Comic-Con 2009
An FYI and heads up for those interested in attending this year, I truly hope you're already set with tix, cuz it is already completely and utterly
SOLD OUT |
As perhaps the largest non-comic geek in the world, I still think one of these would be interesting to attend. It seems to be quite the event. I can see why it sells out.
|
Ah, well. I kept putting off buying tickets because my kid sister is about to have a baby in NY. Turns out the due date is the 9th, so we'll be back. C'est la vie.
|
I'm interested in how comic fans see this. SD Comic Con is the biggest, yes? Is there some backlash among fans that this one has sold out or is too big or anything like that? Seems to still be definitive...

There's always 2010...

Definitely heard that it's way too big. Unpleasantly crowded. And so on. |
What EH1812 said. I've been going since the early 90's and it's grown 4 times it's size. It's only a little comic con now and all hollywood and video games, which is fine, but I miss Comic Con.
FYI Long Beach is going to have a Con in October this year. |
Siggraph will be back in Los Angeles next year. That's the show to attend.
|
All the big and over-crowded panels are about TV shows and movies with celebrity appearances. The problem with "Hollywood taking over Comic-Con" is that the rooms/seats are NOT cleared or emptied out after each panel. So, hundreds/thousands of people literally camp out all night to get the best seats and then they stay and save the same seats all day and night.
Everyone else wastes endless hours standing in the long and slow-moving lines to enter certain panel rooms, but there is no assurance if you will actually enter the room or get a seat in time for a particular panel which you want to see. |

Hayao Miyazaki will be at the con to promote the US version of PONYO
|
I can't wait for Ponyo. Hopefully this time it will be playing somewhere in Oregon. Last time we were lucky enough to be in San Diego, so we were able to catch it there. Zach was the only kid in the theater but he held his own discussing Miyazaki with a lady in line, I was proud!
|
I wasn't too worried about missing it this year, until I heard that they'll be airing the entire new "V" pilot on Saturday. Now, I'm pretty disappointed that we won't be there. In fact, I'm very disappointed.
|
DP, didn't I just see elsewhere you're actually going?
I lucked out and my studio client gave me a vendor pass since I'm headed down to their evening party tomorrow. We're headed to SD tonight! I've never been before. Any advice? (And a stupid question - as a vendor, do I need to stand in line or is there a vendor entrance?) |

What DP said and I would venture to say avoid eating at the con alltogether. Eat before, bring snacks and water, then eat a nice dinner. I've been going since 93 and have yet to be invited to a cool party!! How fun! ;)
I'll be there Friday-Sunday. Feel free to text me, anyone. I've got some floor space in the hotel room if anyone needs it. (For discounted prices. ;) hehe) Here's some stuff I "plan to see". Heather and I will be driving down early Saturday morning for a walk-through of the exhibit hall before heading home. I'll probably be solo on Sunday. Looking forward to it!

Very cool Google page today, any coincidence?
|
No coincidence - if you roll over the special google logos, they'll tell you exactly what they're for. This one says Comic-Con 2009.
Looks like most people will be arrive after we're gone, alas. I'm just working remotely today and schmoozing (ack!) tonight, and doing a walk-through for part of the day tomorrow. Just a taste. : ) |
Yeah, just came here to post about the Google.
I've never been to ComicCon. Tons of friends complain every year about how crappy it is, and gets worse and worse ... but they still have tons of fun and keep going and going. I never will. Once I feel I've missed the boat on something's heyday, I don't have a desire to experience its slow decline. Also ... it almost always fell on Disneyland Birthday. Easy choice for me. But best wishes for fun and fandom for all my pals who are there. Some of whom, bless their hearts, are tweeting with photos on a constant basis. |

Beef Geek!
The Hunks of Comic Con 2009
I think the Wolverine/Deadpool duo is my favorite, but there are some rather enjoyable others. |

Holy crap. I just emailed H to see if we're going for 4 days...
