17 year-old Vermonster on Marriage Equality

Kudos to this articulate young man for having the cojones to speak up (and "out") at this meeting!

Saw this yesterday. Quite the young man.

But I think VerMONSTER is a poor precident for labeling the gay lad who objects to the term, "That's so gay."

BTW, for those who don't know -- Vermont's Senate overwhelmingly passed same-sex marriage in recent days, and the matter goes to their House, which is also expected to pass it. Then to the governor's desk, who is against the measure ... but there's a good chance he'll "punt" - i.e., not sign nor veto, and the measure would then become law in Vermont - - making the first state to insititute civil unions for gays also the first state to start up gay marriage without being ordered by a court to do so.

Go Vermont!!

You're reading waaaaay too much into that! "Vermonster" merely refers to a citizen of Vermont. I did not make that term up.

After reading thge article, I too was confused why you were calling him a monster; and thought that you must have made a typo.

Vermontite
Vermontian
Vermontonian

If someone from Vermont is called a Vermonster,
and if someone from Oregon is called an Oregonian,
and if someone from Florida is called a Floridian,
and if someone from New York is called a New Yorker,

what do we call someone from Utah?

Spoiler:

A Mormon

:)

Well, a person in a gang is a gangster
A person in the mob is a mobster
So, it would seem that a person in Vermont is a Vermonster

I went to college with a guy from Vermont. He told me the term. Talk to him.

innerSpaceman 03-25-2009 12:27 PM

Sorry, google it.

I knew many people from Vermont (New England is smaller in total than half of California.) They are Vermonters.

Not trusting my memory (which, nowadays, is just that) ... I checked it. It's Vermonters. Which is why I thought "Vermonster" was an editorial by you.

Love the term. But I bet Vermonters are sick of it.

"Vermonsters"... that's so gay, huh Steve?
;)

innerSpaceman 03-25-2009 12:55 PM

I think it's kind of rodential ... as in little varmint monsters.

Or, maybe since they would be New England rodents ... I should say Rhodential.

I just read this piece by John Kerry.

SzczerbiakManiac 03-25-2009 01:14 PM

Again, I did not make up the term. I am merely echoing what I heard from a native. It's a term he used a lot--never with any malice. These conversations happened over 15 years ago, perhaps the colloquialism has changed since then. I don't know, I really don't care. I think it's a cute term. I did not use it as a pejorative. Get over it.
