LoT Prom (AKA: Sohrshah's 30th Birthday Party!)

With Sohrshah's 30th Birthday approaching rapidly and things getting stablized in our life, we've decided to go ahead with her birthday party/prom!

On June 19th we'll be holding a prom style party, with music, food and drinks, dancing, and so on. So wear your prom style clothing (era of graduation fashion for bonus points) and dance on down for a good time.

We are basically just starting to get the party together, so we don't have a location yet, but we thought it was a good idea to let everyone know when so they could mark it on their calendars.

We could also use all the help we can get at this point, if anyone is willing to lend a hand. We need to find a location that is relatively inexpensive, but big enough for a prom style party. We can use any donations of party related items, food, advice, etc... and of course we can use help setting everything up the day of.

When we have a location and a time, I'll post it in this thread.

Feel free to PM if you'd like.

Thanks and hope to see you all there!

lashbear 05-04-2009 05:21 PM

Will there be Skype access ?

DisneyDaniel 05-04-2009 05:42 PM

What areas, counties or cities are you considering for the party location?

CoasterMatt 05-04-2009 06:03 PM

I wore a hospital gown and IV tubes for my prom.

I believe it will be in the United States

wolfy999 05-04-2009 08:25 PM

I didn't go to any of my proms when I was young....don't think I'll start now. But sounds like it would be fun for the two of you and all the other LoTers!

I knew it was around somewhere. Not my prom, but my friend Nori's prom (she is the one who's house burned down twice):

alphabassettgrrl 05-04-2009 08:47 PM

I'll have to see what I can dig up. I graduated in 1988, which is an era I don't know that I'm capable of recreating.

Maybe I'll wear a tux. That might be fun. :)

Chicks in tuxes are hawt!

Morrigoon 05-04-2009 09:00 PM

Mine wasn't "in" fashion even in my era. Girls had already started wearing those nightgowns masquerading as formalwear that, surprisingly, are still in style today. Saw a prom album my nephew was tagged in on FB, and other than color, the girls appeared to be wearing almost the same gown. Boooooring. Now, the 80's.... those were some freaking prom gowns!

While I am still in posession of the gown below, I'm about 3 sizes too big for it.... alas.

Maybe I'll wear it anyway, unzipped, and pinned to unattractive undergarments :P

alphabassettgrrl 05-04-2009 09:12 PM

I'll have to see if I can find my prom pictures.

Nice dress, Goonie!

Morrigoon 05-04-2009 09:30 PM

Thanks! I brought the dressmaker a couple historical costume books and showed her element I liked from two different dresses and that was the happy result.

Sohrshah 05-04-2009 09:38 PM

Lol! Kevy, You look totally normal, but your date is well... dated to the height of 80s fashion, netted "hat" and all!

I concur, girls in tuxes are HAWT.

BTW, thank you Lance for starting this thread. We've been really having a time of it finding a location. It doesn't have to be fancy- just enough room for some balloons, a punch bowl, pot luck finger foods, crazy music an most especially some fun!

innerSpaceman 05-04-2009 10:16 PM

Goonie, since you were in that photo you would know, and can now tell us ... under that black velvet cape, was Cherney wearing the classic familly black velvet and lace Little Lord Fauntleroy outfit??

Morrigoon 05-04-2009 10:42 PM

ROFL. No, he was wearing a standard tux. I made the cape and talked him into wearing it (damn thing fell apart & had to be safety pinned too >:| )

Why do I feel compelled to pen a romance novel?

DisneyDaniel 05-05-2009 08:20 AM

Awww ... what cute pictures of the Happy Haunts, Kevy, M & C. Thanks for sharing the photos, everyone. :)

I'll be the one to say it...

I hesitated to open this thread as I first read the title as "LoT Porn".

Which led me to believe it was either filled with gratuitous photos of bacon or.............*shudder*

(Date not shown to respect privacy.)

Metallic emerald lame. Gotta love the early 90's!

Even worse - I used to think I was fat.

...Kevy?

*ducks and runs*

Sohrshah 05-05-2009 10:20 AM

LS- what a lovely dress!
D'phile - OMG, you were so not fat, and wow that dress is teh awesome! If I can find my prom pictures, I'll post one. I also thought I was fat, and was wearing a sheathy little black number with a leg slit to there and 4 inch heels.

CD - I love that dress! You look the same!
GD - It's like you, only baby face you with a little trainer beard! :P

alphabassettgrrl 05-05-2009 02:44 PM

I love all the pictures!

CD- I love the dress, too!
LS- Yours, too! Gorgeous!
GD- You do look a lot the same!
DP- You look great!

My first prom dress was pink. Retroactively, that's hilarious. And it had white lace. I'll see if I can find a picture.

Capt Jack 05-05-2009 02:58 PM

these pics make me (kinda) sad I was banned from all my proms

but only kinda.

SzczerbiakManiac 05-05-2009 03:35 PM

For my prom, I wore a black tux with a gold lamé bow tie & cummerbund as an allusion to the gold lamé shorts I wore as Rocky (I played the title character back in those days). Per my request, my date wore a black dress with gold lamé accents to match me.

Yeah, I was gay back then too.

(Though my date was a female friend from work because I wasn't openly mo.)

Kevy Baby 05-05-2009 05:00 PM

Somewhere, I have another prom pic (I went to four) where I was wearing an all-white tux (with tails) and pink accoutrement: cummerbund, bow-tie and "scarf" (it was a cheap-crappy pseudo silk POC). Gotta find one of those pix and scan.

I think Susan has that pic framed and hanging in our hallway (and she isn't in it - I never went to a prom with Susan).

--------

I think everyone has to have a hickey to go to this prom!

Sohrshah 05-05-2009 05:09 PM

Now you'll have your chance Kevy!

Hey... every prom has colors, often voted on and chosen by the same people who are on Yearbook staffs, and often end up being horrendous. since we all write here...

What should the LoT prom colors be?

CoasterMatt 05-05-2009 05:20 PM

black and blue

CoasterMatt 05-05-2009 05:41 PM

Hopefully the prom won't go like this...

Morrigoon 05-05-2009 08:35 PM

So, should I show up with the chocolate fountain?

blueerica 05-05-2009 08:44 PM

Oy, since I can't be there in-person, can I find the dress I would wear?

Because, I really wanna... like... really.

innerSpaceman 05-05-2009 08:59 PM

I never went to my real prom. I'm looking forward to this, but how to find a tux ... circa 1977???

alphabassettgrrl 05-05-2009 09:14 PM

I vote for purple and maybe red. :)

ozron 05-05-2009 10:14 PM

Another from the Class of '77 here. (Yes, we're the generation that made superstars of the BeeGees. Sorry)

Good luck locating that powder blue tux and big ruffly shirt.

And my Grad Night at Disneyland Photo:

Morrigoon 05-05-2009 10:38 PM

€uroMeinke 05-05-2009 10:45 PM

Your Prom photo is a red X, so scanning quickly I took your Grad Nite photo as your prom foto ... and figured there was just something left out of that early experimentalist story you once told.

I wasn't on the west coast at the time, but I'd bet he was going for something like this:

SzczerbiakManiac 05-06-2009 10:28 AM

I gotta hand it to you €uroMeinke, it took balls to wear those pants!

A couple of them, as evidenced.

Haha... funny enough, BJ was also at that prom. Dressed in 17th century clothes, I recall.

Morrigoon 05-06-2009 01:22 PM

He looked awesome! Tell him to post the pic! (Straight out of Dangerous Liasons, lace cuffs and all!)

Prudence 05-06-2009 05:43 PM

Ugh. I don't know where my prom photos are. I was super tiny then and in a 40s-esque number my mom made. Dunno if I can make something appropriate in the time allotted. Might just show up as a 16th century Florentine.

Sohrshah 05-07-2009 08:19 PM

Hey no pressure to show up in exactly what you wore to your prom, or even what they wore that decade! :)

We still don't have a location yet, but I'm working on something- maybe at a private house, which means space may be limited. I will update with more information early next week.

So far the Colors suggessted are black and blue & red and purple. In honor of MattSz., how about black and...GOLD LAME? :P

or maybe blue spandex. Or Metallic emerald green Lame.

Kevy Baby 05-08-2009 10:20 AM

Lamé is lame

(Actually, I don't really have any feelings about lamé, I just want to say "lamé is lame)

Do I have to confine myself to that century? :P

Actually, I have an idea that doesn't completely suck. We'll see if any sewing skills survived the law school hiatus. Mwahahaha!

Good News Promgoers! We have a location!

Lance and I don't have a ton of cash right now, so we needed to find a location which isn't going to cost us. My cousin Molly has graciously opened her home to the festivities, including her indoor/outdoor sound system, entire downstairs and backyard.

So, that said, we're on!

What: Gretchen's "Trienteniera" / PROM!
When: June 19th, 2009 @ 7:00 PM - whenever
Where: My cousin's house***

For the sake of privacy, I am creating an Evite for this event which contains more specific information, what we need, and my cousin's address. For privacy's sake, I don't want to put it out on a semi-public forum. I will add everyone to the evite who's emails I have - so if you'd like to come, PLEASE PM me or Lance and we will add you to the Evite right away.

Also, we want to create a sound track for the evening which includes music you all might remember from your prom- and any other fun suggestions you might have- so.... suggest away!

Morrigoon 05-13-2009 08:51 PM

I beg you: no music from my prom. 1995 SUCKED

CoasterMatt 05-13-2009 09:00 PM

I don't know what music they played at my prom, I was in the hospital.

wolfy999 05-13-2009 09:03 PM

1977.....good music back then, maybe I will finally go to a Prom.

Sohrshah 05-14-2009 12:10 AM

Ok, Evite sent - reminder - if you don't get an evite, it's because I need your email address. PM me with your e-mail and I'll add you to the list!

Lot's Prom colors are: 50s aqua and burgundy! (How random is THAT?!?!?)

Gold lame welcome. ;)

Goonie are you still bringing that chocolate fountain? :P

alphabassettgrrl 05-21-2009 07:56 PM

Aqua, burgundy, and gold lame... Might be fun!

Let me see if I can get the night off work.
