Disneyphile 05-01-2009 06:15 PM

4.3 being reported near Thousand Oaks.

innerSpaceman 05-01-2009 06:20 PM

Was that an earthquake just now? At first I thought so, then figured it was just the upstairs neighbors mucking about.

Did the Lashes feel it????? Last Chance! Would have been perfect for California Adventure!

Not Afraid 05-01-2009 06:22 PM

Last chance for a REAL earthquake before the LP leave.

wolfy999 05-01-2009 06:22 PM

Missed that one!

JWBear 05-01-2009 08:17 PM

Missed it hear as well.

Felt it here in Camarillo! Just before the ceremony for Honors graduates starts, the ground made a little bounce. We decided this particular location (under an open roof made of lots of things to fall and surrounded by windows) was not the ideal location to be in an earthquake.

But the rain held off, mostly, and the ground stopped moving, and I got the cord to wear at graduation. Yay me!

I had a feeling something was going to happen after seeing my dog Pretzel bracing himself between the door frame. It is weird how animals can sense these things.

As if they weren't going through enough in Santa Barbara (with the fires), there was just a 4.2 earthquake in Ojai (which is about 30 miles SE of Santa Barbara).

Not very big as earthquakes go (IMO) and may not have been felt in Santa Barbara, but it certainly can't help already frayed nerves.

And speaking of the Santa Barbara fires, my sister lives in Santa Ynez. While the fires are not (yet) near them, she did come home from work (in Carpenteria) early. The San Marco pass (Highway 154) is already closed and the 101 (her only practical alternative) might soon. It would really suck if she got stranded :(

MickeyD's parents are evacuated. They are up by the 101 and the 154.

We never felt the earth move whilst over there, alas.

well, not outside of the bedroom, at any rate.

Which end (the 154 and 101 connect at both ends of the 154)?

Ok, I felt that one!

It was a 4.7 near Hawthorn at 8:39 tonight. And yet we felt it quite strong here in Garden Grove pretty far south.....

Run for the hills! Wait, no, that's a bad idea in L.A. Run away from the hills!
This guy is prediction a 96% chance or so of a 5.1-6.3 quake in the L.A area today or tomorrow. We're all gonna die!!!!!

Betty 06-04-2009 09:26 AM

I'd like to know what he's predicted in the past and how accurate that was.

Did you scroll down a bit? There is a link to a site that sells earthquake "Emergency Survival Kits"

He probably keeps the dates rolling along so that when one finally does hit, he can go back and say he predicted it.

Just for giggles (and to test my theory), I am going to document:
Quote:

San Francisco risk of 2.5-2.8
June 9 ... = ....
June 8 ... = 91%
June 7 ... = 96%
San Francisco risk of 2.5-2.8
June 6 ... = 96%
June 5 ... = 91%
June 4 ... = 86%
Los Angeles risk of 4.0 to 5.3
June 9 ... = 76%
June 8 ... = 81%
June 7 ... = 86%
Los Angeles risk of 5.1 to 6.3
June 6 ... = 91%
June 5 ... = 96%
June 4 ... = 97%
San Diego risk of 2.5-2.8
June 9 ... = ....
June 8 ... = 86%
June 7 ... = 91%
San Diego risk of 2.5-2.8
June 6 ... = 96%
June 5 ... = 91%
June 4 ... = 86%

Ahhh, yeah I suppose that's one option. You could also vist the wayback machine for quakeprediction.com and see that the site has been predicting things like "#4 Day Forecast; 5.8 to 5.9 earthquake in the Los Angeles area. " for years, that quote is from March 14th 2007.

But don't let me rain on your parade, I'm sure your plan will work out also...

RStar 06-04-2009 03:40 PM

I predict the quake will break off California and dump it in the ocean on June 9th......

:D

No, that will only occur when the planets line up again and cause catastrophic issues with gravity. ;)

See, everyone gets this wrong. Everything EAST of the San Andreas will fall into the ATLANTIC Ocean

Of course not, don't be silly. Earth is the only planet. It's about 6,000 years old and the Sun revolves around it.
