If you're yearning for a nostalgic place to gather and celebrate the old-fashioned way or just to enjoy a fun atmosphere, we invite you to experience the heart and soul of the original Farrell’s with some modern twists.
You will enjoy the Farrell's nostalgic candy store featuring candies of the past, a ragtime player piano, bistro-style menu items like wood stone pizzas, fresh salads, sandwiches and burgers. And of course the Farrell's Ice Cream dishes you all loved as kids like the Pig's Trough, The Zoo, Gibson Girl, Black and White, and Nutty Nutty. We even will offer healthy options such as "no sugar added" and frozen yogurts.

While certainly good news, there's already one open near Magic Mountain

Cool beans but only if they have the ice cream sunday they carry on a stretcher and 4' long red liquorish.

SzczerbiakManiac 05-19-2009 04:22 PM

I can personally verify the one in Santa Clarita does. That's such an intrinsic part of what makes Farrell's Farrell's, I can only assume they're in their right minds and make it so.

Nothing says "useless website" more than a website that doesn't list your product range.

I guess they sell "icecream". No need for me to actually SEE their range other than a couple of tiny incidental pictures, or god forbid, a menu and price-list.

I've been to that one. Sad, pitiful excuse for the Fabulous Fun that used to be Farrell's.

Oh, and Mountasia "Fun Center" is home to the worst miniature golf course in the world.

Hope the new Farrell's is up to the old standards. Seems every few years there's a Farrell's rumor that ends up falling through.

Chernabog 05-19-2009 05:09 PM

I remember once for a birthday party we ordered the "Zoo", which was like 40ish ice cream scoops... and they DROPPED it. Oy.

It was every kid's dream to see them drop a Zoo. And you're kvetching?

It's there, just not well showcased. You have to click on Locations and then the link is by store.

lashbear 05-19-2009 05:47 PM

Thank you !! They need better links from the main page !

...and the menu makes me wanna come back over RIGHT NOW !!

That's the term! I could not remember it.

Do they still have the Pig trough? It's a Sunday served in a trough and you get a ribbon that says "I made a pig of myself at Farrell's" if you eat the whole thing....

Chernabog 05-19-2009 06:34 PM

Man, if you ate a whole pig trough at Farrell's you'd be on the can for a week afterwards.

Cadaverous Pallor 05-19-2009 06:51 PM

Eat the pig
Eat the pig
Ziggy ziggy ziggy ZIG!

*pig noises*

Errr, ummm well yeah I suppose if anyone ever really did that... Not that I can think of anyone that did that. In their youth, on their birthday. Once or twice. And I would argue that it was the licorice rope consumed after the trough, or perhaps the four rock candy sticks that was the real culprit.

Gemini Cricket 05-19-2009 06:54 PM

Randy, how do the little piggies go? That's right 'oink, oink'! Now show me how the piggies eat...

wolfy999 05-19-2009 07:06 PM

Never been to one....would be nice to have one near Disneyland.

Morrigoon 05-19-2009 07:13 PM

I am super excited about this. Thanks for the info, BTD!

Jazzman 05-19-2009 07:44 PM

I'm so jealous. And slightly spiteful, as we're the original home of Farrell's. When do we get ours back!?!

Morrigoon 05-19-2009 07:51 PM

I thought the "ORIGINAL" original is still there?

Gemini Cricket 05-19-2009 07:58 PM

Farrell's used to give me anxiety as a kid. The pounding on that bass drum, the sirens going off without warning. Freaky happy people in straw hats... Gives a kid a heart attack, I tells ya...

The specific menu is kind of a minor point to the whole experience.

Nah. It's been gone a long time. Many fond memories of it...

You were one of those "delicate" children, weren't you.

At our Farrell's, if you finished the Pig Trough, they made you stand up on your chair and had the entire restaurant yell, "soo-EE, soo-EE, PIG PIG PIG," then slapped a blue ribbon on you that said, "I made a pig of myself at Farrell's." I liked Farrell's.

SacTown Chronic 05-20-2009 06:53 AM

I don't think Sacramento is getting another Farrell's. Our last one killed too many people.

Well, then, in the interest of fairness, Visible Bill & Ted Mojo!

BDBopper 05-20-2009 11:03 AM

Wow. Farrell's sounds like it was/is a cool place! Sweet. Congrats to those getting one. Take me please!

BarTopDancer 10-15-2009 12:54 PM

T- [about] 2 weeks until grand opening! (the time line is from their FB page)

Morrigoon 10-16-2009 09:12 PM

Okay kids, a zoo is $50 and serves 10 people... who's in?

Morrigoon 11-02-2009 11:00 AM

Farrell's just tweeted that they open at 11am this Wednesday :)

Ooh! Pick me and you'll only need to find four other people. :D

innerSpaceman 11-02-2009 12:59 PM

oh, ice cream is my downfall, and I'm already eating junk all week post-Halloween and all the unhealthy yummies it brings. Do I dare add Farrells?

It's far away from me, isn't it? (please)

Morrigoon 11-02-2009 01:05 PM

It's in Mission Viejo

innerSpaceman 11-02-2009 02:06 PM

Yay. No temptation. Though maybe if I walked from Anaheim, I could walk-off the ice cream feast.

Gn2Dlnd 11-02-2009 02:47 PM

If they can keep the prices reasonable, Farrell's is the perfect kind of place to take advantage of the recession.

Disneyphile 11-02-2009 05:20 PM

Do they offer "kid scoops" like Baskin & Robbins does? :)

Isn't that kind of like offering "Low-Fat Deep-Fried Butter" ? If you're going to have it, do it rarely and make it really sinful !! :babette:

No, no. I want 'em small, so I can have a couple different flavors. I'm not at all worried about the "sin" of a big sundae, but it will make me (physically) feel crappy, so I'd just rather not push it over that edge, but still enjoy myself. :)

I've learned that if something makes me ill, it's best to not do it. ;)

alphabassettgrrl 11-02-2009 08:30 PM

I'm with DP- I get kids' cones/dishes when I get ice cream.

Maybe they should call them "Gourmet Scoops" instead. ;)

lashbear 11-02-2009 10:16 PM

Seriously, I need to open a gourmet icecream parlour over here, and call those "Degustation Scoops" (as opposed to Disgustation Scoops)

Imagine a gourmet range with tiny little scoops, about 8 to a standard scoop. They could be piled up in a little pyramid in a waffle coupe.

Gourmet Flavours like sea-salt, burnt butter creme brulee, wasabi, avocado & lime, peach with raspberry brittle, Avocaat etc.

I could call it "Chills Downunder"

Disneyphile 11-02-2009 10:43 PM

Lash, please open that place NOW! :snap:

lashbear 11-02-2009 11:58 PM

and... to avoid the seasonal problems of running an ice-cream store in Winter, I'd offer "Hot Icecream".

This would be trays of thick fudge brownie hot out of the oven, out of which I'd scoop little ball scoops and pile them up as before, topped with hot toppings. Fudge flavours would be like: Passionfruit and Galliano, Peppermint Choc, White Choc Marscapone, Almond & Cherry, Cafe Macchiato etc. Not hard to do if you base half the mix with regular chocolate, and half with white chocolate. then add the different flavourings for variety. Toppings would be Drambuie Cream, zabaglione, hot pureed fruits, various Monin syrups, etc.

I could even develop a range of savoury ice-creams, to be served in ThinKrisp Coupes... what do you think? How about Pear with blue cheese and balsamic? or cheddar with cayenne?

Gosh. I might even keep this as a real idea. It's might be crazy enough to work. OK you guys, please note that I hold copyright on this idea. No pinching. :D

Gn2Dlnd 11-03-2009 03:41 AM

Wow!

Do. It.

alphabassettgrrl 11-03-2009 10:04 AM

Now I'm hungry.

Chernabog 11-03-2009 10:24 AM

Mmmmmm ice cream. I started my diet yesterday (need to lose what I gained on vacay and then some) and of course my co-workers decide to get me an ice cream cake for my birthday. Oy.

flippyshark 11-03-2009 10:28 AM

You started a diet on your birthday?

(Happy birthday!)

Snowflake 11-03-2009 10:34 AM

I'm happy that there is no Farrell's near me to tempt me. I have a difficult enough time with temptation as it is. This is one reason why I am thanking God I am nowhere near Lashbear right now. That sounds too too divine and far to sinful. Otherwise, I'd love to come visit the Lashpair!

Chernabog 11-03-2009 10:35 AM

Haha no I started a diet the week after my birthday. I thought the cake and ice cream part was over!!! (and thanks!)

innerSpaceman 11-03-2009 10:42 AM

I noticed in France that people are crazy for ice cream, but it's all served in tiny, little scoops. They're on to something.

Motorboat Cruiser 11-03-2009 10:55 AM

I regularly visited Farrell's when I was a kid. And, in fact, had a favorite menu item, known then as a "clown sundae." It was basically an upside-down ice cream cone, served in a dish with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and a face made of cherries on the ice cream. Loved those damn things.

Of course, that was the first item I looked for on the new menu, and much to my disappointment, it doesn't appear to have been revived. Not that I really needed to eat one, but I was still hoping it would be there.

Still, I'll probably make a visit to the Mission Viejo location one of these days for a nice stroll down memory lane.

Sooo... we can't take you to Farrell's for a belated birthday Zoo?

innerSpaceman 11-03-2009 12:01 PM

Ziggy Piggy Ziggy Piggy ... they should have opened in San Dimas instead of Mission Viejo.

LSPoorEeyorick 11-03-2009 08:30 PM

We keep meaning to have a Scoops tasting party.

I, too, prefer a small dose of ice cream, and I like variety. The idea would be to get a small carton of eight flavors or so, and use one of those melon ballers to give everyone just a taste of each of their wild gourmet flavors. Flavor adventure AND moderation! Beautiful thing.
