NHL 2009 Playoffs

It's payoff time, and since the Washington Capitols are currently the only sports franchise in the city that doesn't suck, they get a thread about them:

GO CAPS!

Of course we all know where BTD's loyalties lie but are there any other NHL fans out there in LoT land?

Do I have false memories of BTD rooting for the Ducks a few years back or is she a front-runner?

Alex 04-14-2009 07:31 AM

I believe she's a Sharks fan.

BarTopDancer 04-14-2009 09:24 AM

Har har har. Oh the irony of the Ducks playing the Sharks in the first round of the playoffs.

When I made that call the Sharks were on fire and the Ducks didn't even look like they were going to make the playoffs. The Sharks are still on fire, but the pressure they are under after being the division leader and Presidents Trophy winner is immense. And the Ducks did a 180 with their play after the trade deadline. It's going to be an interesting series; especially after the last game against SJ.

GO DUCKS GO!

On the off chance you were serious, I am a huge Ducks fan - have a season seat and everything. No band-wagoning here.

I am so excited that someone else started an NHL thread!

SacTown Chronic 04-14-2009 09:42 AM

Yeah, I thought you were a Ducks fan, BTD. Your post about the Sharks confused me, is all.

That makes sense.

Go Sharks!

Moonliner 04-15-2009 06:51 PM

My cheese is sad. :(

The Caps lost their opener by a goal.

scaeagles 04-15-2009 07:19 PM

I used to be an avid hockey fan, but in the business of life it is something that has fallen by the wayside of the day to day.

I do think hockey players are studs and tremendous athletes.

Morrigoon 04-15-2009 08:30 PM

Hockey players ARE studs. Mmmmrowr!

Strangler Lewis 04-16-2009 07:19 AM

Hockey's a great game to watch.

However . . . it is the only major sport where the participants occasionally get arrested. If we play the "What if they were black?" game, I imagine many would have a different view of its fisticuffian culture, use of terms like "enforcer," slovenly playoff beards and superstitious refusal to touch the Cup.

Moonliner 04-16-2009 05:01 PM

Good Luck Ducks!

Hey that rhymes.

BarTopDancer 04-16-2009 05:44 PM

GO DUCKS GO! I'm meeting some friends to watch the game.

And Go Wings GO (cause I want to beat them in the 2nd round).

SacTown Chronic 04-16-2009 05:52 PM

There's no 2nd round for you.

Moonliner 04-16-2009 06:18 PM

Yea! It looks like the caps get a new goalie for Saturday. We have a yound stud goalie that's been stuck in the minors but since we can expand the roster for the playoffs.....

Be afraid. Be very afraid. If you're the Rangers that is.

Be nice, the Sharks are my "local" team. I grew up following the Flyers but when Northern California got a hockey team, well......

What? The Oakland/California Golden Seals weren't good enough for you?

SacTown Chronic 04-16-2009 07:01 PM

I only root for Northern California hockey teams endorsed by Ralph Barbieri. Also, I've never heard of the Golden Seals. They sound like a lovely group of lads.

SacTown Chronic 04-16-2009 09:01 PM

So they just mentioned on the Comcast telecast that this series is the first playoff meeting of California teams since the Golden Seals lost to the LA Kings in 7 games in 1969. So naturally I turned to Google to learn more of this team I've known about for 2 hours. It seems Charlie O Finley bought the team in 1970 (Oh how awesome Oakland sports in the early '70s must have been!). In 1976 they were sold off and moved to Ohio and became the Cleveland Barons, which were later folded into the Minnesota North Stars. They are now the Dallas Stars.

Oh, those Golden Seals.

belleh5 04-16-2009 09:17 PM

SACTOWN!!!

:snap: :snap: I live 5 minutes away from the Shark Tank!!!!

BarTopDancer 04-16-2009 10:44 PM

WOOHOO! Hiller's first playoff appearance is a shut out in the Shark Tank!

SacTown Chronic 04-17-2009 06:04 AM

That was impressive.

Yeah, so I guess you could say the score was:

Duck, Duck, Goose!

BarTopDancer 04-19-2009 10:20 PM

WOOHOO!!!!!!!

Kevy Baby 04-21-2009 05:09 PM

Vendor just called and I scored two tickets to tonight's Ducks game - Club Access level. I have no idea what that means, but free tickets are almost always good seats.

Will still probably end up spending $50 for parking and food, but what the heck.

Strangler Lewis 04-21-2009 05:41 PM

The Sharks have to get back to playing their brand of hockey.

What got them here in the first place.

Can't let the Ducks set the pace and dictate the outcome.

Gotta score early and take the crowd out of the game.

BarTopDancer 04-21-2009 10:58 PM

While I never expected to sweep the series, my cheese is sad.

Was cheering for San Jose bad form?

Moonliner 04-22-2009 06:19 PM

Yeah! NY just broke the nose of a Cap's player! 2-min power play for us!

I could get to like this game!

Strangler Lewis 04-24-2009 01:04 PM

The Sharks have got to start dancing with the lady what brung 'em.

Kevy Baby 04-27-2009 06:02 PM

Per BTD, I am not allowed to go to any more Ducks games as I am apparently bad luck

Huh. Just to be safe, you should also stay away from the Caps game tomorrow. It's a must win for them.

BRING ON DETROIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strangler Lewis 04-28-2009 06:04 AM

That's why they play the damn game.

Good night, Irene.

The fat lady has sung.

Wait 'til next year.

Sharks suck.

Moonliner 04-28-2009 07:08 AM

As soon as we knock off NY this evening, the Caps will be back on course to ultimately pluck the Ducks for the cup.

Yeah, I know it's way too early to trash talk but I just liked the "pluck the ducks for the cup" phrase... :D

Bitterness? What are you talking about?

The Nat's are undefeated this season.

(Of course I only pay attention to games I actually attend, like last night)

Eh, nice enough guy, most likely. I'm sure my disdain is related more to the hype of Crosby vs. Ovechkin then him personally.

Strangler Lewis 05-05-2009 12:50 PM

I don't think blowhard quite nails Manny Ramirez.

Kevy Baby 05-05-2009 05:03 PM

I like Manny. Not sure why all the flack about him. He has been a great addition to the Dodgers, acting as a great mediator between the veterans and the newer kids.

BarTopDancer 05-06-2009 09:11 AM

Take your baseball talk to the MLB thread :p

Series up 2-1! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!

The winner of this series will probably go all the way.

Don't be to sad Moonie ;)

Moonliner 05-07-2009 07:37 AM

We dropped one to the flightless birds last night on a lucky ricochet goal in overtime.

Hopefully the Cap's offense will make an appearence in the next game.

Still we are ahead 2 games to 1 in this series and heading back to home ice so it's not panic time just yet.

BarTopDancer 05-07-2009 10:23 AM

Let's Go Ducks!!!!!

I'd love nothing more than to go back to Detroit on a win. Unless it was wrapping the series up there.

BarTopDancer 05-08-2009 08:34 AM

Yea! The Caps pull it off in overtime to force game 7 at home.
