixie, Buster, Rupert, Jack, Charles, Petra, Aleister, Scoundrel and Thurston. |
Don't forget the fish

I figured you might already know, but I have a +1 who hasn't yet RSVPed. Excited for the night out to celebrate L and experience Lucent for the first time!

Hey, it'll be mine, too. LSP and I can lose our Lucent Cherry together!
|
Sorry I won't be able to make it out to LA that early... I'll definitely be celebrating :na:'s getting older when I see her in Yosemite, though!

Breaking News (and not good news :()
I got a call from the Edison today. It seems that the manager has decided to cancel Lucent indefinitely and "mix things up a bit". However, they don't have anything booked for that night yet, but they said it would probably be music. They said there would be no cover charge and they would offer is a free round of drinks. After thinking about it for a bit, it seemed a bit ridiculous for us (meaning Chris and I) to pay the $250 reservation fee for a great table to see something that no one even knows what it is. I'm a bit disturbed that they are doing this a whopping 5 days before but that's what they are doing. It's a rel drag we won't be seeing LD but I suppose we can still go to the Edison. It's just that the bloom is off - especially for something on a school night. So, at the moment, things are up on the air and maybe we just won't do anything. I did put in a message to LD to find out if they are performing somewhere else. However, it seems that they don't even know about the change yet. It makes me wonder what the real story is. |
:(
|
That sucks!! :(
|
Can we go to Paris for the evening then?
|
Is Gogol Bordello playing that night anywhere?
|
y'all are teasing me!
|
Whaaaaa! :(

Oh, dear. Looks like we may be in trouble. (At least I've got my towel!);) |
OK, I'm rethinking things a bit but nothing definitive.
Here's my thoughts: Thursday, my actual birthday, is the Downtown Art Walk. The Baily Gallery at Pussy and Pooch are having a show with a few of my favorite artists (Walt Hall, Kelly Thompson and Susan Webber). I'm planning on going. Also, the Koji Korean BBQ Truck will be parked in front of the store. In addition, they will be showing the short films of Squeeky McGee who is a cat. Squeeky will also be in attendence. It is going to be a a great art walk and The Hive Gallery show looks promising too (and it's always a good time). So, thoughts? It's a different night - and still a week night but it will be fun. Plus, you can see some wonderful (and affordable) art and meet some of the artists we've been collecting. |
Yeah, a good idea. Sigh, but I'm not available, personally. Passover. Sorry.
Waaaaa, this whole thing makes me sad. Not as sad as Not Afraid. Well, at least, my death-by-fun will start later and hopefully last longer. We're not actually entering the Big Wheel Race either, so I should be injury-free and one less drunkennight/non-sleeper when I get to Yosemite. So there's that. |
There should be a rule that Passover and Easter don't conflict with my BD. ISM, can't you just have some family drama so the whole thing gets canceled? ;)
|
Afew additional details - we're going to move the date and venue, but still shoot for the same time 7:30 at the Baily Gallery on 6th & Main, though we will likely be there earlier (opening starts at 6:00PM).
For more info on the Downtown Art Walk check out this link There is parking available on Main, right across the street north of Pussy & Pooch. see map. It's also Metro close. Hope some of you can still make it |
Seriously, Lucent @ the Edison is no mo!?? This is nonsense. Ugh.
|
Wait a minute. You gotta be f'n with me.
I JUST solidified with my family that we would be attending their second night of Passover, Thursday night. They seemed puzzled that that would be somehow better for us, but agreed that it was ok. This came after a larger family meltdown that freed me up Wednesday night. If the decision to move this shindig to Thursday had been made 2 days ago it would have been no problem at all. Such is life. What a fvcked up rollercoaster this has been. All I wanted to do was experience something on a weeknight, which turned out to be one of the biggest Jewish holidays. Sometimes I think these sorts of things are proof that the vengeful God of my ancestors does exist, and he is pissed at me. Have fun at the art walk. Maybe one day I'll get to do that too. :( |
um, me and CP and GD should host a Guerilla Seder on Wednesday Night
|
I posted as soon as I knew what was NOT going to happen on Wednesday. I had to sleep on it to figure out Thursday. Of course this happens inaddition to Scoundrel, the office construction , being 2 peope at work and talking to Alex every 20 minutes and a day after I'm exhausted because I had nightmares about losing Thurston and, therefore no sleep.
Even I have my coordination limits. |
Well, we can still get together Wednesday night. I don't think we still want to go to the Edison, but we're open to suggestions, or perhaps we can host our own circus. Our house now features a caged wild animal.
|
Sorry, I'm not saying it's your faults, it's apparent these things happened in their own time schemes. I was lamenting general suckitude. As I said, such is life.
If you do decide to do something Wednesday we're totally up for it. If Thursday is better for everyone, that's cool too, we'll see you soon! |

I just hope someday we find out what really happend as this was very sudden and unplanned. |
Yeah, no blame from this quarter either. And I totally understand subbing in Lisa's actual birthday once plans had to change through no fault of anyone's but The Bloody Edison's.
But the timing is a problem for us jews. ;) Once we move our seder, it's kinda set in stone tablets. sorry. |
A caged wild animal?
Anyway sorry to hear about the LD canceling. This explains the mysterious twitters. Unfortunately I have a funeral to go to Thursday night so I cannot attend the artwalk. I would be happy to roll to LB on Wednesday if something ends up still happening then. |
You should have LD come and perform at your house. That's what would happen on the better sitcoms.
|
Hmmmmmm .... we could feed them....
|
I suggested to Chris that he could set up a cash bar and offer LD a percentage of his tips.

Alas, I shall still be out of town. |

Egads... if LD came to your home, I would fly out there INSTANTLY. It would be a Do Not Miss event.

Are you on the phone to them yet, Lisa?

Haha, I missed this the first time around, and I can't stop laughing... |
We're in whichever day, but if it's Thursday, we'll be pretty late - I work on a show that airs Thursdays and I can't push the updates live and QA until after it airs on the east coast (7PM.)
|
Sorry to salt the wounds, but I just uploaded my video of the "Work it Out" piece I took at the Edison last time we were there.
Here's the link. |
Alas, I will be Flashing that evening.
I must check out this Art Walk sometime though. Please let us know of the next such outing! :) |
Soooo, Wednesday night, how does Lebanese in Long Beach sound?

Might be up to checking out Lebanese food too |
I've met some really good Lesbians lately, but not too many Lebanese.
What do they eat? The Lebanese, that is. I already know what the Lesbians eat. |
They eat delicious food.

We have a new place in Bixby that we LOVE. I think it would be easy t get a group in there - especiallly on a Wednesday.
|
Howdy. My plan was to show up at the Edison sometime between 9 and 10, depending on when I was able to leave work. Not sure how late the Art Walk goes or what's the plan for meeting up with latecomer scragglers. If it's not something that stretches into the later hours, I'm not sure I can make it. I'll have to play it by ear and hope to see you on your birthday.

I wish I could make it. :( Alas, no school night outings for me.

I would love to, but unfortunately, Spring Break is breaking me.
|
I wish I could make it too :( Gonna be doing the Passover thing with family.... have fun kids and happy birthday crazy cat lady!!!

Heidi and Tom will be there tonight. I will arrive for the 7:30 gathering, and Heidi will arrive separately, probably a bit late. She might have to meet us at the restaurant.
|
I'm gonna have to scramble to get there in time. I may have to meet at the location.
Going on vacation is a lot of work! |
I'm too busy scrambling for tire chains.
|
This might also be ripe for un-stickying.
|
Jeez.... Get a hobby already!
