 Happy Ancient-Pagan-Holiday-Adopted-By-The- Early-Christians! Happy Easter! :D |
|
Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday whatever your beliefs! |
|
I don't care what anyone else says- I believe in the Easter Bunny! (Happy Easter Bunny day, all!) |
|
I successfully warded off Easter here. According to a commercial that just played on the radio it isn't Easter without a ham on the table. I wasn't aware that Jesus had taken such firm measure to exclude Jews and Muslims from the day. He's apparently quite the ball buster. I guess vegan Christians are just collateral damage (besides, they probably smell funny and Jesus probably has a really sensitive sense of smell). |

Happy Easter, Happy Passover, and (Belated) Happy Ostara to everyone! Oh, and Happy Sunday to the more secular bunch. ;) |

Oh, is this why there is cute bunny stuff everywhere right now? Happy birthday, Munchkin. |

re: this thread's title I was under the impression that it was the Roman church, 300 plus years after the early Christians, who co-opted the pagan holidays - and a brilliant PR move it was. I just like the fact that so much fertility imagery has survived. It's all about sex and regeneration and stuff. Woo-hoo! Plus, there's bunnies. |

 Well... "Early" is relative. |
|
Yep - same thing with Christmas. Though I am a practicing Christian, I think it is evident that Jesus was born in the spring, but something else (winter solstice celebrations?) was co-opted as well. |

 Happy BYOBW Day! |

Happy Beautiful Spring Day to you all. Unless it is cold or raining where you are, then I wish you just a Happy Day. |

A fairly decent overview from Wikipedia (yes there are better descriptions, but I am lazy and this was the first thing to come up in my search): Quote:

Ham and tri-tip in the tummy. I'm happy and Thurston is exhausted. Happy Ostracizer everyone! |
|
We had a Honey Baked Ham, Deviled eggs, and German Chocolate Cake. There's a mixed up holiday if I ever saw one! ;) |
